‘A new notification?’

Indeed, the system had sent him a new notification.

‘What were the chances that It was good news? Or maybe it was bad news?’

He would have to find out. Adjusting his position on the bed, he quickly checked the notification panel. There were a couple of unread messages there, but he chose to read the latest one.

[Host, your short term quests have arrived. Complete them to gain astonishing rewards]

A short term quest? There was really another type of quest?!. He quickly grew ecstatic instantly. He navigated to the quests panel.

]

Haruto froze.

‘Crap! Two grade 3 quests?! And what the hell is a ore vein?!’

There was no telling how much he'd gain from a grade 3 quest. With how his captain had described power systems, even the lowest was bound to hold bountiful rewards.

Somehow, he knew or rather, he guessed that the system's power grades was similar to that of the sentinels.

And so, there were two things he wasn't accounting for. One of it was that in reality, he had never truly encountered an horror!. Remembering how the Captain had painted those creatures, he shivered. As a dormant human, he didn't have a chance at challenging even the weakest of monstrosities like that. And going alone?.

‘Isn’t this too much?’

The first one was especially harrowing. He more or less had an idea of what undead creatures were. They were living bodies already ridded of their souls. They were dark creatures that had no goal but to devour life. They were true horrors!. They were terrifying.

‘Were they called undead for naught?’

And…

Haruto squinted his eyes.

‘What the hell is unknown? Was it some kind of secret? He was going to have to fight it?’

The second quest said he had to kill the unknown. If there was anything that killed a man very swiftly and efficiently, it was something he had absolutely no idea about. Grimacing, he chose not to dwell on it for now, he navigated back to his status panel.

Stat Points: 5

]

Staring at the panel again, he got tingly thinking about how powerful he would become If he upgraded his stats. According to his guess, the system gave him 5 points for his daily quests. He would have to check the notifications left unread but wasn't that stinginess! Just five points?! Really?!.

As an experiment, Haruto chose to invest 1 point into his strength stat. Ecstatic, he approached the chair near the table beside his book shelf and lifted it. He lifted it easily, with one hand. But…

He palmed his face. He would've lifted the damn thing normally after all!.

In annoyance, he invested all 4 remaining SPs into his strength attribute. Then, he tried to lift it again.

‘What the hell!’

Haruto found it many times more easier to life the wooden chair. He even had no trouble lifting it with just one hand until it reached the most centimeter it could reach above his head.

‘Wow!’

‘I can grow stronger!’

Haruto grew even more ecstatic. He had found a unique way to grow stronger!.

‘Scratch that’

The real thing was. A unique way to grow stronger had found him. Either way, there was now a clear path to get to his sister. He could now get to Lilly!.

Suppressing his excitement, Haruto looked at the barricade of different stats on the panel. He could more or less understand a few things on it, like Strength, that meant his physical sturdiness…right?, Intelligence, Agility. But what the hell was Spiritual Level?.

Sighing, and realizing he had to be done with the system as soon as possible, he got serious. There was only one thing left for him to do…

***

Back when he had fought Lord Khai, he was sure he heard the system said something related to receiving. He couldn't have been mistaken…right?. The chances he could be mistaken were close to zero. He was sure.

‘Goddamnit! You better give me something worth it!’

The battle with that bloodlust bastard was one of his darkest memories. The bastard had shown no mercy and would've without a doubt killed him if he slacked even by a little. He gritted his teeth in annoyance.

Filled with emotions, he checked the group of notifications and quickly located the one from when he defeated the knight.

It read:

[You have survived a clash with a Grade 1 abomination. Your rewards have arrived, do you wish to check them?]

Haruto froze. He stared at the notification in disbelief. His eyes widened so large, he was having trouble enlarging them anymore.

‘Grade 1!!! That bastard was grade one even in his weakened state!!’

Haruto broke a sweat. If it really was grade one, then, there was only one way to describe his attitude that day — NONCHALANT!!!. Yes, he was nonchalant!. He remembered all his actions, smirking, resilience?.

Damn it all!. Of course they were all useless!!. The bastard had definitely let him escape. He was definitely putting the act up just to make it look real.

How many strikes would a grade 1 Sentinel need to kill a mere dormant human even with the most mundane weapon?. With the way captain had given his explanation, None!. The oppressive aura alone was enough. Even with the quantum guard. If that thing really wanted to kill him. He was very sure he would not have escaped. His face quickly paled.

‘Damn it!’

He hated being mocked at. He hated being regarded as weak even though he was. He felt resentment towards that knight. He could imagine the smirk on the knight’s face — if he could — after he left. He gritted his teeth.

‘Damn it! Damn it all’

Even so, it was hard to think that the system would hire someone to train up it's host. Someone has powerful as that?. Who exactly built this thing? What was his/her aim?. Was he/she the unknown in the short term quest?.

‘Crap! So much questions!’

With no visible answers to his questions, Haruto chose to check his rewards from surviving a clash from the monstrosity. He wasn't shocked.

…He was left speechless.

The damn thing was as heavy as a boulder. Let alone carrying it, Haruto had trouble just lifting it barely some meters above the ground. He had a feeling he wouldn't even be able to move it if he hadn't upgraded his strength stat yet. What was it of? Tungsten?!. Haruto grunted shakily as he struggled with the rusted thing. “Kill him! Kill him!!! Kill him!!” It sounded like the chorus of a song. It was too much noise. Wasn't it?. Does it even matter? I'm going to die anyways. The people in front of me, I wondered what I did to them. Wasn't it that small crime?. That bastard! He caused this whole thing. My head hurt badly, my ears were so hot. Yeah….a few rods landed on it while they dragged me here. I looked around slowly….and sighed. Wasn't the sky beautiful? Resting on a wall and staring at the starry sky, wasn't it?. I licked my blood off my bleeding lips. First time tasting blood. What did it taste like again? Sweet? No, metallic. Yeah metallic. My lips curled upward a little…. almost unnoticeably. My whole being vibrated, and…..I could already sense it. Death. It was on it's way. Who would've thought that I would be it's victim today?. ‘I regret it…’ I gritted my teeth and a heavy pain seemed to find solace in my soul. ‘...I regret it!!!’ I groaned a little, a pain that came from shutt

[You will now be sent to your world.] ‘What?’ his vision darkened… What's happening? Sal felt immense emptiness. It lingered for a moment. But after some time, he started to feel his surroundings faintly. Strangely, He felt a little comfort and discomfort at the same time. His sense of touch, conflicting itself. The comfort, as he could tell, came from what he was currently sitting on, it was a little foamy. The discomfort on the other hand, was something he couldn't fully understand. Subsequently, his sense of smell kick started itself. At first, he couldn't fully tell what his nose picked up. But after sometime, he recognized it, it was a familiar aroma. Back at home, when he was living with Lily. On one occasion, he had killed three rats so ruthlessly after they ate the little supplies he managed to steal, and left them somewhere around the hut to rot. Sal suddenly felt like throwing up. His mouth opened up without his permission but nothing came out. Still yet, his throat

Memories flashed at intervals, all in smooth and seamless transitions. Memories of past occurrences, of both pain and happiness. However, they soon faded. Lazily, Sal opened his eyes. He could hear a constant buzz of electricity all around him. And the surrounding air reeked of…tech?. Droplets of sweat had formed on his forehead. ‘Am I dead?’ thought Sal. The surroundings seemed rather strange and foreign. It wasn't like what he was normally used to seeing anywhere in the world. He sat up slowly, holding his head and squinting his brows in the process. With one eye closed, he surveyed his current surroundings. ‘Where am I? Where's Lily?’ thought Sal. There was a machine on a table beside the bed he was currently lying on. It had strange uneven lines constantly changing shape but in a uniform direction on its screen. The machine just made a constant beep sound. He wondered what it was used for. There were many sharp objects and large machines —

She wanted to believe he was in the bathroom but there was not a single sound of water. Suddenly, her eyes rounded up into circles. What if?... “Mr Haruto!!” The nurse dropped the tray in her hand. She quickly pressed the emergency button on the wall. “Patient 05, ward 10 has left the hospital!!!” The nurse cried out in alarm. *** Sal attracted multiple gazes and toured the streets of Tokyo. “Is he mad?” “I think so” “You don't see this in Tokyo all the time” Sal totally ignored their whispers. He didn't have a hard time sneaking out of the hospital. All in the name of going out to check something, he left. Though he did know if they'd come for him or NOT. This really doesn't get old. It even looks more beautiful from below here. Sal stared at the tall buildings.

  • Chapter 12: I Can Grow Stronger!

As Haruto walked through the dimly lit hallway, he pondered about everything he'd learnt. It was a whole new set of revelations, never in his life did he dream he would be part of something so big. And 5 million yen?!. His got light headed from thinking about it. But, there was something bugging him, the captain, he was sure he didn't make a mistake. The grey eyes — albeit almost unnoticeable, and most of all, the empty gaze and slight displacement sometimes when he was aiming for a particular spot. The captain was blind!. It seemed the enchantment gave one abilities beyond comparison as well as a reverse of it to complement, was it…a flaw? Perhaps. It wasn't just the captain. The blonde also!. He had the power to compel one to say the truth when he was the king of lies himself! Ordinarily, his name already implied so. For now though, it was just an assumption, he had not yet confirmed it. After all, some theories all just remained what they were — theories. They never rea

  • Chapter 11: The Astral Sentinel Corps

Exiting the fleet of stairs, Haruto found himself in a long hallway. He couldn't really see to the end of the hallway. It was dimly lit by just two blue torches unlike the yellow ones below. The blue torches barely lit the hallway—their faint glow wasn’t enough to even reach halfway through. Gulping hard, Haruto started to walk down. Remembering what the young girl had told him, he counted the rooms as he did so.‘...five….six….seven….’ He soon got frustrated. Perhaps, because he couldn't see anything. But, the damn hallway seemed endless!. Haruto continued to walk, all the while, he didn't dare to hasten up his movements for fear of missing a room and entering a wrong one. What's more? With how conspicuous and wild abilities could be, who knew what kind of vicious creatures anyone here could control? He'd really be done for.‘... seventeen, eighteen…nineteen…tw…enty’ Haruto paused. He had reached a dead end. Then, something sparked in him. He remembered

Haruto stuck to Genzi’s back like a bug. He couldn't afford to lose the blonde no matter how much resentment he held towards him right now.‘Damnation’ He could see smoke intrude the air until it looked like a fog in places the blonde passed. People took powdery stuff into their noses. What's more? they smoked strange objects into their lungs in insane quantities. ‘Aren’t they literally frying their lungs?!’ Back on homeworld, only the King and his advisors were allowed the privilege of smoking, even so in very small quantities and special types of whatever they smoked that would cause little to no harm. Haruto sighed and looked forward to follow…Haruto’s face twitched.‘Goddamnit!! He's gone!’ His heart beat quickened almost instantly. Looking at him with irritation and malice, the towering man said in a deep voice:“I don't like being kept waiting” ‘Damn it!’ Haruto gritted his teeth in regret. ‘What’s with me and making wrong choices? Why did I come here at night? Just why? Damn it!!’ Taking Haruto's silence to depict making him look like a fool amidst his kin, the towering man suddenly stood upright and smiled.“You leave me no choice kid, you should blame yourself for loitering around at a late time like this,” Haruto watched the man reach out to grab his shoulders. He cursed continuously in his mind.‘Why am I so weak? Just why? Can't I just punch this asshole on his face and send his gre
