[Why is this guy so hung up on your apartment? He has called it a dump four times now.]

‘I guess he either hates it or he’s roasting me.’

Coyote forced a half-smile. Vincent still lingered in the doorway, clearly expecting an answer. The last thing Coyote wanted was to push his buttons again, not after seeing how fast the guy’s mood could swing. He shrugged.

“I had a lot of debts, a mountain of bills. Most of the fifty grand went into clearing that. That race was my last shot at climbing out.”

Vincent’s expression softened for half a second before twisting back into that mocking grin. He chuckled. “So it was do-or-die for you.”

“Yes.” Coyote held his gaze, hoping Vincent would finally take the hint and leave.

But instead, Vincent’s voice spiked with sudden intensity. He slapped his palm against the doorframe, startling even his own men. “Wait. You mean to tell me you drove like that because you didn’t care if you lived or died? You were fucking suicidal, weren't ya?”

  • Chapter 44. Vincent Lucci

“I know you must be curious to know who I am.”The man’s voice was smooth, deliberate, and carried that smug self-assurance of someone who’d never been told no in his life. He straightened from his crouched position, tugging his tailored jacket as if the cramped apartment offended him.“Well, before we go into the nitty-gritty of why I’m standing in this dump, I’ll introduce myself.”Coyote’s heart was hammering, though he masked it with a glare. He didn’t need much guessing. The neck tattoo peeking out from under the expensive collar, the cold glint in his eyes, it screamed mob.“My name,” the man finally said, pausing for effect, “is Vincent Lucci. The heir and only son of the Lucci family.”The words hung in the air like smoke.[So Jax was right about these motherfuckers coming for you.]‘Jax is never wrong about these things,’ Coyote thought grimly. The three henchmen holding him down tightened their grips, pressing his knees harder into the carpet. His arms ached, but he forced h

Coyote couldn’t stop replaying the encounter with Valentina in his head. Her sharp tongue, the way she had dismissed him without a second thought, it stung worse than he wanted to admit. He had been insulted before; hell, he grew up hearing worse from people who never believed he’d amount to anything. But Valentina’s rudeness? It wasn’t just an insult. It was definitely a challenge. The thought of it lingered like smoke he couldn’t wave away, clinging to his mind as the garage quieted down for the night. By the time he finally looked at his phone, it was past 7 p.m. The mechanics were locking up tools, the faint smell of grease still heavy in the air. He wiped his hands on a rag and called it a day.“Heading out?” Rudy’s voice broke through his stormy thoughts.“Yeah.”Rudy leaned against a toolbox, grinning. “Are you coming early to training tomorrow?”Coyote hesitated for a second, then smirked. “I’ll be here early. Earlier than anyone. I’m gonna train harder than I’ve ever trained

The system’s voice flickered in his mind like an unwanted notification. [Do you want to activate Charisma Boost to charm her?] Coyote’s jaw flexed. He stood there, silent, the words circling in his head, trying to figure out what was worth saying. His silence only made her angrier. “I asked you a question, creep. Or are you slow?” Valentina’s voice sharpened as she leaned closer, her sharp blue eyes narrowing. ‘No,’ Coyote told the system flatly. ‘I’m not wasting a skill on this nasty lady.’ His patience was running out. He let out a sharp breath through his nose and finally snapped back, his voice low but steady. “Are you always this rude to strangers?” His gaze locked on hers, unflinching. Her mouth opened, ready to throw another insult, but he cut her off. “I was admiring a driver giving it their all on the track, that’s all. I don’t know how the hell you could assume I was creeping on you.” Valentina scoffed, folding her arms across her chest. “Please. You’re lying. I ca

  • Chapter 41. Sparks on the Track

Coyote spent the rest of the day settling into the Nakamura Racing garage. The place was alive in a way that reminded him of a beast breathing, air compressors hissing, drills whining, the thump of tires being dropped into stacks. The smell of motor oil clung heavy to the air, mixing with burnt rubber and sweat. Every corner buzzed with motion, and though part of him wanted to just zone out and lose himself in the chaos, he forced himself to pay attention. He couldn’t afford not to.One by one, he met the crew. Some were older guys with hands calloused like tree bark, their fingernails blackened by years of grease. Others were young, jittery with ambition, eager to prove themselves. Then there were the engineers, who seemed to speak in their own language, numbers, ratios, graphs. Coyote didn’t pretend he understood half of it, but he asked questions anyway. He listened. He laughed at their stories, and admitted what he didn’t know. People respected honesty more than fake confidence. H

  • Chapter 40. The Quirks of The Skill

“Quirks?” Coyote asked again, his voice steady but edged with suspicion. His hands tightened on the steering wheel, eyes locked on the stretch of asphalt in front of him. “What quirks does the skill have?”The system didn’t answer right away. Its silence was the kind that carried weight, like it wanted him to feel the pause before the truth dropped. Finally, the voice hummed back into his head.[Charisma Boost does not last forever. Its influence weakens over time, especially on people who are very unwilling to do the thing you want. For example, your father, doesn’t truly want to clear your name. He despises the idea. But under the skill’s effect, he’ll tell the truth. He’ll do it. The problem is, in a matter of weeks or months, when the effect fades, he’ll remember. He’ll feel the anger of being forced. And he will despise you even more for it.]Coyote exhaled sharply through his nose. He had expected something like that. Nothing this easy comes without strings attached. The system’
