Chapter 007 - Announcement

As the event commenced, the atmosphere shifted. Conversation simmered to a low murmur. The light dimmed.

The host, a young lady, took the stage, her eyes lit with excitement as she spoke. “Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to tonight’s event. We are here to announce our new five partners.”

Gasps rippled across the room, all eyes were fixated on the stage, as the murmurs died down.

“First, I will call on the CEO of the company to announce the five selected companies for future collaboration with Crystal Eagle.”

Olivia smiled as she took the stage; the guests stood and applauded her entrance, then sat back to listen to the announcement.

A few of the men had their eyes on her alluring beauty, and her figure, that they couldn’t concentrate on the event.

She took a deep breath, as she announced. “As you all know, each year we pick five companies that align with our company’s vision and reward them with a partnership deal. So this year, I have taken my time to do the same.”

A ripple of excitement swept across the faces of the guests, their phones raised to record the moment.

Olivia allowed the people to take their time before she made any announcement.

“Darling, I can’t wait to hear our company’s name. Have you called your mom?” Livinus asked.

“Yes, I did. She is waiting for the announcement before she decides what to do next about your promotion.”

Livinus’ face changed, but he tried to mask the tension within him. Ellie’s mom had told him he would only get promoted if they could secure a partnership with Crystal Eagle and he had worked hard over the last few years to make this happen.

Meanwhile, Andrew stood far away watching Livinus and Ellie with a raised brow. He couldn’t wait to see their reactions and watch Ellie eat her poop to challenge him.

Ellie has tightened her grip around her husband, “Don’t worry the deal is ours already. I believe in you.” She said softly, then narrowed her eyes toward Andrew who let out a small smirk.

Her face turned red, and she hissed as she focused her attention on Olivia the moment a black card was brought forth.

She cleared her throat and leaned forward. “Let’s begin with the announcement.”

Tension engulfed the atmosphere, around twenty companies that had applied were waiting to know the outcome.

The hall fell into deep silence, and some gripped their thighs in anticipation.

“And the first company on my list is Pandora Corporation. Please hold your applause and congratulations until the end of my announcement.”

The representatives from Pandora Corporation lit up with excitement.

“The second is Juno Tech solutions.”

Their representatives grinned.

Ellie and Livinus grip hands, “We are next.”

“Third is Aida logistics.”

Their expression shifted, at that moment they sat straight waiting for the next result hoping it would be them so they could celebrate.

“Fourth is Zukimo Enterprise.”

Livinus held his breath, “The final name, this is it. The moment we have been waiting for.”

“And the final name for today is.” Olivia paused her eyes now scanning the faces of those around her. There was deadbeat silence.

Ellie closed her eyes and gripped her husband’s hand tightly.

“The last name for today is Ivory Ocean Media.”

“What?” Livinus’ jaw dropped with disbelief, he slowly turned his head to look around, and back at Olivia who was smiling at the stage.

Ellie smiled vanished and her face turned red, she loosen her grip and shook her head in disagreement.

“No, this is impossible. There must have been a mistake. We are better than all of these companies that have been mentioned.” She shouted as she couldn’t hold the frustration and anger within her.

The representatives of the companies that got the deal stood up and expressed themselves by hugging and clapping their hands in excitement.

Andrew from his position smiled when he noticed the change in their expression, he knew it was time to make sure Ellie took responsibility, but he sat down waiting for the moment to make her pay.

Livinus took his phone, dialled a number and unfortunately, the line wasn’t connecting. He kept trying but it was still the same.

Then suddenly, an announcement was made. “Another report to everyone, our development manager, Mr Silas Jerome has been sacked for trying to manipulate the results. He has been arrested and if you have any business with him, I am sorry you can’t contact him.”

When Livinus heard that his heart sank deeply, The same Silas had taken two million dollars and a gift from him assuring him that he would make sure they get listed amongst the top five companies.

“It’s finished!” Livinus said. “Silas tricked me.”

Ellie frowned, “What happened? How did you get tricked?”

Livinus ran a hand through his hair. “I paid Silas to help me secure a deal, he even sent me a screenshot of our name being among the top candidates, but he didn’t.”

“You paid someone!” Ellie asked coldly. “How much?”

Livinus was mute for a moment, he looked at his wife’s angry face.

“Say something, how much did you pay him?”

“Two million dollars, and I got him a new car,” Livinus replied in a low tone.

Truth be told, Silas had no authority to modify the list, nor see it. But he had sneaked into Olivia’s office to change the list, but was caught by her secretary and when he was arrested he’d explained everything.

Ellie’s jaw tightened, “You mean you gave someone two million dollars and a new car just to secure a deal. And this happened.”

Before Livinus could explain he got slapped across the face by his wife. This left everyone stunned.

A heavy silence fell across the hall.

“You are shameless.”

I did this because of you and…”

She cut him short with another slap across his face.

“Don’t you dare. Why didn’t you tell me before now?” She spat.

Murmurs rippled across the room as they watched the scene unfold between husband and wife.

“This family is shameless, so they had paid someone to help them secure the deal.”

“I didn’t know The Martins’ family would bribe someone. They should be arrested alongside Silas.” A woman whispered.

“Who knows how many people they had bribed to get to where they are?”

Ellie heard their words and felt frustrated and immediately attacked one of the men who had commented.

Immediately, several uniformed people rushed forward to drag her away.

Ellie wasn’t just frustrated about losing or what her husband did but she thought about her challenge with Andrew.

How could she do what she had said?

After they had been separated, Ellie turned to her husband and smacked his head with her handbag.

Livinus screamed, “Darling, I’m sorry.” He said with sadness in his eyes.

“Take them out of here, I don’t want them to create any scene.” One of the Vip members screamed.

At that moment, another voice cut through the hall.

“No, they aren’t going anywhere. We have unfinished business to settle.”
