Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

Lein’s eyes snapped open to a world that wasn’t supposed to exist. A cold wind cut across his skin like a serrated blade.

The scent of wet soil, rotting leaves, and distant monster breath filled his lungs. Something slimy crawled beneath him, worms, dozens of them writhing under his bare back.

His vision flickered, trying to adjust to the dim morning light filtering through a canopy of black, twisted trees.

This wasn’t a hospital. This wasn’t the gaming lounge he collapsed in. And this definitely wasn’t the afterlife he imagined. He knew this place. He knew it too well. “No… impossible.”

His voice cracked, barely audible. His throat felt raw, as if sand had been stuffed down it. He pushed himself up, but a sharp sting shot through every bone.

His arms trembled from the simple effort of rising. His body was thin… too thin. Starved. Weak. Pathetic. He forced himself to look at his hands, and the world fell apart.

They were tiny. Bony. Almost childlike. Covered in grime and ash. The fingernails were chipped and blackened as if they’d been scraping stone for days.

Lein choked. “No. No, no, no, don’t tell me.”

A cold chime rang in the air.

[System initializing…]

[Current Form Identified: Lowest Creature – “Shadeworm Thrall”]

[Rank: F-Minus]

[Stats: Laughable]

[Skill Slots: Zero]

[Talents: None]

[Evolution Potential: Nearly Zero]

His heart twisted. He knew these notifications. He knew this ranking. He knew this form.

He was inside Malivic World.

The game that drained his life. The game he mastered. The game he died playing.

He had resurrected inside it,  but not as a player, not as a hero, not even as a monster with potential.

He came back as the worst thing the game could offer.

A Shadeworm Thrall.

A creature meant to be hunted, bullied, beaten, enslaved, sacrificed, and destroyed by literally everything and everyone.

He swallowed back the rising panic. “Of all forms… this? Really?”

His voice shook. His breath trembled. His pride shattered. The universe could have given him anything.

A swordsman. A mage. A beast. Even a talking mushroom would’ve been better. But this?

This was lower than worthless. A rustle broke through the trees. Lein stiffened.

The sound grew louder, footsteps, hurried, careless. Not a monster’s. Not quiet enough. No weight distribution. A player. His heart hammered. “Please not them… not now.”

But fate didn’t care what he wanted.

Three silhouettes emerged through the twisted fog, armor gleaming with arrogant polish. Their footsteps slowed when they spotted him, then their lips curled, almost simultaneously.

A young man with red-streaked hair laughed. “Oi, look at this trash. Never seen one so pathetic.”

Another, taller, bulkier, kicked a stone toward Lein. It struck his ribs, sending him sprawling. Pain shot through his weak body, forcing a gasp out of him.

The third, a woman with violet twin-tails and predatory eyes, smirked. “It’s a Shadeworm Thrall! Those barely spawn anymore. Rotten luck for you, little bug.” Her smile sharpened. “Kill it?”

Red-hair scoffed. “Kill it? Why waste the chance? I haven’t bullied one of these in ages.”

They approached in a triangle, trapping him.

Lein’s pulse quickened. He tried crawling back, but his limbs refused to obey. His body wasn’t built for fighting, or running. His stats were microscopic. His existence was a joke.

Violet hair crouched and gripped his jaw, forcing him to look into her eyes. “You look almost human,” she whispered. “How unfortunate for you.”

Then the slap came. Hard. Sharp. Humiliating. His cheek stung as the echo rang through the forest.

Another slap. Then another. Each one harsher than the last. He could do nothing. No defense. No dignity.

The taller player lifted his boot and stomped on Lein’s back. Pain tore through him as ribs strained dangerously. Lein coughed, wheezing, but the stomp only pressed harder.

“Pathetic creature,” the man spat. “You exist just to entertain us.”

Lein’s vision blurred. He gritted his teeth. He tried to endure. But the cruelty didn’t stop there.

Red-hair swung his staff, the tip buzzing with low-level magic, and jabbed it into Lein’s side.

A crack. A flash of agony. Another painful reminder he was weaker than a newborn infant. The system chimed weakly.

[HP: Critical]

[Warning: Host body extremely fragile]

Violet hair’s grin widened. “Let’s see how loud it screams.”

“Don’t,” Lein rasped. “Please.”

She lifted her heel, placed it on his skull, and pressed down. Lein saw stars. Everything tilted. His breath wheezed. His dignity crumbled.

He felt his skull beginning to compress. His eyes began to blur at the edges.

He was going to die. Again. Pathetically. Worthlessly. Violet hair leaned closer, whispering: “Your suffering is entertainment. That’s your only value.”

The world darkened. Blood pooled at the corner of his mouth. His limbs spasmed uncontrollably.

He couldn’t move. He couldn’t fight. He couldn’t even scream anymore. He was weak. He was nothing. He was the most worthless thing alive. “Please…” he gasped. “Enough…”

Red-hair chuckled. “Kill it?”

“Not yet,” the bulky one laughed. “Let’s break it first.”

Violet hair raised her foot higher. “Good idea.”

Lein saw the boot descending, and something inside him snapped. Not physically. Not mentally. Something deeper. A cold tremor rippled through his mind. A whisper. A shiver. A pulse.

[Requirement Met: Extreme Emotional Collapse]

[Requirement Met: Mortal Fear Threshold Broken]

[Requirement Met: Suffering Level: Maximum]

Lein’s eyes widened. More messages. More notifications. But not from the normal game system. This was different.

The ground trembled. Air thickened. Shadows twisted around him. The three players stumbled back. “W-What the hell?!”

A voice, mechanical yet alive, filled Lein’s skull.

[Malivic Depth System Awakening…]

[User: Lein Aeron]

[Cause of Death: Malivic World Overexertion]

[Qualification: Perfect]

Lein’s pulse spiked. The bulky player shouted, “Back away! Something’s wrong with it!”

But it was too late. A shockwave burst from Lein’s body. Not strong enough to kill. Not strong enough to injure. But enough to terrify.

Shadows surged like black tendrils, swirling beneath him, lifting him slightly off the ground.

The players scrambled away. “What kind of thrall has a system?!” Violet hair shrieked.

Lein’s head hung low, trembling, breath ragged, but he felt something new. Something sharp. Something powerful. The voice continued:

[You have suffered enough.]

[Converting Pain: Stat Increase]

[Converting Humiliation: Hidden Talent Awakening]

[Converting Despair: Depth Seed Activation]

Lein’s vision steadied. A faint, unnatural glow formed beneath his cracked skin. The players stared in shock. “He’s evolving? At that rank?!”

“He’s not supposed to! Thralls can’t evolve!”

Violet hair stepped back, panic replacing arrogance. “Kill it now! Kill it before.”

Too late. A deep chime echoed:

[Malivic Depth System: Fully Online]

[Initialization Complete]

[Welcome, Lein Aeron.]

His breath caught. His suffering stopped. His shaking stopped. His helplessness stopped.

For the first time since he opened his eyes, he felt a faint flicker of… strength.

Not enough to win. Not enough to fight back. But enough to stand, and in this world… standing was a miracle for something like him.

He rose slowly, painfully, bones protesting, but he rose. The players froze. Red-hair swallowed. “H-He got up.”

Violet hair gritted her teeth, trying to hide her fear. “He’s still nothing. End him!”

The bulky one charged first. But Lein’s eyes, now glowing faintly, shifted toward him. The system spoke again:

[First Command: Survive]

[Temporary Buff Granted: Pain Resistance +300%]

[Temporary Buff Granted: Fear Nullification]

[Temporary Buff Granted: Hostile Insight]

Suddenly, he could predict the man’s movement, every step, every shift in weight, every swing of his arm.

The world slowed. Lein’s body didn’t move fast. It didn’t become strong. It didn’t transform into something incredible. But it moved enough.

He sidestepped. Barely. Clumsily. But he did it. The bulky player stumbled past him, crashing into a tree.

Violet hair’s eyes widened. Red-hair snarled, raising his staff to cast,  But the system chimed again:

[Emotion Harvest: Hostile Intent Detected]

[Converting Enemy Killing Intent: Strength Boost +1]

A warmth spread into Lein’s limbs. Tiny. Small. Almost insignificant. But when you start at absolute zero, even “+1” feels like ascending the heavens.

He exhaled. And lifted his hand. His fingers trembled, weak and shaking, but he raised them anyway.

Red-hair hesitated, caught off guard by the audacity of a creature that should’ve been crawling. “Y-You think you can fight us?” he spat.

Lein said nothing. He didn’t need to. He simply stared, cold, hollow, beaten, but unbroken.

For the first time in their lives, the players felt fear. The bulky player regained his footing and charged again. This time, Lein didn’t dodge. The system whispered:

[Pain equals Power]

The fist collided with Lein’s face,  Pain exploded, and Lein’s strength spiked.

[Strength +2]

Another punch,  Another spike.

[Strength +3]

Another,

[Strength +5]

He didn’t resist the blows. He didn’t block. He let them hit. Every punch made him stronger. Every strike fueled the system. Every humiliation raised him.

Violet hair realized the horror. “He’s using our attacks to evolve! Stop hitting him!”

But it was too late. Lein lifted his head, blood dripping down his chin, eyes burning with a new, terrifying light. The bulky man backed away. “W-What are you?!”

Lein’s voice was low, hoarse, and cold. “Something this world should fear.”

The players panicked. Red-hair turned to run. Violet hair followed. The bulky one scrambled after them.

Lein tried to chase, but his body collapsed. Knees hit dirt. Breath seized.Vision dimmed.

He still wasn’t strong enough. Not yet. But he wasn’t worthless anymore. The system chimed softly.

[Evolution Path Unlocked]

[Depth Seed Acquired]

[First Quest Generated]

[Quest: Hunt the Ones Who Humiliated You]

[Reward: First Talent Slot Awakening]

Lein’s lips curled into a weak, bloody smile. They would pay. They would suffer. They would kneel. The game that killed him… would become the world he dominated.

A sudden tremor shook the forest floor. Lein forced his head up,  and his entire body froze.

A massive shadow loomed behind him. Eyes like burning coals. Teeth like daggers. Drool sizzling on the ground.

A Dire Crawler King.

A monster far above his rank. A predator that hunted thralls for sport. The system sounded an alarm.

[Warning: Immediate Death Threat Detected]

[Survival Chance: <0.001%]

[Recommendation: Run]

But there was no time to run. The creature lunged. Lein screamed, as darkness swallowed him whole.
