A Monster

"A bit of the population have been migrating into Aegon lately, should we do anything about that?" Gregory questioned his leader as they walked down a passage that lead out of Noah's lab.

"I understand your skepticism towards everybody, but we should really let them be this time. I'm sure it's not what you're thinking"

A light frown appeared on the commanders face before he glanced away from the compassionate eyes of his leader. "I'm just trying to keep everyone safe, those Borion bastards are sneaky rats, they might be hiding amongst the regular citizens." Gregory reminded. "Besides the Ostrians haven't fully been eradicated, the risk of infection is still there."

"I guess you're right about that one, have Albert and his team go on one last survey around the city. After that we'll be heading towards the refugee camps."

Aegon was mostly inhabited by mutants, but that didn't separate them from Tantra's government. Although Roman was basically in charge of almost everything in Aegon, he still answered to the governor of Aegon on rare occasions.

Christopher Smith was a Supersoldier, one of the few that Roman trusted. Currently he was in charge of the state and so far there has been a peaceful coexistence between the Supersoldier and the Mutants. Christopher provided most of the supplies used by the Mutants, and he did this against the orders of the Tantra government. Many of his kind considered him a traitor, but that didn't stop the Supersoldier from assisting those who he considered their only hope.

Christopher was a philanthropist, and a big one at that. Without having to ask Roman could already tell that the governor was already at the refugee camps attending to the few citizens who considered migrating to Aegon. Roman had no doubts about the security of the camps, one of his allies, a pro Mutant was already at the camp, and Christopher was a capable fighter himself.

"The information has been passed to Albert, shall I call the governor and ask him of the current condition?"

"That won't be necessary, we'll find out ourselves when we get there." Placing his hand atop the commanders shoulders, Roman transported himself and the man into the camp in less than a second.

Their sudden appearance had definitely caused a series of different reactions from the citizens who were staring at the duo without end. Some of them were terrified of their capabilities, few considered them to be cool, while others didn't find the need to care at all.

"Mr Roman, Commander Gregory, it's really nice of you two to show up." The governor, Christopher Smith welcomed the two with handshakes.

"How are things over here? How many of them are here?" Roman inquired. He had already taken a headcount earlier after their entrance, but he wanted to make sure his own data corresponded with those of the governor.

"So far seventy of them have been provided with good accommodation, and your ally Michael has been a great help." The governor turned towards the file beside him to make sure he was actually correct before finishing up his report. "Ninety five are yet to be attended to, we might not be able to provide assistance to all of them."

Roman understood well what the governor meant. Aegon was yet to be restored from the destruction caused by the Ostrians, and with the low findings they received from the government they were forced to prioritise feeding over reconstruction of infrastructures. They weren't enough buildings or underground bunkers to house this much numbers, and leaving them in the streets wasn't a good idea either. They were really in a tough situation here.

"What about the old factory, surely we can make use of the place for now."

"That wouldn't be a good idea, normal citizens like themselves should avoid that area for now. The vaccines we've administered might not be efficient to completely halt mutation in their systems should they affected by any mutagenic substance" Christopher alerted.

"Besides isn't that place filled with Ostrians?"

They were gasped of terror coming from the crowd after the commander's question. His voice was louder than the average human, and he clearly did not understand how to whisper.

"The only way we can help them is by sending them back to the government. If they're going to be stingy with their money, they might as well hold onto their citizens."

"Gregory!" Roman shunned. "Attend to the much you can, Gregory and I will be paying the Borion government a little visit."

"Are you sure that's a good idea, if you make any miscalculated decisions you'll be falling right into their trap."

"Don't worry about us, just focus on getting the citizens a safe place to stay." Roman said with a pat on the Supersoldier's back. "Let's go Gregory."

"What exactly do you plan on telling them when we get there? Even if you manage to convince them to raise Aegon's funds, there's no way we're going to erect buildings for those people to stay in." Gregory paused abruptly, and with a hand on his Roman's shoulder stopped him from moving any further.

"What is it now Gregory?" Roman asked with an arched brow. For someone who always wanted smoke with the government Gregory was definitely acting a little bit odd.

"Ostrians, they're headed towards the centre!"

"What?!" In a flash Roman had himself and the commander teleported back to the refugee camp.

"...How....how did this happen...?" His palms tightened into fists and he grit his teeth tightly. While his leader was still fuming over the bloodied sight before him, Gregory launched a lance of condensed solidified energy to the first monster before him before sending a volley of energy bolts that finally dispersed the persistent Ostrian. Although Roman was the strongest of the five Pro Mutants, he lacked a pivotal attribute that the others had, which was his inability to differentiate Ostrians from humans through sensory abilities.

Roman was basically an Ostrian, without sight he could barely tell apart the difference between an Ostrian and a human being and this was a very huge drawback in his strength.

While he was still struggling against the dozens of Ostrians who were launching themselves at him, Gregory couldn't help but realize that compared to the real deal, these Ostrians were quite weak. His offensive abilities were the weakest amongst all the pro Mutants, yet he was able to take down an Ostrian with just two attacks, not to mention that these particular ones had no trouble getting past his erasure, it was almost as if they weren't influenced by it at all.

Suddenly Gregory felt a telekinetic energy lock onto him and hurl him away, forcing him to steady himself by stabbing one of his energy constructed blades into the ground. In the same moment, a wide beam of pure energy shot past him and decimated everything with a fifty metre radius. Two more powerful beams followed suite and in the next second they was nothing but ash and dust behind him. Never in his life had he seen his leader this pissed before, without even realising it he was already trembling in fear. Roman Alaric was indeed a monster.
