Chapter 1

1. It All Started With A Useless Uber Driver!

Tyler was fast asleep on the couch when someone suddenly splashed a bucket of water on him!

Cold water drenched his face and body in one shock.

“Holy Jeez!” he yelled, springing to his feet in panic.

Standing before him, clutching the empty bucket with a stiff grip, was a woman. Her face cold, jaw tight, and eyes blazing with fury.

It was Gloria. His mother-in-law. Graceful at 48.

Before he could get a word out, she threw the bucket straight at him.

“You stupid man! You never get tired of being lazy!” she spat. “Look at the time. Almost 7 AM and you’re still here, sleeping your ass off like you own this house!”

Tyler didn’t say a word. Experience had taught him it was smarter to stay silent when Gloria was on a rampage. Arguing with her was like throwing punches at a tornado.

He turned to walk out of the room, but before he could take two steps, Gloria grabbed his shirt and dragged him back.

“Are you walking out on me?” she screamed, pushing him. “You imbecile! We picked you up from the street, cleaned you, made you look decent! And what do we get in return? Nothing! All you do is leech off my daughter’s income. You’re nothing but a damn liability!”

Tyler took a breath and finally spoke. “Rebecca is my wife, Mother. I’m doing everything I can to make sure she’s happy. You don’t have the right to call me a liability. I have a good-paying job.”

“A good-paying job?” Gloria laughed bitterly, tossing her hair back. “You mean that stupid Uber you drive every day, earning pennies? Is that what you call a job?”

Tyler stayed quiet again. He didn’t know what else to say. She wasn’t wrong. He was an Uber driver. That’s how he made ends meet. But it didn’t matter how hard he worked, people like Gloria never saw value in him. Not while he was still poor.

Six years ago, Tyler had nothing. No job. No family. No college degree. Just a guy from the streets, making a little money by helping travelers carry their luggage.

Then one Sunday morning changed everything.

He saw a young woman being attacked and didn’t think twice. He fought hard and saved her.

That woman was Rebecca Amore Cruz, heir to the Amore Empire.

She’d been searching for someone exactly like him. Not because he was special, but because he was easy to control. She didn’t want a man who was educated or had ambition. She wanted someone who wouldn’t interfere with her business.

According to her family’s rulebook, a female could only inherit the empire after marriage.

So, she made him an offer: $100,000 to marry her.

But Tyler refused the money. Not because he didn’t need it, but because he genuinely loved her.

They got married. She became the CEO of Amore Empire.

And from that moment on, everyone around her treated Tyler like trash. To them, he was just the guy from the street who wasn’t even worth a dollar.

But Tyler was determined to prove he was more than that.

He worked himself to the bone every day, cleaning, cooking, fixing things like a house servant. He used the little savings he had to buy a car and signed up as a full-time Uber driver.

For six long years, he drove endlessly, hoping that one day, Rebecca would finally be proud of him.

His thoughts came back as Gloria snapped her fingers in front of his face.

“Hello? Earth to Tyler!” she barked. “Your phone’s been ringing. I answered it. You’ve got a ride order by 7 PM tonight. Don’t mess it up. You hear me?”

Tyler blinked. Confused. Gloria never cared about his Uber rides, let alone reminded him of one. But he said nothing, went about tidying the house, made breakfast, and headed to work.

When he got to the Uber company’s headquarters to check in, something strange caught his eye.

At the entrance of the building, a large printed banner hung above the door. His picture was on it.

“Tyler Hudson. After Six Years!” it read.

He stared at it, unsure what it meant. Why was it there?

Still puzzled, he stepped into the reception.

The receptionist glanced up and waved lazily.

“Mr. Hudson, the manager wants to see you.”

Tyler frowned. “Me? The manager?”

“Yes,” she snapped, clearly irritated. “And don’t ask me to repeat myself. I don’t have time to waste on useless people like you.”

She turned her attention back to her computer, dismissing him like a stain.

Tyler didn’t react. He’d gotten used to this treatment. From the receptionist, from the staff, from nearly everyone. To them, he was nothing. Poor, irrelevant, disposable.

Some days, he even wondered if he was cursed. No matter how hard he worked, his account never rose above $100. His salary was $200 a month, but somehow, after expenses and deductions, it always dropped to $100.

And out of that $100, Gloria demanded $70 each month for rent.

He sighed. Thinking about it never helped. He made his way toward the manager’s office.

On the way, he overheard a few of his colleagues chatting behind his back.

“Well, whatever happens to him, he deserves it. He’s just a coward.”

“He’s the most useless person I’ve ever met,” another added. “He doesn’t even have parents. Stupid, worthless Tyler Hudson.”

He clenched his fists but forced himself to stay calm. Getting angry never helped. The last time he lost his temper… someone had died.

So, he kept walking. Quiet. Tense.

Just as he reached for the manager’s doorknob, someone stretched out a leg. He tripped and crashed hard to the floor.

Laughter exploded from behind him.

Tyler sat up, humiliated. This was routine. They always did this to humiliate him, and he would keep quiet. But today?

Today, something shifted inside him.

He stood up slowly, his eyes scanning the group. He pointed a finger at them, his voice low but sharp.

“Who did that? Who wanted me to fall?”

There was silence everywhere. Nobody responded to his inquiry.

Then he saw the shoe that had stuck out. Santos. The same guy who had always seen him as a threat, even though Tyler had never tried to compete.

Tyler walked up to him, anger brimming just beneath the surface.

“You did this, didn’t you? You always make fun of me. If you have a problem with me, stop hiding. Face me like a man.”

Santos’s smile disappeared immediately. “Did you just talk to me like that? Don’t you have any respect for your elders?”

“I’ll let this slide today, Santos,” Tyler warned, pointing at him. “But the next time you pull this crap…”

He turned to walk away but Santos grabbed his arm and elbowed him in the face.

Another man jumped in, dragged Tyler by the hair, and punched him in the stomach.

“Ughh!” Tyler groaned.

“Come on, guys, hit him harder!” Santos shouted, like a man in his twenties though he was forty-two.

The rest joined in, pounding him. Tyler spat blood, trying to shield himself from the blows.

Two men grabbed his arms and stretched them wide like a cross. Santos stepped forward and slammed a kick into his stomach.

“Arghhh!” Tyler groaned, barely holding in his rage.

Then another punch. He took it.

But just as Santos raised his fist for a third punch, Tyler snapped.

He jerked his arms free from the two men, spun around, and grabbed Santos’s wrist mid-air.

Santos struggled to break free, but Tyler’s grip tightened. Tighter and tighter.

“Ourghhhhhh!” Santos began to groan in pain. It was as if some kind of iron grabbed his hand that he couldn't break away from.

Right then, the manager’s office door swung open.

Tyler released Santos immediately.

Before he could speak, the manager threw an envelope at him.

“I don’t care what happened, Tyler Hudson. I don’t want to hear your story either. Today’s your last check-in at this organization. You’re FIRED!”
