Only Hope

Logan was pissed off at the middle-aged man who was holding onto his brother’s trousers. He wanted to push him aside, but Lucas gestured to him at once to let the man be.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Dexter Buffet, Sir! You have to save my daughter! You are our only hope! Please!”

Lucas remained calm, staring at Dexter whose eyes were almost filled with tears that were ready to drop at any moment.

“What is wrong with your daughter?” Logan asked, seeing how sad the man looked.

“She was badly injured after an accident! Nobody wants her! She has suffered greatly! You have to help me! She is very important to me!” The tears finally left Dexter’s eyes, and he didn’t even bother about the pain in his knees.

Lucas had a nostalgic feeling as he thought about the man’s request.

Three years earlier, Lord Orson Avilla came to him in tears. The old man pleaded that he save his granddaughter Jemima who was suffering from a strange sickness.

All the Doctors in the City had tried and failed, and it was only Lucas who was able to figure out what was wrong with her. He cured her instantly.

“The last time I helped someone, I had a terrible experience afterward. I don’t think I can help you, Mr. Buffet. Go home…”

“No, Sir! I beg you! I can do anything you want! My daughter is very rich! She owns a big company! I am sure she can pay you any amount once she gets better!”

“How dare you insult my brother?!” Logan raged. “Does he look like he needs your money?! Do you know how rich and powerful he is?!”

“No, Sir! I didn’t mean to insult your brother! I am truly sorry!” Dexter bowed instantly, making sure that his head touched the ground.

“My darling Daisy has suffered greatly! She doesn’t deserve this!” Dexter shed more tears, looking entirely helpless at that moment.

Lucas was touched, but he was still very skeptical about helping the man. Even Logan felt a little pity for him.

Lucas sighed. He knew that the man was going to be very heartbroken if he didn’t agree to help him.

“I will help you, but on one condition…”

“Anything at all! Whatever you want!” Dexter interrupted Lucas who frowned at him.

“I am sorry, Sir! Please don’t change your mind!”

“I will tell you what my condition is after I am done with your daughter. Tell me where your daughter is and I will be there.”

“But, Sir…”

“Go home, Mr. Buffet. You heard what my brother said.” Logan interrupted Dexter who got up from the ground, told them the address, and walked into his car.

Lucas and Logan watched him as he drove off until he was no longer visible.

“Will you help him? He looked so forlorn Lucas.” Logan said out of pity for Dexter.

“I will help him. These gifts I have will mean nothing if I can’t help people with them.” Lucas retorted shortly before they got into one of the cars they came with and left.

Logan kept some of his soldiers around the Estate to make sure that Jemima or her mother were not going to be able to access the mansion.

As soon as he got to Rose Haven, Lucas picked up some of the things he needed and left for the address Dexter told him.

He was quick to arrive to the surprise of Dexter and his wife. They were both standing in front of their house and looking out for him.

“Divine Healer?! You came!” Dexter exclaimed, ushering Lucas into the house.

“I always keep to my words. Take me to your daughter.”

“This way, please.” Dexter led Lucas to a room by the left corner of the building while his wife Stacy followed suit. She was relieved that there was hope for her daughter.

An offensive stench hit Lucas as soon as he stepped foot into the room. But there was no one inside, just an empty bed and thick curtains covering everywhere.

“Daisy? Someone is here to see you.” Dexter said.

“Go away! I don’t want to see anyone!” A fragile voice muttered. It was hard to tell if it was a male or female voice.

Lucas sensed pain in the voice. He had to move close to the direction instantly.

He noticed that Dexter and his wife didn’t want to go into the room because of the stench while they twisted their noses, but he didn’t bother about them.

“Daisy? Is that you?” Lucas said calmly, still moving slowly in that direction.

The curtain in front of him was bulged, meaning that someone was hiding there.

“Daisy? It’s okay. I am here to help you. Can you please come out?”

“No! I can’t I don’t want to scare you! Everyone thinks I am a monster! They run away as soon as they see me!”

“I won’t run. I promise.” Lucas insisted, going closer until there were just a few meters between him and Daisy.

“I am still waiting for you, Daisy. I am only here to help, I promise not to run.”

“Are you sure?” She asked with a voice laced with so much doubt.

“Why don’t you find out yourself?”

Lucas waited patiently even though it took a while before Daisy finally came out of hiding.

He was taken aback as soon as he saw her, but he was able to get a grip on himself.

She was seated in a wheelchair. Her face was burnt beyond recognition, causing her to look like a monster. Many parts of her body suffered the same fate.

“I am so sorry, Daisy. I will make sure you smile again. No one will ever make fun of you.” Lucas moved closer to Daisy to observe her, but she had something to whisper to him.

“Please take me away from here. They treat me with so much cruelty like I am not their child. I will do anything you want.”
