In a dark void, Koby floated around before regaining consciousness.
“Am I dead?” He asked himself as he felf himself and the way around the void. “This is supposed to be my incarnate?” A loud voice boomed across the void. “Pathetic.” The voice said with disgust. Fear trickled down Koby’s spine as he looked around. “Who’s there?” He finally summoned up courage to ask. “Who do you think?” the voice chuckled. “If you’re going to kill me, make it quick. Don’t keep me in suspense.” Koby said. “The only good thing about you is your hate. You have an innate hatred for your own existence.” The voice continued as though, Koby had not said anything. “What do you know about me?” Koby said now annoyed at this being that was trying to read him. “In your entire lifetime, you have been beset with problems that has made you to hate existence itself. The last time I saw that type of hate was from myself.” Just then two ghostly eyes and a smile appeared in the void. “What are you?” Koby asked again. “It does not matter for now. Let me in and I’ll help you survive the world that the supreme beings have laid out for you.” The voice offered. “The typical deal with the devil “ Koby laughed. “You don’t seem to have a problem with it.” The voice observed. “If you want my soul, why not just start with that.” Koby shrugged. “Your soul is of no meaning to me. I just want to take a look inside your anger.” “Why?” “Fate won’t allow me to take your soul.” “I don’t understand.” Koby said. “Your time is ticking. You’re on death’s door, young one. You need to decide now.” The voice stated. “If I let you do what you want, what do I get in return?” Koby asked. “That all depends on you, young one. You can either have it all or you can have nothing.” “I won’t accept you if you can’t even give me a clear answer.” Koby said arching his brows in annoyance. “Then you’ll die.” “So be it.” Koby declared. He was trying to bargain with this voice and it seemed like the voice needed him so he had something to bargain for. All that hope was shattered by the laugh the voice gave out. It was so loud that Koby had to still his nerves as he was already spooked. “Do you think, your death will be the end of it? Your friends will die, close acquaintances made to suffer until you’re inevitably alone. I can wait for another incarnate, while you’ll just be another fleeting memory. No matter how you look it, you lose.” The voice boomed as it flooded Koby with visions. Kai being impaled with a staff, James on his knees with swords sticking out of his back. Raya with her neck slit open and Rachael with her heart torn out. He was then showed a valley with a lot of bodies and birds eating up the bodies. “This can be what you make it or you can change it entirely.” “What do you want from me?” Koby cried out as the influx of emotions hit him “Stop running from what you’re meant to be, young one. Accept what you are.” “If I stop running, everyone is going to leave me behind.” Koby said as he was transformed to a younger version of himself. “Run away? Who’s running? Running where?”- the voice boomed and after a little pause screamed out-“ Why would I run?!” At that moment, Koby felt his body move. It was hot like a furnace. He felt it all but couldn’t control his limbs. He watched as he stood up with his hatchet, letting out a dark aura and then he dashed into the crowd of shoggoths, slicing them off one after the other. The shoggoths came after him in hordes but his body made quick work of them. Slowly, Koby started to lose consciousness. Seeing only red, as he drowned in a red pool of water, into the darkness, drowning out the noise. It felt so warm and peaceful. At the front lines, while fighting everyone had started to notice the number of shoggoths heading upstairs dwindling. Glancing downstairs, Zara saw Koby fighting off the shoggoths, a mysterious aura about him. “I see Koby down there fighting.” She spotted to the rest of the crew. “Koby!” Kai said upon seeing him fighting off shoggoths. “I don’t think he can hear you.” Rory said while cutting down a shoggoth. “Let’s push forward and help him.” James said as he zoomed in slashing two shoggoths in one go. Everyone’s morale seemed to have been lifted as they fought with renewed vigor. Giving Koby some support, Kai fired arrows at the shoggoths targeting Koby and then jumped in with Koby as he helped fight off the shoggoths by Koby’s side. Seeing as the amount of shoggoths upstairs was few in number, Rory looked at Zara. “Combine your Turbulence with me.” He said running ahead. “Alright.” She said running behind. “Sonic Boom.” He sent the shockwaves, pushing the shoggoths off and dealing damage to most. Almost instantly, Zara performed her spell. “Turbulence.” The shockwaves from Rory’s earlier attack spread the fire wildly as it successfully pushed most of the shoggoths downstairs. Everyone finally claimed the upstairs region back and started heading downstairs to fight along with Koby and Kai. With the combined forces of everyone, they were able to push back the shoggoths, before long the timer was on five minutes and the shoggoths started retreating into the woods surrounding the mansion. At the end of the time limit, all shoggoths had disappeared. As everyone rejoiced at their victory, James rushed towards Koby, hugging him. “We thought you were dead, Koby.” He said. Koby opened his eyes revealing black eyes that put fear in everyone. In a flash, he used his fist to slam James unto the ground with such force that it caused a small crater, leaving James coughing up blood. “I don’t think that’s Koby.” Rory said readying his dagger. “James, you alright? What’s wrong with you?” Kai said as he rushed towards Koby and James. In the blink of an eye, Koby blitzes Kai, striking him in the gut with a straight which sent him flying. “He’s a possessed shoggoth.” Someone from the crowd screamed out as everyone readied their weapons but they were too exhausted to do anything. Before anyone could move, Koby blitzes Rory, hitting him with a low blow, but it was blocked just in time by Rory but he was still sent flying from the force of the punch. “It’s just one person.” Someone shouted as everyone attacked. Summoning his hatchet, Koby swung his right hand beheading three men that tried to attack him first.Latest Chapter
THE SERPENT
Jumping upwards, Koby drew his hatchets to strike but the serpent was too fast for it's size —twisting midair it dodged his blow and slammed him aside with it's massive body, flinging him from the trees and unto the ground with a brutal thud. “Koby!!” Kai shouted, eyes wide as he saw Koby crash violently to the ground. Looking down, he saw Koby coughing violently. He had survived the fall — it seemed like he had instinctively channeled his aura around his body thereby cushioning the impact— but he was dazed. But he had drawn more than just the serpent's attention. From the shadows, shrieking shoggoths swarmed him. Growling, Koby spun with his hatchets cutting down the first wave in a flurry of steel and rage. Panting, he looked up, gritting his teeth. “ Don't worry about me.” With those words, Kai didn't hesistate, readying his how and fired a shot at the serpent. As expected, it dodged— and used it's momentum to launch at Kai. He jumped out of the way just in time for James t
SMOKE IN THE FAR EAST
“Finally, they give us rewards for quests." Kai said. "If this is really like a game, aren't we supposed to get coins for the kills we made so far?” James reasoned. "Maybe we have been receiving..." Koby drawled on as he sat on a tree branch and activated his windows. At the bottom left corner he saw it, the coin balance. He had accumulated fifty thousand coins. He guessed that they were from the shoggoths they had killed so he turned to the others. "Check your windows for your coin balances." They opened their windows as suggested by Koby and confirmed their coin balances. They could also view their available skills and equipments in inventory. "You'd think that there would be an evaluation of strength, speed, and the rest." James observed. "I suppose it's going to be easy leveling up as we thought." Kai said. "Let's take note of the weapons we have." Koby said as everyone gathered together. "We all have weapons besides Raya." James confirmed. "It seems the system di
THE FOREST OF SHOGGOTHS
“Are you crazy?” Kai shouted at Koby.“You do remember that the shoggoths come from the forest?” James asked.“But they don’t attack until the designated time is up.” Koby replied.“Yup, it’s official. You’re crazy. I need to sit down.” Kai said taking a seat as he held his head.“Did you finally lose it?” James asked“ Look, if I stay here for the next wave of shoggoths, it may be my last.” Koby explained.“How so?” Kai asked.“I just killed six people, there will be others waiting for the right moment to kill me. They already see me as a monster.”“ Still you can’t …”“Can’t what? You want me to stay for the next wave? I assure you that I am surely going to get stabbed in the back or worse, something or someone could target one of you to get to me. Don’t you watch movies?” Koby tried to reason with Kai.“Are you seriously comparing movies to reality?” James asked amazed.“I like to think that besides the exaggeration, there are some truths to be found in movies.”“What?”James said s
ABANDONMENT
Everyone tried to gather their strength while staring daggers at Koby who was trying to recollect himself with Kai and James by his side. Some had uttered their opposition to letting Koby stay alive, but none was bold enough to talk to Koby directly, because they were still afraid of him. “Kai,did I hurt anyone in my rampage?” Koby finally asked having had enough of the cold treatment everyone was giving him. “Well, technically…” “Don’t lie, tell me the truth. I can handle it.” Koby assured. Before Kai could answer , Rory came into the conversation. “Six people died, not many injured.”- he said to Koby-“ luckily the representatives kept you from killing more at the cost of their own lives.” Koby let out a heavy sigh, clearly disturbed. He looked up to see everyone looking at him, fear and anger vivid in their eyes. “I’m shocked you didn’t kill me, considering the harm I had caused.” Koby said to Rory. “Believe me, I considered it. Even attempted it. You should be thanking Kai t
KILL OR BE KILLED
“That was so fast.” Luna said as she struggled to lift her sword. Everyone was now in awe of Koby. He wasn’t a mindless creature like the shoggoths that were easy to cut down. He was a fully functional human being that was now hunting them after they were already tired out. “Hit him with Resonance, Rory.” Zara shouted. With a clap of his palms, Rory created the sound wave that caused pain to those nearby but didn’t faze Koby. Resonance couldn’t penetrate the dark aura surrounding him. Rushing towards Rory with a ghost step, Koby tried to hack at him but is blocked again. “You’re not getting me that easily.” Rory said smirking. Koby let out a grin before using his second hatchet to strike again but it was narrowly avoided by Rory, as he tried to keep distance between them. Just as Koby was about to move, earthen rocks covered is body. It had been cast by Clifford. “Is someone going to kill him?” Clifford shouted. “Coming through.” Rory announced jumping in to slice Koby’s
