Chapter 1: The Day His Life Changed
Firing off a text, Johnny waited for the customer to come out and retrieve their items. He leaned back in his seat and took a moment to catch his breath. If things went well, he might get a tip to bolster his paltry income. Unfortunately, that was a small hope, as the company he worked for loved to take the employees' tips. Of course, they didn't say they were taking the tips. It would be illegal.
However, the company had a policy where employees were guaranteed a certain amount per delivery, and if a customer paid below that number, then they would still only get what the company paid them. If it was more than that, the company would find some way to get their hands on the money. Basically, the company was trash and trying to cut corners.
Johnny tapped impatiently on the wheel as the customer still hadn't arrived to take their package. They better come soon. He needed the money desperately, especially after his girlfriend dumped him. His head hit the wheel, and there was a loud horn before he lifted his head. Just thinking about that woman pissed him off. Seriously, he had no luck with women.
Every single time, they would suddenly dump him or cheat behind his back. His latest girlfriend was no different. He could still remember how shocked he was to come home with a bouquet to celebrate their anniversary, and she was in bed with another man. The worst part was that the man she hooked up with was a hotshot.
There was nothing Johnny could do unless he wanted to be beaten within an inch of his life. To add insult to injury, he was kicked out of the apartment even though he paid for it. His ex-girlfriend didn't even let him take anything except for the clothes on his back and his car. He was now effectively homeless. All he could do now was survive from paycheck to paycheck and sleep in his car until he could find something.
He didn't have much hope of finding anything in this economy. Well, he supposed it could be worse. After all, he once lived out of a dumpster. It was a miracle that he even graduated with a high school diploma instead of dropping out like some people he knew. Once he got big, he swore he would get back at everyone who treated him like trash.
Looking back at the apartment complex, he saw that there was still no sign of the customer anywhere. He considered whether he should wait another half an hour since he only got paid if the delivery reached the customer when there was an explosion. Immediately, he took cover. Peeking over the edge of the wheel, he scanned the area for signs of where the explosion had come from.
Another explosion was enough for him to give up on the idea of waiting for the customer. There was no way he was going to risk his life when there were a bunch of blessed running around throwing fire, lightning, or buildings everywhere. Starting up the car, he barely managed to go a few feet before something crashed into the car.
Johnny cursed as the front of the car caved in and the airbags came up. With his vision blocked, he couldn't see what had hit him, but he doubted it was anything good. Struggling with the seatbelt, he could feel sweat pouring down his face. It finally gave way, and he threw himself out the front door. Peeking over the edge of the car, he saw a pretty woman sitting up from the large dent.
She didn't seem to notice that he was there and launched into the air. His eyes followed her movement and saw her facing off against another beautiful woman. He watched on as they duked it out, showcasing amazing abilities that only the divine power system could grant. He quickly came to his senses and ran for it. Unfortunately, he didn't get very far when a giant blocked his path.
"Look at what we have here," the hulking monster said. "Tough luck. It looks like it just wasn't your day."
Then he punched Johnny in the gut and sent him flying. His body crashed into the neighboring building as he coughed up blood. It didn't take a genius to know that he had broken some bones and probably ruptured his organs. Honestly, he wasn't sure how he was still alive, but it hurt like hell. As he lay dying, he couldn't help thinking he should have quit his job.
Suddenly, something appeared before his very eyes. With the blood pouring down his face, he couldn't quite see what it was. It took him a few moments before he had a clear enough head and saw well enough to know what it was. The moment he realized what it was, he wondered if he was hallucinating. There was no way he was seeing the divine power system, but the text wasn't disappearing.
[Greetings, this is the Divine Power System.]
[You have been selected to receive a power from the system.]
Everyone knew only a few were blessed to receive the system, hence the name blessed. Of course, the ones with the system were people with a lot of influence already, like CEOs or superstars. It wasn't meant for a nobody like him, but if it was really in front of him, then there was no way he would give up on the chance to get power.
[The user has been determined to receive the power of fire.]
[However, the user's body is too damaged to receive it.]
Just his luck. When he got the chance to get a power, he couldn't get it because he was on the verge of death. The world was really unfair. He wanted to curse everything, but he coughed up blood instead. It was getting harder to stay awake. Johnny could feel everything fading away. He was going to die. That's when he saw new text appear.
[The system has determined a solution for this problem.]
[The user will receive the power of healing too.]
He was at a loss for words. He had never heard of anyone receiving two powers from the system. It had always been one power per person. Had he actually hit the jackpot? This had to be the world's way of making up for his horrible life. More text appeared to replace it, but he didn't get a chance to read them when he was suddenly hit by a wave of intense pain and blacked out.

Rise of the Commoner: Johnny Burns's The Lost Heir Author's Note
Hello everyone. I forgot to add a note in the previous chapter. Anyway, I just want to thank all my readers who have been following along. I really appreciate it. Now for the news you have been waiting for.Johnny's story has ended and turned out shorter than Billy's story like I expected. With its end, I currently have no ongoing stories on this site.I've decided I'll take a break from the site. How long the break will last I'm not quite sure. Hopefully, the break won't be long, and I have a new story up within the year, but we will have to see.Just like with Rise of the Demon King: Caleb Gonzales's Rat Race and Rise of the Desperate: Billy Wood's Save and Restart System, I might do a rewrite or remake of it.If I do go through with this idea, then I'll just immediately go to eBook and paperback, and it would be very different from the one here. We will have to see, and I'll let everyone know.As I stated before, if you want to stay in contact with me, you'll probably have to use F*

Rise of the Commoner: Johnny Burns's The Lost Heir Chapter 96: Deal (2)
"By the way, I don't mean to rush things, but the time limit for the hour is until I return," she said. That certainly caught Johnny's attention as he demanded, "How long is that?""A couple more minutes," she said.A couple minutes wasn't a lot of time to come to a life changing decision. He still needed more time to think. Did he really want to take a chance and accept the offer, which meant leaving everything he knew, or should he stay and weather whatever the system had in store for the world? Weighing the pros and cons of each decision, he could feel sweat forming on his head."I need to go. Have you come to a decision?" she asked. After a brief moment, he said, "Yes.""Well, what's your decision?" she asked."I'll take the offer," he said. She smiled as she said, "Good choice."Suddenly, Katherine slumped over alarming Johnny, who rushed to check up on her. She appeared to be still breathing, and there didn't seem

Rise of the Commoner: Johnny Burns's The Lost Heir Chapter 95: Deal (1)
"Okay, I'm listening," Johnny said."I'm glad to see you can be reasoned with. I've heard of others who aren't so fortunate," the intruder said."Others?" he said."We'll get to that later," she said as she attempted to make a waving motion.Unfortunately, Katherine's missing limbs made that a moot point. It honestly made Johnny uncomfortable seeing Katherine's body attempt to do something an ordinary person could do. He wasn't the only one put off by the situation. The intruder grimaced as she settled back into the wheelchair."Anyway, I'm here to give you a proposal from the system," the intruder said."What?" Johnny snapped."You heard me right. The system would like to offer you a deal, and it's up to you if you want to accept this," the intruder said.Johnny's mind whirled over what she said, scarcely believing what she just said. The system wanted to offer him a deal? This was completely unplanned. He had never heard of t

Rise of the Commoner: Johnny Burns's The Lost Heir Chapter 94: Visitors
Johnny blinked. "Wait. EVeryone?"He couldn't believe what Frank was saying. Was he crazy? Did he really want to let the whole world know about the monsters being able to receive messages from the system? It would be complete chaos. Johnny was exactly advocating to tell no one. Far from it, but he couldn't see how it would help anyone to inform the public about this information."Well, not everyone," Frank said. "I'm referring to the authorities as this is a matter of security.""Will they take it seriously?" Johnny asked."It's hard to say. It's possible everyone will think it's a joke, but it's also possible that some will take the warning seriously," Frank said."I see," Johnny simply said."If that's all, I'm going to take my leave and let you get some rest," Frank said as he stood up.Johnny nodded. "Got it."Right as Frank was about to go out the door, he said, "Actually, there are some people who want to talk to you if y

Rise of the Commoner: Johnny Burns's The Lost Heir Chapter 93: Aftermath
Johnny's eyes snapped open as he sat up abruptly. His mind was moving at several miles per hour as he scanned his surroundings. He had to stop her before she got away. However, the monster was nowhere in sight. He wasn't sure how long he had been out cold, but he supposed it was a bit much to expect the monster to linger just because he told her to stop.More importantly, he was no longer in that place considering the lack of lava. Taking a good look at his surroundings, he deduced that he was back in his own world, which set him on edge. How did he get back? As he wondered who or what had brought him back, the door to the room swung open. He stared at the sight of Frank leading the backs of doctors and unknown men."Johnny, you're awake," Frank said as he rushed over to check on him.A tad bit uncomfortable with how Frank was acting, Johnny asked, "Frank, what happened?"Frank grimaced. "It's a bit of a long story. First, we should make sure you're okay."As soon as he said that, Fra

Rise of the Commoner: Johnny Burns's The Lost Heir Chapter 92: True Form
As Johnny stared at his mother, wondering why he felt uneasy about the whole thing, it finally clicked. "You're not my mother.""What are you talking about? Of course I'm your mother," she said.Johnny shook his head as he took on a relaxed stance. "No, you're not. I don't know why you're pretending to be here, but you should just give up now. It's not going to help you in the long run."The woman also dropped her stance and shrugged her shoulders as she said, "Well, this is unexpected. How did you know?"Rather than admit that it was just his gut instinct, he said, "I have no reason to tell you.""I suppose I should have figured you would say that," she said calmly. She was far too calm for his liking. He knew nothing about it here other than she was a fake, which didn't mean much in the end. It wasn't like he would have gone easier even if she was his mom. However, it did explain why she killed his father without batting an eye, but it begged the question of where his real mother wa
