Quest for survival in the virtual realm

After years of torture from the suns ultraviolet rays, humans went into a brainstorm, searching for methods to live past that tragic era that counted in thousands of death. The government came together promising a huge reward to the people or person to create a counter for the deadly situation.

Seeing this as an opportunity many researchers came together working day and night to create something to guard the human race from the sun, and finally the creation of one known as the 'VOID' had once again extended mans reign on earth giving them countless more years ahead.

With the creation of the void mankind continued making a great breakthrough in terms of technology and more.

But for how long will the void last? a question that lingered in the minds of many...

5 months ago...

Inside an office, two figures could be seen. The two seemed to be in some conversation.

"Claven, don't you think this is the best idea. If we can somehow get the information inside the device then it would return to us our past glory, everything Solace stole from us" one of the men said, sitting on a comfortably large office chair. He had a long black hair reaching the nape of his neck, a rectangular shaped face with a sharp-pointed chin which made him look fierce, his thick bushy mustache couldn't be hidden either as it was showing visibly on his face.

He was wearing a purple long sleeve shirt with a pink tie knotted to it and on top, a white coloured suite with a plane white trouser to match.

"Jake you should think clearly and not based on past grudges, what if the information is actually just a useless project they both decided to toss away? How certain are you that this would give you what you want?" The other asked as he stood close to the glass wall, looking down to the crowd of people below him, all going about their daily activities.

Comparing the two men one would probably think the other was older as this guy looked to be far more handsome and younger.

He had a raven black hair cleanly swept to the side which gave him a distinct look from the other, an oval shaped face, pointed nose and a sharp chin.

He was wearing a white long sleeve shirt that had a red tie knotted to it and was tucked into his plane black trouser.

He took a sip of the glass cup of liquor he held in his hand as he spoke, seemingly looking disinterested, which also annoyed the latter.

"It can't be am very certain am sur..." Jake retorted but was cut off before he could complete his sentence

"If it's like you say, then why would Solace of all people dump it? you're not thinking rationally, please spare me my precious time I'd like to do other things" said Claven walking over to the office table and placing the glass of liquor he held.

Suddenly.

*BAM*

"I don't want to think rationally anymore, what did that help me achieve?! Huh tell me Claven!; said Jake slamming his hands on the table, anger clearly visible on his blocked shaped face.

"After all our hard work, only to get the prize stolen by him, what were we then, the spares? please Claven spare me the whole talk of rationality, if he was being rational he would have thought of the effects his actions would bring forth.

"I don't know if you're really feeling the same pain as me but you should know how much it hurts to see your own efforts being claimed by someone else" he said angrily as he looked towards Claven who had his head tilted downward.

Raising his head upwards to stare at the clear white ceiling, then looking towards Jake he gave him a death stare.

"How dare you! do you think you're the only one feeling that way! uh Jake! what do you take me for? I poured in my time my life for a project that was then taken by someone else, tell me now Jake what contributions did you make to that project that can be compared to mine.

"And here you're going on and on about how painful it is, do you know how many times I stayed wake, running around, fetching files and documentary's, researching.

" Don't be a fool, I go crazy each time I look up in the sky to see something I worked my ass off for that got taken by someone else. Jake, get out of my office"

"I'm so..."

"Jake I didn't ask you that, I don't need your appologies, can you just do the needful like I said, LEAVE MY OFFICE!" he shouted out as he walked towards the glass wall fuming in anger.

Jake quietly stood up walked towards the door which swung open automatically.

[Thank you for visiting] a sweet angelic AI voice rang out.

"I'm sorry Claven, but if you reconsider my offer you can give me a call" he said giving a deep sigh as he left the scene.

Outside the office, Jake walked towards his black limo with heavy steps as though stomping the ground in anger.

'That idiot he really doesn't know what this would help is achieve, if he did he wouldn't be making all this fuse' he thought

Entering into the limo, he sat with his hands folded deep in thoughts as he pondered;

'He's the only one with the capability of doing what I want, I doubt anyone else can..'

"Hey Jake"

"Jake!" deep in thoughts he could hear the annoying voice calling out his name.

"What is it!, Timothy? can't you see I'm busy" said Jake seemingly annoyed by the latter.

"Oh that's rare, so tell me what happened you don't look so good" The one named Timothy asked, he had his legs crossed on the car seat playing with his curly black hair. He had an oval shaped face with a pointed chin and a freckle close to his left nostril.

His eyes were brightly colored brown which gave him a bland look. He was wearing a black tailor made sleeveless jacket with a white long sleeve shirt and plane ash trouser.

"Get your legs off the seat, you're leaving dirt's on it!" said Jake with a vein bulging on his forehead.

"Hey hey don't vent the anger on me I did nothing" he replied with a chuckle, "I guess the meeting didn't turn out as planned" he asked

" Claven just isn't looking at the bright side of the picture, if the information is really useful it'd help us and the rest of humanity as well, that title isn't fitting for the likes of Solace, he doesn't deserve it one bit..."Jake kept talking without giving the other a chance to keep up as he was talking quite fast.

"Don't you think it's a good idea to just test it out and see?" Jake asked seemingly unaware that the other wasn't keeping up.

Giving a wryly smile Timothy replied " Yeah, I guess" still uncertain of what Jake was whining about "Wouldn't it just be nice if people could listen to me at least for once" said jake in frustration.

'not when you talk this way' Timothy thought..

"I just want..." Jake was left midway into his sentence as his phone rang out loudly.

"Hello, who's..."

"I've accepted the offer, come meet me tomorrow let's discuss"

A large smile spread across his face as he heard this few words.

"Solace! you're now going to feel just what I felt when you back stabbed us all" he said with a fierce glint in his eyes.

"Hey stop that, it looks weird" said Timothy getting goosebumps the look look Jake had on his face.
