The Advance Team was being pushed back by the hordes of shoggoths that came their way.
“Leave those that are dead and take the injured ones back to base.” Luna shouted out as everyone grabbed the nearest to injured. “Zara, burn the corpses.” Koby said. Zara looked at him with a confused look. “The shoggoths might take their forms.” Koby explained further which caused her to create a wave of flames which consumed the flesh. “Flame Storm.” With that, the advance team fled back to the Recon Team’s position. The Recon Team had made their preparations, stacking furnitures on top of each other, making a good walk, so that anyone that comes through has to go over. The injured Advance Team made their hop over as the Recon Team prepared their attacks against the oncoming shoggoths. “Hold the line.” Clifford shouted at everyone as they attacked the shoggoths. The stacked up furnitures helped as the shoggoths were forced to climb over the construction. With this, they could deal with the shoggoths more effectively but there was still the lingering issue of their numbers. The shoggoths were just too many in contrast to the people available to fight them. “Take the injured back to the healers at base.” Rory said while striking a sound wave to disorient the shoggoths, giving others time to carry the injured. “I’ll help you out while Luna helps with the injured.” Koby offered Rory. Luna looked at Koby’s injury with a sigh. “You’re injured too, moron.” She said. “It doesn’t hurt much.” “Stop trying to act tough and get treatment.” Luna shouted. “Rory can handle it.” She concluded. “You good?” Koby looked at Rory for assurance. “I am.” Rory said as he pushed Koby towards Luna. The duo headed in with the injured while Rory and Clifford got ready to battle with the shoggoths as they broke through the barricade. One sped past them in the confusion and headed towards Luna and her crew. Just as the shoggoth was about to inflict an injury on Luna, Koby pushed her away using his body to block the hit as he was flung across the hallway unto the hordes of shoggoths on the ground floor. Clifford then summons up a boulder which he uses to smash the shoggoth. “Koby is dead!” Luna shouted out to Rory and Clifford. “Get the injured. We’ll hold them off here.” Clifford replied as he watched them carry the injured to safety. At the base, James comes in with a few injured people. Kai waves and moves towards him. “Is it very bad at the front lines?” He asked. “Whatever you’re thinking, triple it.” James said “Where’s Koby?” Kai asked using his eyes to search for Koby. “He should be coming in with Luna.” With that statement, Luna comes in with an injured on her shoulder. “Where’s Koby?” Kai asked again. “We lost him in a horde.” Luna said serious-faced as she dropped the injured for the healers to take care of. “What?” Kai and James voices together, shocked. “You have to be lying. He was just right behind me.” James said as he proceeded to move back to the front lines. “James, hold up.” Kai said holding onto him. “Koby needs us, bro.” James said already teary-eyed. “It wouldn’t help Koby if you put yourself in danger.” Kai said as he held James shoulders. “But he needs us.” “I know he can handle himself. You just have to focus on surviving for now.” Kai said as he put his fist to James’ chest. “How sure are you that he’ll survive?” James asked. “Zero percent. But I guess now is one of those times to have faith.” Kai said. James wiped his eyes before taking his sword and heading out to the front lines. “You kept a really level head.” Luna observed looking at Kai. “Being disoriented now won’t help us and Koby would have done the same thing.” “I do hope he’s okay.” Luna said as she patted Kai on the back before leaving. A small tear rolled down Kai’s cheek. “If you die, I’ll be so disappointed, Koby.” Back at the front lines, the fight between everyone and the shoggoths raged on. The shoggoths seemed to have the upper hand as they had pushed back the people. Rory was taking cover behind a furniture while Zara helped cauterize a wound he had sustained at his abdomen. “Man this sucks. We’re being pushed back.” He complained. “There’s not much we can do, the heads of the close range fighters aren’t here yet and we’ve lost one of them already.” Zara said “Please tell me this isn’t how I die.” Rory chuckled. “Hold still, would you?” Just then, Clifford slid behind the furniture dodging an attack. “Rory, we’re gonna have to abandon those safety we were taking note of.” He said. “No sign of Koby, yet?” Rory asked. “There is no way, someone would survive the hordes down there. You have to let loose or they’ll overwhelm us.” Clifford said, irritation vivid in his voice. “And if Koby is alive, I’ll probably kill him in the process.” Rory reasoned. “That is a huge if , Rory.” Clifford yelled back. “Clifford’s right. You can’t put everyone’s fate on an if. You have to let loose if we’re to have a chance at surviving.” Zara said. “Man, this is such a drag.” Rory said as he ran towards the shoggoths. “Sonic Boom.” He screamed out creating a massive shockwave that pushed back the shoggoths, sending most of them flying. The shoggoths that received a direct hit from the blast were splattered to pieces from the impact. Seeing this, Zara stepped up using her fire magic while imbuing it with as much energy as she could. “Turbulence.” This created a huge current of fire that burnt away at the pieces of shoggoths. “It’s time to get serious everyone. Put your all into this.” Rory screamed as he pulled out a dagger from his inventory and ran into the storm of shoggoths. Seeing Rory run into the storm, most gained enough courage and ran in with him, slashing and throwing attacks. It seemed like they were pushing the shoggoths back for a while but it was not enough. The numbers of the shoggoths just kept pouring in. Just as a shoggoth was about to behead someone, an attack flew in. “Second Technique: Moon Sweeping.” James had come in cutting the shoggoth’s tentacle clean off as he kicked the person out of the way and charged his sword with more energy. “First Technique: Thousand Strikes.” With that he pierced a large blow through several shoggoths. His fury was visible on his face as he fought his way through them. “Watch yourselves, the calvary is here.” Luna said as she hacked off a shoggoth with her longsword and Kai fired shots at stray shoggoths. “These things are not as hard as they seem, Let’s finish them.” Kai said trying to boost morale as reinforcements from the Base Protectors came charging in to join the Advance and Recon teams in the fight.Latest Chapter
THE SERPENT
Jumping upwards, Koby drew his hatchets to strike but the serpent was too fast for it's size —twisting midair it dodged his blow and slammed him aside with it's massive body, flinging him from the trees and unto the ground with a brutal thud. “Koby!!” Kai shouted, eyes wide as he saw Koby crash violently to the ground. Looking down, he saw Koby coughing violently. He had survived the fall — it seemed like he had instinctively channeled his aura around his body thereby cushioning the impact— but he was dazed. But he had drawn more than just the serpent's attention. From the shadows, shrieking shoggoths swarmed him. Growling, Koby spun with his hatchets cutting down the first wave in a flurry of steel and rage. Panting, he looked up, gritting his teeth. “ Don't worry about me.” With those words, Kai didn't hesistate, readying his how and fired a shot at the serpent. As expected, it dodged— and used it's momentum to launch at Kai. He jumped out of the way just in time for James t
SMOKE IN THE FAR EAST
“Finally, they give us rewards for quests." Kai said. "If this is really like a game, aren't we supposed to get coins for the kills we made so far?” James reasoned. "Maybe we have been receiving..." Koby drawled on as he sat on a tree branch and activated his windows. At the bottom left corner he saw it, the coin balance. He had accumulated fifty thousand coins. He guessed that they were from the shoggoths they had killed so he turned to the others. "Check your windows for your coin balances." They opened their windows as suggested by Koby and confirmed their coin balances. They could also view their available skills and equipments in inventory. "You'd think that there would be an evaluation of strength, speed, and the rest." James observed. "I suppose it's going to be easy leveling up as we thought." Kai said. "Let's take note of the weapons we have." Koby said as everyone gathered together. "We all have weapons besides Raya." James confirmed. "It seems the system di
THE FOREST OF SHOGGOTHS
“Are you crazy?” Kai shouted at Koby.“You do remember that the shoggoths come from the forest?” James asked.“But they don’t attack until the designated time is up.” Koby replied.“Yup, it’s official. You’re crazy. I need to sit down.” Kai said taking a seat as he held his head.“Did you finally lose it?” James asked“ Look, if I stay here for the next wave of shoggoths, it may be my last.” Koby explained.“How so?” Kai asked.“I just killed six people, there will be others waiting for the right moment to kill me. They already see me as a monster.”“ Still you can’t …”“Can’t what? You want me to stay for the next wave? I assure you that I am surely going to get stabbed in the back or worse, something or someone could target one of you to get to me. Don’t you watch movies?” Koby tried to reason with Kai.“Are you seriously comparing movies to reality?” James asked amazed.“I like to think that besides the exaggeration, there are some truths to be found in movies.”“What?”James said s
ABANDONMENT
Everyone tried to gather their strength while staring daggers at Koby who was trying to recollect himself with Kai and James by his side. Some had uttered their opposition to letting Koby stay alive, but none was bold enough to talk to Koby directly, because they were still afraid of him. “Kai,did I hurt anyone in my rampage?” Koby finally asked having had enough of the cold treatment everyone was giving him. “Well, technically…” “Don’t lie, tell me the truth. I can handle it.” Koby assured. Before Kai could answer , Rory came into the conversation. “Six people died, not many injured.”- he said to Koby-“ luckily the representatives kept you from killing more at the cost of their own lives.” Koby let out a heavy sigh, clearly disturbed. He looked up to see everyone looking at him, fear and anger vivid in their eyes. “I’m shocked you didn’t kill me, considering the harm I had caused.” Koby said to Rory. “Believe me, I considered it. Even attempted it. You should be thanking Kai t
KILL OR BE KILLED
“That was so fast.” Luna said as she struggled to lift her sword. Everyone was now in awe of Koby. He wasn’t a mindless creature like the shoggoths that were easy to cut down. He was a fully functional human being that was now hunting them after they were already tired out. “Hit him with Resonance, Rory.” Zara shouted. With a clap of his palms, Rory created the sound wave that caused pain to those nearby but didn’t faze Koby. Resonance couldn’t penetrate the dark aura surrounding him. Rushing towards Rory with a ghost step, Koby tried to hack at him but is blocked again. “You’re not getting me that easily.” Rory said smirking. Koby let out a grin before using his second hatchet to strike again but it was narrowly avoided by Rory, as he tried to keep distance between them. Just as Koby was about to move, earthen rocks covered is body. It had been cast by Clifford. “Is someone going to kill him?” Clifford shouted. “Coming through.” Rory announced jumping in to slice Koby’s
THE MANSION 3
In a dark void, Koby floated around before regaining consciousness. “Am I dead?” He asked himself as he felf himself and the way around the void. “This is supposed to be my incarnate?” A loud voice boomed across the void. “Pathetic.” The voice said with disgust. Fear trickled down Koby’s spine as he looked around. “Who’s there?” He finally summoned up courage to ask. “Who do you think?” the voice chuckled. “If you’re going to kill me, make it quick. Don’t keep me in suspense.” Koby said. “The only good thing about you is your hate. You have an innate hatred for your own existence.” The voice continued as though, Koby had not said anything. “What do you know about me?” Koby said now annoyed at this being that was trying to read him. “In your entire lifetime, you have been beset with problems that has made you to hate existence itself. The last time I saw that type of hate was from myself.” Just then two ghostly eyes and a smile appeared in the void. “What are you?” Koby asked
