Chapter 001 - Visitor

“You have a visitor.” The warden informed Andrew.

The prison visitor’s room gate swung open as Andrew walked inside.

He couldn’t help but smile, that he had a few hours left before leaving the prison after four years. His heart swelled in excitement knowing he would spend time with Amelia after his release.

“Don’t tell me you can’t wait for me to be released,” he said smiling.

However, Amelia’s expression was cold as she slammed a folder on the desk. “We need to divorce, Andrew.”

For a moment Andrew paused.

Andrew furrowed his brow as he whispered, “What are you talking about? If it’s a prank, you should stop it. I will be out in a few hours.”

“It's not a prank, Andrew.” She was holding a folder in both hands, her expression was the kind that would tell you something was fishy.

Her chin lifted slightly, her lips pressed together watching Andrew.

Andrew's eyes narrowed slightly, tension crossing his brow. “Amelia, What is this?”

She didn't hesitate; immediately, she set the folder open and thrust it toward him. “This is the divorce agreement, Don't tell me the walls have affected your sight and sense at the same time. Sign this.”

He looked at the divorce papers, his name was already printed only waiting for him to append his signature.

Andrew was still confused, this wasn't supposed to be how he had planned his life with Amelia. With just a few hours left, it was supposed to be a moment of celebration for both of them.

“Tell me you are joking.” He said raising his brow slowly to look at her. His expression was flat and unimpressive.

“Do I look like a prankster to you?” She snapped.

Four years ago, Andrew had taken the blame for her sister, she had run over someone while she was driving home drunk.

Her parents worried about their daughter, had begged Andrew, and knew he had loved Amelia and would do anything.

Unknown to him that Amelia had other plans, that night while they were making out, she had secretly placed a camera and asked him to continue even if she pleaded for him to stop.

Amelia had used the video against him, saying if he loved her he should take the blame and everything about that night would be hidden under the carpet but if he didn't she would send the video and he would be locked up.

Andrew accepted taking the blame for her sister, and was locked up. Amelia apologised, and even told him she had deleted the video. Andrew forgave her and he served every single day without complaining. And now she stood before him on the day of his release to sign a divorce paper.

“The truth is we are no longer compatible with each other, my company is about to go public and I won't want people to find out that my husband is an ex- convict. It will stain my reputation.”

Andrew looked at her with a dark expression, his jaw tightened.

Did she really call him an ex- convict? How could she?

Had she forgotten how he had taken the blame for her sister despite what happened?

Andrew let out a short chuckle, “Did you just call me an ex- convict. Have you forgotten that I took the blame for your sister?”

“Don't go there, Andrew.” Amelia pulled out her phone and played him the same video of them some years ago, the same video she had used to manipulate him.

Andrew felt his heart pierced with a knife, “So you never deleted it.”

“Why would I?” she countered. “I'm trying my best to make both of us agree, Andrew. You sign the Divorce agreement, and you get compensated fairly.”

She added, “You get $20 million and a new house, that is enough for you to start all over again.”

Andrew stared at her with a cold gaze, then he smiled.

“I don't need your money, Amelia. I just can't trust you anymore.”

“Do you even hear yourself,” she said, her voice laced with menace. “I'm trying to make you a fair deal, and not act wicked. You walk away with something at least and not empty-handed. You should be lucky. I don't want you to spend four years here. I would have sent this video to the appropriate department and you know what will happen. Stop acting when you can't even stand against me.”

“Why are you doing all of this?” He asked.

She smirked. “I have found someone better, he has done something big for my company, and we are getting married soon.”

Andrew furrowed his brow in annoyance, “One last question. Why did you agree to marry me in the first place?”

“I thought you were rich when I first met you that night at the hospital. Never knew you weren't.”

Andrew looked at her for a moment, he looked at the woman he had loved for the last four years.

He pulled out a necklace from his pocket, which he had kept since he got to Prison. “Since you want a divorce, I don't think I will be needing it anymore.” He tossed it on the table.

“What's this? It's not mine, I didn't remember giving you any necklace. This looks cheap.”

Andrew looked confused, he had gotten it from her the night she saved him and now she claimed it wasn't hers.

Then who owns it?

He reached for the pen, signed and pushed the papers away from him.

Amelia's eyes stayed on Andrew, she smiled as she watched him sign the papers.

“I will make sure you and your family will pay for this.” He said with a serious but furious tone. “Take your money and leave.”

Without hesitation, he walked out of the waiting room.

She smiled as she glanced at the divorce agreement he had signed, and then she grabbed the folder before leaving and shut the door.

Back in his cell, Andrew sat quietly with his mind pounding fast.

None of the other prisoners dared to provoke him. They had expected him to return with a smile, so they could host a send off party for him, but what they saw was a furious and heartbroken Andrew.

At this point, the ex-minister of finance, Noah Clark, who was also imprisoned, came forward.

“I told you she doesn’t deserve someone like you.” He said, patting Andrew's back, “My offer is still on the table; you can get your revenge on her and everyone who has hurt you.”

Andrew swallowed hard; he didn’t look at the man sitting next to him, but then he thought about the offer the old man had made to him some days ago.

After a long silence, just when Noah was about to take a step, suddenly Andrew voiced out.

“I will accept it!”

Noah glanced at him for a moment, “What did you say?”

“I will accept your offer.”
