Prologue: Part 4

All events were over, and the students who failed and those who were accepted had left the hall. Many were disappointed with their incompetence, and some were happy to be accepted into this renowned magic school. I remained standing in the hall with an angry face blaming EVA. Cheilos came to me then said.

"It's over.. huh?" Cheilos said as he approached me.

When he was close, I immediately turned around and grabbed his collar as he said.

"You... want to make fun of me!!?" I said in a very angry tone.

Then Cheilos replied to my words by saying.

"Know your place, commoner. I'm not someone you can grab by the collar," Cheilos said in an arrogant tone like nobility and turned his gaze towards me while lifting his head.

I was so annoyed when he say like that and the way he saw me as trash. I replied by saying.

"You're done with acting good-natured noble? MISTER PLATINA" I said, mocking his family name by spelling his family name.

Cheilos reacted to that. Then he replied by holding my collar and angry face while saying.

"I told you, know where your place is, commoners!!" Cheilos said angrily while holding my collar.

Then someone came to break the atmosphere and say.

"Hey, come on, you guys..." said ??? in a discreet tone.

From the tone of his voice, he had no intention of letting us go but rather enjoying the atmosphere. Then Cheilos turned his eyes away from me and saw the source of the sound. After that, he took off my collar, and so did I. I also turned my head in the direction Cheilos was looking at.

"Vanessa, what are you want?" I said.

Then Vanessa answered me jokingly.

"No.. nooooothing" said Vanessa.

He still had time to joke about my worst situation right now.

"Are you going to make fun with me too?" I said with an annoyed face.

Then Vanessa answered me jokingly again.

"No, since earlier, no one wants to make fun of you, Oz," said Vanessa.

(instead of taking care of these rich kids, I'd better go to EVA now and demand accountability).

After that, I left them, and when I was at the door to the hallway, Vanessa raised her voice.

"Ms. Eva?" Vanessa said wirg jokingly tone.

I stopped and turned to Vanessa, and I said.

"What do you mean?" I said.

"You want to see her, right?" she said.

"What are you wanted to say!?" I said.

He smiled and answered my question without being serious like before.

"Nothing. All I know just there will only be a school principal's child who will enter this school, and then THE PRINCIPAL'S CHILD is FAILED" Vanessa said with raised her voice and make some joke with Oz.

Then I saw the reaction of Cheilos, who was looking at me after hearing that. Still, Cheilos's expression was casual, which meant he also knew about me.

"So you two already know, huh?" I said.

After that, Vanessa said.

"If you're looking for Eva, she's not at school right now…" Vanessa said.

"If you want to lie, you better do it as well as possible. Don't mess with me!" I said.

"I'm not deceiving you. Eva isn't at school at the moment," said Vanessa.

I was a bit surprised by that and asked.

"What do you mean?" I said.

"He disappeared," said Vanessa, who answered me without being serious as usual.

"Don't take the joke now, Vanessa! "I said.

(Is it possible that he ran away? No, he won't run away. Urgent business? It's even more pressing business with me. Does that mean he went to protect himself? This is the only clue. Or maybe he doesn't care about me and is more concerned with other matters than mine? That makes me get annoyed).

I'm so annoyed with Vanessa right now. Here I thought to make her talk seriously when talking to me at this time, and suddenly I thought the best way was to reveal the dark past of my interlocutor. First, I must analyze who my interlocutor is like, her character, strengths and weaknesses, family status, and so on. Next, I started with a little smile while looking at my interlocutor so that the psychological war could begin. After that, I will tell her the advantages of her first, and then I will destroy his advantages with cruel words. If, after that, she starts getting serious, it means I have beaten him in the psychological war.

Vanessa, my conversation partner, saw me smile and responded with a mocking face, which she still didn't talk to me seriously. Vanessa said.

"Your smile is disgusting! "said Vanessa, who mocked my smile.

Then this is where I started the psychological war.

"From the books I've read it, the Scarlet family can read someone's mind right? So I don't believe what you said about hearing it from someone, or maybe the person you said earlier was Cheilos?" I said.

Reading someone's mind is an ability that allows you to hear people talking to themselves, which means that if the Scarlet family has the advantage of reading someone's mind, then right now, Vanessa from the Scarlet family must be reading mine.

After I said that the Scarlet family could read minds, both were surprised by what I said, but Vanessa still wasn't serious about facing her interlocutor. Vanessa answered my statement by saying.

"You have extensive knowledge, Oz," said Vanessa rather seriously.

Vanessa smiled slightly after I said that. And she continued his words by saying.

"That's right... I'm a telepathic user, but if what you said about 'that person' that I said earlier was Cheilos is wrong," said Vanessa.

"means.. what 'that person' you said was me?" I said.

"Maybe" Vanessa said jokingly again.

(You piss me off rich girl).

Here Vanessa again doesn't answer my statement seriously, which means I haven't succeeded in winning this psychological war. After that, I must proceed to the next stage, destroying the excess with vicious words. I said.

"No, I thought you couldn't be telepathic, right? But reading someone's gestures? Am I right?" I said.

Cheilos was shocked, and Vanessa was silent, meaning Vanessa had started seriously answering my questions, and I won this psychological war.

I knew the Scarlet family didn't mind reading in their true sense because I felt awkward reading that book in Eva's library. Suppose the Scarlet family can read other people's minds. Why did the war with Tara Shabate (human) take so long? The war shouldn't have happened for a long time because just by reading minds, we can quickly find out the strategy that the enemy is carrying out.

""The noble family you're so proud of isn't that great after all," I said.

And my second speculation is that reading other people's thoughts is the same as knowing all the thoughts of someone nearby. From the books I read in Eva's library, mind reading would cause one's mental breakdown from always hearing someone's thoughts as long as one is near them, meaning mind reading cannot be controlled.

My second speculation is stronger when compared to my first speculation because my second speculation has clear evidence, and the book is titled reading people's minds. The book's contents disprove the existence of magic in reading one's mind and how to read one's gestures like reading one's mind.

My goal was also achieved here to make her stop joking with me. I have destroyed her advantage by uncovering the secret advantage of the Scarlet family, which is only reading someone's gestures.

"You heard from Eva, right? Where is she now?" I said seriously.

Cheilos spontaneously wanted to take out his wand because the statement I issued earlier was tantamount to insulting the history of Scarlet's family. Vanessa spread her hand to stop Cheilos, who was about to take out his wand. Vanessa said.

"Stop Cheilos!! You don't need to worry about me." Vanessa said.

(Don't make mess with me!!).

Cheilos stopped taking out his wand because of the words that came from Vanessa. Suppose Cheilos intends to cast his magic there. In that case, I will definitely lose because I can't do magic either but only by the results of my physical training from childhood to now. After that Vanessa said.

"Ms. Eva... she's a- on the west roof," said Vanessa, who was already broken.

And it was I who won this psychological war.

...

..

.

As Oz heads to the west roof, Cheilos asks Vanessa. Cheilos saying.

"Why did you stop me earlier? Don't you usually kill people who insult your family like before?" Cheilos said to Vanessa.

Then Vanessa answered Cheilos's question by looking at him, and Cheilos immediately understood the answer.

"I see," said Cheilos, quickly understanding just by looking at the expression that Vanessa issued. Then Vanessa said.

"Are we doing this right?" Vanessa said.

"I dunno.. We're just doing what we're told," said Cheilos.

Then Cheilos continued his words by saying.

"During the magic test earlier... why did you even intend to help him?" said Cheilos.

Then Vanessa reacted slightly with a statement from Cheilos. After that, Vanessa said.

"I don't understand what you're saying," Vanessa said.

Cheilos looked at Vanessa with a suspicious look and said.

"I see…" said Cheilos, who was facing Vanessa with a look full of suspicion.

Gia stepped into her private room with graceful yet emphatic movements. At the doorway, Fred stopped. He turned and gave a sharp stare that seemed capable of freezing the blood of anyone who dared to approach."Anyone who crosses this line without my permission will have their status in this church destroyed. The Saint does not want to be disturbed," Fred's baritone voice echoed coldly down the hallway, ensuring that the order could not be disputed. As soon as the thick oak door closed and locked, the atmosphere in the room changed completely. The warmth of the morning in the Basilica was nowhere to be felt here. I took a deep breath, letting the holy aura I wore as a "mask" in public melt away, replacing it with a much stronger aura of authority.I activated The White Fragment of the Philosopher's Stone inside my body. Instantly, pure and cold mana pressure radiated from my chest, enveloping the entire room. In this room, I was no longer just a Vatican Saint; I

  • Chapter 1: Part 70

The first morning sun of 1889 began to slip through the cracks in the velvet curtains, creating golden lines of light on the marble floor. I blinked, feeling my body much lighter after a very deep sleep. When I turned to the side, I found Fred still fast asleep. This was a rare sight; usually he was the first to be up and standing beside my bed in his neat cardinal's robe. But this morning, he looked very different from usual. His face, which usually looked stern and authoritative, now looked calm and relaxed in his sleep.I smiled slightly, then began to tease him. My fingers moved slowly, playing with the tip of his nose, then moving on to caress his slightly rough cheek. Fred groaned softly in his sleep, his head moving slightly to avoid my touch, but he didn't wake up. I laughed softly without a sound and returned to playing with his eyelids, rubbing them gently with my index finger.Slowly, Fred's eyes opened. He blinked several times, trying to gather his

My footsteps echoed on the long, cold marble floor of the Vatican corridor. The heavy outer robe now enveloped my body, making my every movement feel stiff and formal. Fred walked one step behind me, his red cardinal's robe sweeping the floor with a rhythmic swish. As soon as we left the private residence wing, the relaxed atmosphere of the egg tea vanished, replaced by the sharp scent of incense and the tension hanging in the air.The two nuns trailed far behind, while along the corridor, the Guardians stood at attention with their spears, saluting as we passed. I took a deep breath, adjusting my expression. Slowly, the teasing, lazy Gia disappeared, replaced by the majestic, cold, and secretive Saint."Remember, Gia," Fred whispered very low, almost inaudible to anyone but me. "Hold your energy until the last hymn. Don't let them see you tremble."I didn't answer, only gave a small nod that was almost invisible. We entered the inner balcony area that fa

  • Chapter 1: Part 68

Night, Vatican city, 31 December 1888 AD As the year continues, I am currently drinking a famous Asian beverage. People there call it egg tea; they mix tea and eggs and stir them until smooth. Even when mixed with milk, it makes the taste stronger. (Drinking this before the big annual event relaxes me from all the tasks I have been working on.)The annual major event at the Vatican is the Vigil and Te Deum, a sacred ritual in which all the time that has passed is summarized in one grand prayer of thanksgiving.Behind the tall windows of my room, the silhouette of St. Peter's Basilica stood solidly under the dark night sky. The cold December air crept in through the marble cracks, but the warmth of the porcelain cup in my hands was far more powerful. As a Saint, the burden of prayers from thousands of people seemed to weigh heavily on my shoulders tonight. I knew that church officials and important guests had already begun to fill the pews below, awaiting my presence as their interme

  • Chapter 1: Part 67

"Why are you just silent, Oz?" Claire asked in a calm but emphatic voice. She didn't yell, but gave him a look that demanded honesty. Oz's prolonged silence began to feel unnatural to her, as if an invisible wall had suddenly separated them.Claire folded her arms on the table, maintaining her dignity even though the atmosphere in the inn was getting tense. She realized that every second that passed without an answer would only deepen the doubt between them. To her, Oz's current calmness seemed more like avoidance than just a thought process.(His attitude is very strange. What is he really thinking behind that mask? Did my question touch on something that should have remained hidden?) Claire thought to herself.Meanwhile, Leo, who had been explosive, now showed a drastic change in behavior. He no longer interrupted with curses or anger. Now he just sat stiffly with a blank stare, as if all his energy and emotions had been drained in an instant for no apparent reason.Claire glanced at

Holmes leaned forward until his shadow covered the dull wooden table. He ignored Leo's trembling fist and Claire's scrutinizing stare as she sat stiffly in front of him. The talented detective's focus was entirely on the mysterious figure in the black cloak."So, Oz," Holmes began provocatively. "Let's talk about last night at the Guild. You managed to pull that red fragment out of the receptionist's body, didn't you? Moriarty... a consciousness capable of splitting itself. Now you must be able to sense all of their presence in this city."Oz remained motionless, but behind his mask, he felt the constant pulse of the red energy he had just assimilated. Holmes was right; he was now connected to a vast network of consciousness, but everything felt like a thick fog that was both confusing and suffocating."I can feel their presence," Oz's voice was low and echoing. "But there's a big problem. Thousands of consciousnesses are scattered evenly at the same time. I don't know which one is rea
