Chapter 5

Claire's head snapped to the side from the force of the blow. She instinctively covered her cheek, her eyes widening in shock.

“I—I wasn't seducing anyone ma. Why would I do that? Please, you must be mistaken ma”

“Stop lying, I saw you bitch. You smiled so sweetly at him! Look at those teeth of yours. Did you think I wouldn't notice what you were doing?”

Claire's eyes reddened from the humiliation. “Ma'am, I was simply greeting him professionally. It's normal for me to smile at clients. I even smiled at you when I greeted you.”

The woman's face became even uglier. “Drop the act! You think I'm stupid? . Think I can't see right through that coy smile you gave my husband, acting all sweet and innocent, you bitch…I'm going to make you pay!”.

Jasper was stunned by what was happening. He immediately walked toward Claire, but the moment he got closer and looked at the woman's face, recognition flashed through his eyes.

He knew her.

The woman, Emily was the wife of the president of Grand Horizon Bank, the city's largest financial institution. In his previous life, Jasper had heard plenty of stories about her. She was once popular.

Before marrying into wealth, she had worked in the adult entertainment industry, literally a stripper during her young years. She had eventually married the bank president through what many considered a fortunate coincidence.

But despite marrying into wealth, she had never escaped the insecurity buried deep inside her. She wanted to hide her past.

As she grew older, that insecurity only became worse. Her jealousy and paranoia gradually twisted her personality until she became notorious for harassing any beautiful woman who came near her husband.

“Ma'am….I…”.

“Oh shut up!” Emily screeched in sheer disgust. But then, as if struck by a sudden thought, a flicker of cruel amusement crossed her face.

She pointed at the floor. “Kneel down and apologize to me!, then I would let this go without escalating it”

Claire's eyes widened.

The surrounding employees were equally stunned. Nobody expected the woman to make such an outrageous demand, yet no one dared step forward.

The woman stepped forward aggressively. “Did you not hear me? I said get down on your knees in front of everyone and apologize out loud, and I just might forgive you for seducing my husband. You had no problem being completely shameless a minute ago. Why have an attack of conscience and pride now?”.

Claire’s mind went completely blank.

No matter what choice she made, she was bound to be fired. Even if she truly knelt in public and apologized, her reputation would be ruined beyond repair, and no other company would ever dare hire her again.

After crisis had struck her family, she swallowed her pain, quickly adapting to her fall from a pampered heiress to an ordinary office worker. She had worked herself to the bone at this company, even signing agreements to take on multiple roles—all just to scrape together enough money to keep her crumbling family afloat.

Yet why, even after all this, was fate still playing such cruel jokes on her? Why did it have to let this foolish, arrogant socialite humiliate her like this?!

Claire forced a faint, strained smile. "Ma'am, I understand how you feel, but please let me—"

"Still making excuses?!" Emily’s eyes burned with fury. Lunging forward, she grabbed Claire and kicked viciously at the back of her knees, hell-bent on forcing her down. "I said, kneel!"

That kick shattered Claire's last shred of endurance. All the pent-up humiliation, rage, and bitter resentment she had suppressed for days finally erupted in that single moment.

The crowd immediately gasped. Nobody had expected her to talk back. She was now completely doomed. Because they understand what she was capable of.

“How dare you talk back to me!”. The woman angrily said and raised her hand again and swung it toward Claire's face.

But before the slap could land, another hand suddenly caught her wrist.

The woman's eyes widened. Jasper stood between them, his expression icy.

He tightened his grip and sneered.

“How does a woman who once made a living seducing men, dancing naked, have the nerve to casually accuse a decent woman of seducing her husband?”.

The woman's face instantly flushed crimson, her humiliation turning into uncontrollable rage. What Jasper had just exposed was the darkest chapter of her past, something she considered an absolute taboo, especially in a crowded public place.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” she shrieked, yanking against his grip. “Who the hell are you? How dare you lied, slander me like this?”

Jasper released her wrist and calmly straightened his sleeve. “Why are you so angry?” he asked. “I'm only talking about something that happened years ago.”

“You are fucking lying!. I never do that, and who the heck are you, one of her customers who she had also seduce”

“Am I lying?” A faint smile appeared on Jasper's face. “I remember sneaking into a nightclub when I was younger. I was too young to actually become a customer, but I still remember seeing you there.”

His words immediately caused an uproar among the people nearby.

“What?”

“I've heard rumors about her past, but I never thought they were real.”

The woman's entire body trembled.Jasper continued without showing the slightest fear.

“Back then, you were quite popular. Who would've thought that years later, you would somehow marry the president of Grand Horizon Bank?”

“You—!”

“And now you've completely transformed yourself into a respectable wealthy woman. What a remarkable success story.”

The woman's face twisted with humiliation. “You bastard! Shut your mouth!”

Jasper chuckled. “Unfortunately, I can't even visit that old place anymore. I suppose that's something I should regret. I never got the chance to spend a single cent there.”

The surrounding crowd immediately erupted into whispers.

“Is he seriously saying she used to work in that kind of place?”

“Then how did she marry the bank president?”

“This is getting insane.”

The woman could no longer tolerate another second.

“Security!” Her shriek echoed through the entire lobby. “Throw this bastard out! Right now!”

Several security guards immediately rushed over, but they stopped when they recognized who was involved.

They exchanged nervous glances. One of them quickly stepped into the elevator to get the husband before things got worse.

The remaining guards surrounded the woman.

“Madam, please calm down.”

“Please don't make this any bigger than it already is.”

“Calm down?” she screamed. “He humiliated me in front of everyone, and you want me to calm down?”

Her eyes suddenly landed on Claire.The fury in them became even more frightening.

“Fine.”

She shoved past the guards.

“If you won't deal with him, I'll deal with that woman myself!”

Claire instinctively stepped backward.

The woman pointed at Jasper.

“You know exactly who I am. You know who my husband is and what he could do? You don't have the courage to touch me.”

Jasper's expression remained indifferent.

The woman sneered. She suddenly lunged toward Claire, raising her hand.

“You shameless slut, I will show you your client here won't do anything!”. She wanted to slap her again.

SMACK!

A thunderous slap echoed through the lobby. Jasper's palm had already struck her across the face. The woman's body spun from the force before she crashed heavily onto the floor.

The entire lobby went silent.

Nobody moved as they stared at what just happened.
