Thorn Blackthorn is a hunted man. Once a prince of a fallen empire, he now survives in the dirt, running from the elite sects and divine enforcers who slaughtered his bloodline. But his luck changes when he accidentally awakens the Unmade Primordial, a terrifying relic capable of unmaking the very fabric of reality. With a simple thought, he can dissolve a mountain into ash or rewrite the physical laws of a battlefield. The power comes with a devastating price. Every time Thorn breaks a law of nature, the Primal Fracture widens, threatening to tear the world into broken shards of pure chaos. In a world where the gods demand perfection, Thorn must scheme, manipulate, and destroy his way to the top. He is not looking for friends, and he is not looking for love. He only wants survival, and he will unmake the universe itself to achieve it.

Chapter 1

THE EDGE OF THE KNIFE

His mouth filled with a hot, bitter tang, but Thorn refused to swallow.

He spat a red glob into the sinking mud beneath his boots, his chest heaving as the cold rain plastered his black hair to his forehead. His legs shook from sheer exhaustion. Behind him stood a dead end, a towering wall of jagged rock dripping with filthy water. In front of him stood three men wrapped in pristine white robes that somehow repelled the grime of the ravine.

The lead disciple step forward. His hand rested lightly on the pommel of a glowing silver blade.

"You run fast for a rat with a broken rib," the leader said. His voice carried a smooth, arrogant ring.

Thorn leaned his back against the wet rock wall, gasping for air. "You talk too much for a dog on a leash."

The disciple on the left snorted, adjusting his grip on a slender rapier. "The fallen royal still thinks he has a title. Look at you, Thorn. You are bleeding into the mud like slaughtered livestock."

"Then come finish it," Thorn said. He coughed, a violent spasm that tore through his ribs and brought him to his knees. "Or are you three waiting for your master to hold your hands?"

The third disciple, a younger man with sharp eyes, frowned. "End him, Brother Jian. The divine overseers do not like us lingering near the borderlands. Something feels wrong with the air here."

Jian drew his sword with a slow, metallic scrape that echoed against the ravine walls. The blade hummed with brilliant golden light, the pure energy of the Radiant Sword Sect pulsing along its edge. It was energy granted by the gods, clean, perfect, and absolute.

"Any last words for your dead ancestors?" Jian asked, taking three slow steps forward.

Thorn did not look at Jian's face. He looked at the silver tip of the sword pointing directly at his throat. His heart pounded against the hard, cold mass embedded right beneath his breastbone. It was an ancient, rough stone he had stumbled upon weeks ago, now fused permanently into his skin. It felt like a frozen lump of ice in his chest, completely silent and dead.

"I have no ancestors," Thorn whispered, his eyes narrowing into dark slits. "And I do not plan on joining them today."

Jian laughed, a short, cruel sound. "Defiant to the last breath. How pitiful."

Jian lunged. The golden sword cut through the rain, trailing a beam of holy light that illuminated the dark ravine.

Thorn did not dodge. He could not dodge. His body was completely broken. Instead, he threw his open palm forward, driven by nothing but a primal, ugly instinct to survive. He did not ask for help from the gods. He simply refused to die.

Deep inside his chest, something snapped.

A sudden, pitch-black pulse shot out from the stone beneath his skin. It was not fire. It was not light. It was a absolute void, a ripple in the air that seemed to swallow sound itself.

The pulse hit the golden blade head-on.

The brilliant light on Jian's sword did not just fade. It vanished. The refined, divine steel turned black in an instant, flaking away into dull, useless gray rust right before their eyes.

Jian froze, his smile instantly disappearing. "What... what did you do?"

" Brother Jian, look at your sword!" the young disciple screamed, stepping backward in terror.

The golden energy that usually protected the disciples completely failed them. The black pulse did not stop at the shattered blade. It traveled straight up the metal like a creeping shadow, leaping onto Jian's fingers.

Jian let out a screech that sounded almost like a dying animal. "Get it off me! It burns! It burns!"

"Drop the weapon!" the disciple on the left yelled, reaching out to help.

"Do not touch him!" Thorn rasped, his own voice sounding raw and strange to his ears.

It was too late. The moment the second disciple grabbed Jian's arm to pull him back, the black energy jumped to his hands as well.

The air around them grew ice cold. The natural laws of the world seemed to bend and warp around Thorn’s hand. Flesh did not burn, and bone did not break. Instead, the very matter of their bodies simply dissolved.

Jian watched in horrified silence as his own fingers turned into a fine, gray dust that washed away in the rain. His wrist was next, crumbling like old chalk.

"My hand!" Jian wailed, falling to his knees as his arm dissolved into nothingness. "What kind of evil magic is this? What are you?"

"I am alive," Thorn said, his breathing coming in ragged gasps.

"Kill him! Kill him now!" the third disciple shrieked, drawing his own blade with trembling hands.

"Try it," Thorn grunted, taking one painful step forward through the mud.

The black ripple expanded outward in a jagged wave. It hit the second disciple full in the chest. The man did not even have time to scream. His white robe turned to ash, and his skin dissolved into gray powder, scattering into the wind alongside the falling rain.

The young disciple dropped his weapon into the mud, his face completely drained of color. "You are an abomination. The divine law... you are breaking the divine law!"

"Your divine law let my family burn," Thorn said, staring at the lone surviving disciple with hollow, dead eyes. "Your gods do not care about you."

"Please," the young man sobbed, scrambling backward on his hands and knees, covered in the gray dust of his dead comrades. "Please, spare me. I was only following orders."

"The dead do not accept apologies," Thorn said softly.

He pushed his palm forward one last time. The black pulse surged through the narrow ravine, hitting the young disciple mid-cry. The man’s voice cut off instantly as his body collapsed inward, turning into a cloud of gray dust that settled onto the wet rocks.

Silence returned to the ravine, heavy and suffocating. The three elite fighters of the Radiant Sword Sect were gone, reduced to dirty powder floating on top of puddle water.

Thorn dropped his hand, his body shaking violently. The cold lump in his chest felt heavier now, pulsing with a dark, rhythm that matched his own frantic heart. He looked down at his trembling palm, then at the gray mud around his boots.

He was still breathing. He was still alive."A rat," Thorn muttered to the empty air, wiping a streak of blood from his lip. "A rat that bites back."
