Phoenix Sisters

Realizing that Lucas already suspected their actions, the Phoenix daughters looked away slowly, unable to deal with his stern look.

“What do you want?” Lucas asked again, but it didn’t look like the response was coming anytime soon.

He sighed. “Well, if you are not going to tell me why you are here, I think we should continue with the party. The night is still young, and I haven’t even had a glass of wine.”

“Wait!” Lara stopped him from leaving, and because he wanted to have a taste of sweet wine, Logan gestured to the sommelier carrying a tray filled with champagne flutes.

He grabbed two, offered one to Lucas, and took a sip.

None of the Phoenix daughters was ready to speak, but seeing that Lucas was gradually losing his patience, Lara who was the eldest decided it was high time she broke the lingering silence.

“My father is dying, Lucas!” She swallowed hard, and even the heavy sigh she heaved wasn’t enough to get rid of the anxiety that gripped her.

Her utterance had ushered her and her sisters into a quick rush of sensation that almost caused them an emotional breakdown.

“Vance Phoenix is dying?!” Logan asked with furrowed brows, and the silent expression on Lara’s face was enough to give him an answer.

“Do you know who that is?” Lucas inquired, seeing that he was the only one who didn’t know who Vance Phoenix was.

Logan took the liberty of quenching the thirst of his curiosity. “He is like the greatest godfather in Rubbyvile, Lucas. He owns most of the estates and also deals in precious stones and oil. He is a big deal, Lucas.”

“Hmm.” Lucas didn’t seem so impressed, and because that was not the kind of expression the Phoenix daughters were expecting to get from him, they took turns, exchanging glances at each other.

“So if he is the biggest deal in this City, how come he has not been able to find a cure for his sickness? I am sure that he can afford to get any Doctor of his choice.”

“That’s because we have tried all the Doctors and Divine healers we can think of,” Lana responded anxiously.

“No one has been able to cure him.” Lola chipped in. “You are the only one who has not tried to cure him.” She added.

Lara stepped forward with tears in her eyes. “Our joy knew no bounds when we were told that you were in this city, Lucas. I am sure that with your rare techniques and golden hands, our father will be fine.”

Lucas looked around, and even the guests standing nearby wanted him to help.

He took a deep breath and turned to Lara without letting go of his deadpan expression.

“I will be there tomorrow, Lara. You and your sisters can go home and stay with your father.”

Lola lifted her hands as though she was asking for permission to speak. “Will you come in the morning? My father has little time left to live.”

“Go home, Lara,” Lucas repeated his words, and the Phoenix daughters were left with no choice but to walk away.

It was obvious that they didn’t plan to party but to plead with the Divine Healer to save their father.

The rest of the guests watched as they walked away, and some of the ladies had to remind their gawking men that they were standing right beside them.

Logan moved closer to Lucas and pointed at the boxes. “What are we going to do with these, Lucas?” He knew they didn’t need them, but they were not going to leave them there.

Lucas looked down at the boxes, and after a while, he sighed. “Maybe we should them, Logan. Just in case they want them back.” He walked away slowly, and just as he was about to turn to his right, he was approached by two men.

He stopped, and certain that he didn’t know who they were, a curious expression followed.

Clad in expensive white tuxedos, the men who were almost the same ages as Lucas said nothing, and he was forced to discard the silence.

“Gentlemen? How may I help you?”

“You are Lucas Foden?” The man by the left asked like he wasn’t sure of his identity.

Lucas didn’t see any need to respond to those words that he found very ridiculous, so he stared expressionlessly.

The second man extended his right hand for a handshake. “We have heard so much about you.”

“Have you?” Lucas smirked, ignoring the man’s gesture as he was yet to know why they had approached him.

The man was forced to lower his hand, discarding his smile as he turned to his companion who stepped forward to identify themselves.

“My name is Jack, and this is my brother, Isaac. We are known as the Axton brothers.”

Jack had expected Lucas to be moved by the mention of their popular names, but seeing his plain countenance, his smile vanished at once.

He cleared his throat twice to get rid of the clog that gripped him, and glanced at his brother before he continued.

“We have heard so much about you, Lucas Foden. We would love to speak to you about something that would be very beneficial to all of us.”

Lucas scoffed, growing weary of hearing the same words that were meant to entice him.

He managed to feign a smile. “Gentlemen? We are here for a party. I think we should focus on that and leave any discussion for next time.”

“But…”

“That will be all, Jack.” He interrupted without getting rid of his smile, and then he left.

The Axton brothers were disappointed, watching as Lucas vanished into the crowd.

Isaac grunted. “I told you that he was going to be a hard nut to crack, Jack.” His anger was slowly showing on his face, but Jack’s confidence was still intact.

“Don’t worry, Isaac. Lucas Foden may be a god on his own, but with the right method, we can get this god into our sanctuary.” He let out a slight sinister laugh that only he and his younger brother heard.

He staggered backward, rubbing his left hand on his cheek without saying a word. Scarlett was ready to hit him again. “What are you doing here?!” She was furious, fuming in an intense rage. Lucas turned to his mother and gave her the kind of look that was eager for an explanation. The leader of the group was rubbing his cheek, and as some point, he looked at his companions who were expecting him to react. “We are here to see the Divine Healer, Scarlett. We were told that he lives here now.” Lucas stepped forward. “Who are you?” He was still curious, and since his mother was not prepared to say the reason why she hit the man, he didn’t bother to ask. “My name is Seth, Divine Healer, and these are my companions. We are the messengers of the Emperor of Narmia. We travelled all the way from the East to see you.” From what the leader of th

I am guessing this is your first son.” Iris laughed hysterically, and Logan had to force himself not to join her. “First, you said I was pregnant, and now you already know the gender of the child you claim is in my womb.” “Hmm-mm.” Lucas’ confidence was unwavering, and to help resolve the issue, Briana decided to step in.“I have a pregnancy test kit!” She announced, avoiding her mother’s eyes.Scarlett furrowed her brows. “What do you need that for?!” She asked, but Briana was already on her way out of the living room. She returned as soon as she could and handed the kit over to Iris. “I think this will tell us the truth, Iris.”Iris scoffed. “There is no way I am doing any stupid test! But this is the only thing that will make me happy. Marry my daughters, and you will give me profound peace.”“All of them?” Lucas inquired, and the old man nodded. “Yes, all of them.” Lucas scoffed. “I don’t think I can handle your three daughters all together, Mr. Phoenix.” He looked at Lara and her sisters, and because they were still upset, they rolled their eyes at him one after the other. “I have some other things to do, Mr. Phoenix. We are done here since the purpose of my coming has been fulfilled.”The Divine Healer was ready to leave, but the old man was still desperate. “Please, Lu

I heard he was killed in a fire.” “He is standing right here in front of you, Father,” Lara assured, turning to Lucas with an assuring smile. Vance nodded, and then he started gripping, trying to sit up.The two stewards behind him quickly grabbed him and helped him up.“Divine Healer?
