“What the hell is happening?”

“Is this because of the spell?”

“I knew nothing good was going to come from those magical scripts we found on that wall! Now we’ve gone and gotten ourselves hopelessly in trouble!”

“Why is he still chanting?”

The soldiers began bickering in panicked voices as they stared down the undead horde advancing before them. The glowing red eyes of those ghastly abnormalities seared undeniable, unfaltering, deep, true terror into their hearts.

King Julian stood behind his men, worry etched deep in his features. His gaze fixed on the wizard, who remained rooted in place, voice raised unwaveringly as he recited the magical scripts from his scroll.

The king’s mind churned in confusion—could all of this be the result of the spell the wizard was chanting, or were these undead abnormalities manifesting specifically to prevent him from uncovering the chant’s hidden truth?

THUD! THUD!

The undead horde pressed in even tighter. With each passing minute, a dozen more skeletons assembled relentlessly from the scattered remains beneath their feet, increasing the population of the undead army.

William couldn’t resist softly exhaling a long weary sigh.

He tightened his grip on the ancient sword and braced himself for the fight ahead.

[ Title (Savior) in effect, Attack power increased by 50% ]

[ Skill (Swordmaster Lv2) in effect… ]

The effect of his title and skills activated immediately.

William glanced back at the crew and warned them not to enter the fray under any circumstances.

After ensuring they heard his warning, he gave a curt nod and vanished from their sight, sprinting toward the hundreds-strong undead horde at fully breakneck speed.

His eyes locked on his first opponent—another towering, imposing, massive, skeletal fiend, but this one loomed with the girth of a full-grown gorilla, its bony limbs thicker and its arms far larger than the others.

The towering gorilla-shaped revenant caught sight of him. Its red eyes flared with a murderous bloodlust as it charged forward, fists raised high above its skull, poised to pulverize the hero with sheer, crushing force.

SHRIEK!!

It shrieked an eerie, soulless wail, heralding its incoming assault.

Unfortunately, its movements were far too slow and predictable to even marginally challenge the hero. William’s disappointment surfaced in a low hiss.

He ducked the smash with ease, then swiftly slipped behind the creature before it could regain its footing after the botched strike.

Having slain similar monsters before, William knew the quickest way to fell it was by cleaving off its head.

The blade’s slice rang out as it cut through the tough bone of the gorilla undead—sparks flying in every direction. The severed head hit the ground in a soft thud.

But that wasn’t the end.

The moment the undead’s head struck the earth, its body began to crumble completely apart in pieces at an alarming rate. Soon, a mound of scattered bones lay where it had stood.

[ You’ve slain X1 Undead, EXP +100 ]

SHRIEK! SHRIEK!

Before William could catch his breath from his first kill, five undead ganged up on him.

They towered at twice his height, grimly and easily encircling and cornering him.

Immediately, they unleashed a relentless flurry of brutal, savage attacks—some punching, others kicking, and one swinging wildly to smash his head just like the gorilla-shaped skeleton he had just slain.

“Not this time!”

William muttered as he slipped out from his tight corner.

BANG! BOOM!

The tremendous thunder of multiple blows smashing against stone loudly reverberated through the chamber, followed by enraged, soulless shrieks as the stunned undead realized they’d been outwitted.

William’s fury roared to life as dozens of undead swarmed relentlessly over him like ants around sugar.

Fortunately, William had paused in a secure, elevated spot, allowing him to carefully draw every attack solely onto himself rather than the crew.

This way he didn’t need to hold back or even attempt to constantly seize the undead’s focus to stop them from striking his teammates.

From the crew’s fearful perspective, William appeared gone from sight as the ever-swelling undead horde gathered tightly around him.

They immediately panicked, wondering whether their hero could ever possibly survive such a terrifying ordeal.

Despite their intense, paralyzing fear of the undead, they earnestly proposed directly rushing forward to assist the hero—reasoning that diverting even a handful of skeletons could grant him precious, sufficient breathing room, or so they believed.

But their steadfast captain saw things differently.

“William won’t succumb to these mere feeble fiends, trust me!”

The other crew members glanced nervously at Theobald, yet he remained completely unwavering in his faith in the hero.

“Just watch!”

To prove him right, the echo of William’s sword slicing through undead ranks reverberated across the battlefield. Each strike came with a loud hollow crack of bones scattering and dull thud of severed heads hitting the stone.

They needed no further explanation—the undead were clearly, completely on the losing end, being brutally overwhelmed, dissected, and effortlessly cut down in droves without hesitation by the hero’s swift swordplay.

Reassured of the hero’s safety, their attention immediately returned to the true threat—the wizard and the mysterious, enigmatic magic formation he was conjuring.

Osborne still remained at the heart of the formation, crouched low as his voice boomed through each arcane chant.

The aged wizard seemed unfazed by the chaos unfolding around him, remaining eerily calm, almost oblivious to the fierce battle at his feet.

Theobald hurried to King Julian’s side, voicing his mounting concerns in urgent whispers.

“Shouldn’t we halt him immediately, right now? All this chaos sprang from his spell—if he presses on, who knows what new horror he’ll summon? It’s clearly a trap!”

“It sure is!”

“Wizards always resort to extremes for magic and arcane secrets, sacrificing their own safety just to uncover hidden truth.”

“Please someone, get him to stop!”

The other soldiers seized on their beloved captain’s suggestion, voices tinged with certainty. Clearly, they believed the undead had risen because of Osborne’s spell.

King Julian heard their complaints and suggestions, shaking his head in reluctant refusal.

“He’s come too far to turn back now. What if this spell truly is the key to unlocking that ancient doorway on the far side of Skull Mountain? Are you really suggesting we forsake all our efforts so far, retrace our steps, and brave that narrow, perilous pass instead of seeing this through?”

Early morning had already arrived over the dark island. The sun shone brightly over the evil island, radiating a strong golden glow and heat. The sun easily permeated the small confinement of the room which only comprised of a few wooden chairs, a bed and a tall wooden cupboard where the previous owner of the room kept their wands and attires.Inside a spacious, dimly-lit room at the dark island, the core members of the two groups could be seen standing around a small desk.Melissa and Peterson brought out a more detailed ancient map of the place and described it to William and Theobald who represented their group. Only two members were allowed to attend the meeting thus both of them were sent."The first three floors are very easy to clear, they comprise mostly of mid-level apprentice wizards with barely enough mana in their mana reserve to cast powerful spells. While they are a little bit stronger than the wizards guarding the fences, they are not that much trouble for a well-traine

The crew ended up spending more than half an hour discussing about the plans to infiltrate the dark tower, how to act within it, how to avoid suspicions, path to follow, and where to find certain important people inside the tower. Most of the explanation was done by Peterson, the trustworthy assassin of Melissa's squad. His information and description were clear and vivid—better than reading it from a map.Melissa and a few members of her squad also added to the information available. As they had been around the tower for several days, their understanding of the place was an important lesson to William and the others.During their discussions, they had to halt several times—either when the surveillance light flashed in their direction or when actual members of the cult walked by.They were able to finish their discussion without drawing that much attention to themselves. After they were done discussing, they began preparing to act on the plans they had just finalized."Here."Melissa

William and the crew, now under disguise, were strolling around. From ahead, a group of Gravemind cultist strolled in their direction. They were about fifteen of them in numbers, each of them stood tall with heights above six feets. A few of them had huge muscular builds similar to Theobald's.Their strides were filled with arrogance, something the other cultist William had slayed lacked.William was the first to notice the oddity of the group marching in their direction, and he couldn't help but frown. Why were they so different from the others? he asked himself.William kept his eyes on the small group as they closed in on each other. His eyes was fixed on that of the biggest one in the ground who, coincidentally, also had his eyes locked with his. William could sense weird emotions from his eyes as they jammed; it was something between hatred and disgust. The two groups were just a few meters away from walking past each other. The silence between them stronger than ever, almost as

They walked in separate groups, each of them moving in different directions, ensuring that all the perimeter of the fence was covered at all times.A small group of three cultists could be seen strolling together while discussing amongst themselves, unaware of the arrival of an unstoppable opponent."I heard the great leader would be arriving tonight," one of them brought up a new conversation."Frederico told me about that a few hours ago, I thought he was lying. So you guys heard the same thing?" The one in the middle replied."Frederico wasn't lying, I overheard two of our superiors discussing about his arrival.""I suspect something important would go down in a few days. The great leader never visits the tower unless for a very important event, could it be that the preparing of the grand ritual has been completed and he is here to finalize it?"The

William and the crew could be seen strolling towards the vast water body with silent and cautious step. At the moment, each of them had a long black fabric covering their head. The black fabric served as a camouflage each time the beam of the light rotated in their direction. As the land was plain and filled with dark sand and skeletal remains, covering themselves in black clothings made them more difficult to detect from afar.Thankfully, this barren land had no sort of abnormalities, not even corrupted creatures that usually raided the night. If there were unlucky enough to have faced anyone, their location would be revealed to the cult once and their entire plan would be ruined."Walk faster! We need to be at the island before morning arrives!"Theobald announced to the others while strolling beside the hero. Both of them took long strides forward, their eyes cautiously scanning their surroundings from time to time.King Julian and the others increased their pace and soon caught up

After the peculiar sensation of passing through the portal faded, William found himself standing in a strange, unfamiliar location."Wow!"The scene before him prompted the hero to exclaim in genuine astonishment.Spread before his eyes was a vast, barren land plunged into darkness and gloom. Only the faint crescent light of the full moon hanging in the sky battled the intense blackness. Not far from his current position, William’s gaze fell on a truly vast, large water body that stretched over a long distance, seemingly unending from his perspective. The hero needed no geography expert to tell him this was Dark Island, the sacred landmark and hideout of the most terrifying dark wizard cult in this dark world. The sound of water calmly flowing could be heard clearly, and the waters were almost visible as they softly reflected the moon."What is that?"A surprised voice muttered behind the hero as its owner’s eyes suddenly and instantly fell upon a mysterious, silhouetted structure ris
