The nurse stared at him.
He could understand why. From the outside this made no sense. A man brought in barely conscious in the middle of the night, standing up the next morning like he had slept well and was ready for breakfast. “It is a miracle you survived,” the nurse said. She sounded like she meant it. “The lady who brought you in — she said she found you collapsed on the road. When the attending first saw you he thought” She stopped herself. “You should not even be standing right now.” “I know,” Nathan said quietly. “But I am. Thank you for looking after me.” He looked around the room for his clothes. They were folded on the chair in the corner. Someone had done their best with them but they were still torn. He picked them up. The smell hit him immediately. Underneath the blood and the sweat underneath all of it there was a fragrance. Subtle but unmistakable. Rich in a way and he could tell this wasn't an ordinary cheap perfume. Like something made from rare things by someone who understood what rare things were worth. He held the shirt for a moment and breathed it in. A woman's perfume, he stood very still. Fragments came back. Not clear — not a full memory but fragments. The back of a car. Warmth. A face he could not quite focus on but knew was extraordinary. A feeling of heat moving through him that had nothing to do with temperature. “Was that real?” He looked around the room and then saw it. On the small table beside the bed. A bank card. And a small piece of paper with a PIN written on it in neat handwriting. He walked to the table and picked up the card. He turned it over, no name on the front. Just a bank logo and a card number. He held it and the fragments came back stronger. The back seat of a car. A woman. The warmth from her presence mixing with the energy from the mark on his chest. Her face close to his in the dark. “I thought it was a dream.” He pressed his hand over his eyes for a moment. “It was not a dream.” There had been a woman. A real woman. She had found him on the road. She had brought him here. She had left him money. He had no clear memory of her face. He had no idea who she was. He did not know her name or where she came from or why she had helped him. But the perfume on his clothes was not ordinary and the card in his hand was real and somewhere in this city there was a woman who had done something for him last night that he could not fully remember but could not dismiss. “I need to figure this out,” he thought. “Later. I need to figure all of this out later.” Right now he had more immediate problems. Derek Holt did not know he was alive. Serena did not know he was alive. They had thrown him into a garbage yard to be crushed with the morning waste and as far as they knew that was exactly what had happened. He needed to keep it that way. If Derek found out he had survived he would not make the same mistake twice. He would not send men with baseball bats next time. He would do something cleaner and more permanent. Nathan needed to stay invisible until he was ready. And to stay invisible he needed resources. Money of his own. A place to think. However he immediately felt his phone inside his pocket abd brought it out. He found the ATM app on his phone. His phone had survived the night somehow cracked screen, barely charged, but working. He typed in the card number and the PIN from the piece of paper. The balance loaded. He read it, he read it again. Two million dollars. He stood in the hospital room in his torn clothes and stared at the number on his cracked phone screen. Two. Million. Dollars. On a card left on a table beside his hospital bed by a woman he could barely remember. A woman whose face he could not clearly picture. A woman whose name he did not know. He stayed very still for a long moment. Then he put the card in his pocket. “I am giving this back.” he thought firmly. “wherever she is — I will find her and I will pay back every single dollar.” He was not going to spend money that was not his. Not a cent of it. He would find another way.Latest Chapter
Chapter 26
He had no other choice then, did he?Nathan's muscles tensed slightly, preparing to execute the techniques his body somehow knew — preparing to use what his fragmented memories called the Iron Fist style, a brutal and efficient combat system designed for exactly this kind of close-quarters situation. The bodyguard with the knife raised it slightly, adjusting his grip, preparing to make the cut.Two paces away now. Then one.Nathan's fist clenched. His spiritual energy began to flow, gathering in his arms and legs, preparing for the explosive burst of speed and strength he would need to—"What the hell do you think you are doing?!"The voice cut through the tension like a thunderclap. It was not loud.It was not a shout. But it carried absolute authority — the kind of authority that made everyone freeze in place instinctively, including the bodyguard with the knife raised just inches from Nathan's face.Everyone's heads snapped toward the source of the voice.Vivienne Sterling was stan
Chapter 25
At that moment, two of the strongest-looking security guards stepped forward in response to Claire's command. They moved with purpose, their expressions cold and professional, their hands reaching for the tactical knives they kept holstered at their belts. The blades came out with a soft metallic whisper that somehow seemed louder than it should have been in the tense silence.Sharp.Gleaming.Designed to cut through meat and bone with terrifying efficiency. They started walking toward Nathan with deliberate, measured steps, closing the distance between them with the kind of calm confidence that came from years of training and experience in doing exactly this kind of work.Claire watched them approach Nathan, and for the first time since this entire nightmare had begun, she felt a flicker of satisfaction. She knew that if she actually did this — if she actually followed through with cutting out Nathan's tongue right here and now — then at least she would not be severely punished when
Chapter 24
If it could be fixed. So there was no point in arguing with Nathan right now.No point in wasting breath on accusations and threats. She just needed to wait.Claire's jaw remained clenched, but she forced herself to speak in a more controlled tone."Well," she said slowly, her eyes locked on Nathan's face, "I am going to give you some minutes. Some minutes to see what is actually going to happen."The unspoken threat hung in the air between them: *And if she dies, you die with her.*Nathan nodded slightly, acknowledging the threat without seeming particularly concerned about it.And that calm acceptance — that complete lack of fear or defensiveness — only made Claire angrier. But she said nothing more. She turned away from Nathan and moved closer to where Vivienne was still bent forward on the pavement, her body trembling, her breathing labored.Claire knelt beside her employer, one hand hovering near Vivienne's shoulder but not quite touching, unsure whether contact would help or mak
Chapter 23
At that moment, upon seeing what was happening — upon seeing Vivienne bent forward in agony, vomiting up that thick, whitish substance that looked like corrupted pus — the secretary's face transformed into something beyond fury.It was certainty.Cold, absolute certainty that she had been right all along."I knew it," Claire said, her voice low and venomous. "I knew it. I knew that you were just a quack. I knew that nothing good was going to come from you."She took a step closer to where the bodyguards were holding Nathan, her eyes blazing with barely controlled rage."I blindly allowed you to do this," she continued, her voice rising slightly. "Yes, I blindly allowed you to touch the young miss when I knew — I *knew* — that nothing good was going to come from you. How could I have made such a mistake? How could I have been so stupid?"Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, her entire body trembling with fury and self-recrimination.Nathan looked at her calmly, despite being hel
Chapter 22
Vivienne was still lurching forward, her body rigid, her fists clenched so tightly her knuckles had gone white. Her face was twisted in an expression of pain — not the same unbearable, all-consuming agony she had been experiencing before, but something sharp and intense nonetheless.Like her body was fighting.Like whatever Nathan had done had triggered some kind of internal war, and her system was violently purging everything that did not belong. She looked like she was in pain.Terrible pain.Maybe even worse pain than before.Claire's mind went blank for a moment. Then it filled with fury."What the hell have you done to her?!" Claire's voice exploded across the space, sharp and accusing. "What the hell have you done to her?!"She took a step toward Nathan, her entire body trembling with rage."She has never vomited before!" Claire continued, her voice rising with each word. "Never! Not once! Ever since those doctors started treating her, she has never vomited before! What the hell
Chapter 21
At that moment, upon hearing what the secretary had just asked Are you done? Nathan felt a flicker of uncertainty pass through him.Yes, it was done.He could feel that much with absolute certainty. The spiritual energy he had transferred into Vivienne's body had completed its work. The unnatural cold that had been consuming her from the inside out had been neutralized. Her internal systems had been stabilized. The root cause of her condition had been addressed. It was done. But there was supposed to be a reaction by now.Nathan frowned slightly, his exhaustion momentarily forgotten as he studied Vivienne's peaceful, sleeping face.According to the knowledge that had somehow become part of him — knowledge he did not remember learning but that felt as natural as breathing — there was supposed to be a final stage in the healing process.A purge. The body was supposed to expel the toxins, the corrupted energy, the physical manifestations of whatever had been causing the problem in the f
