Even though she was puzzled that the young man chose to help her, she finally understood why she once felt no desire to attack the handsome youth, even when Yung Yin ordered her to do so.

Pure instinct never lies. What was in her heart was confirmed by Xiao Chen’s noble character. The beautiful girl then moved away from Xiao Chen to help Martha.

“Why did you help that girl? Aren’t she, her friends, and their master trying to seize your sacred weapon and even planning to kill you?” Liu Yang looked at Xiao Chen in surprise for what he had just done for Sekar.

Xiao Chen scratched his head lightly while watching the beautiful girl walking toward her companion. “Why should I help them? Because they never intended to kill me or take my sword. The one who will kill your wife is that snake staff woman!”

Liu Yang followed Xiao Chen’s gaze toward the battle between his wife and Yung Yin.

“If you want to help your wife, you’d better do it now, or it will be too late,” Xiao Chen added.

An unexpected answer came from Liu Yang’s mouth. “Let her die. I’m tired of living with her. After killing you, I’ll leave this place and take your sword with me!”

“So you choose to fight me? Very well then, prepare yourself!” Xiao Chen shook his head in disbelief that the man before him would simply let his own wife perish.

The young man couldn’t help but compare him with his own father, who had remained loyal to his mother until death parted them.

Unlike his fight against Yung Yin’s three disciples, this time Liu Yang fought with all his heart. He was aware that the youth before him was far stronger than those three girls, so there was no reason to take things lightly.

The middle-aged man launched the first strike. His opening move was not half-hearted; he delivered a powerful blow to test how much the youth could withstand.

Xiao Chen, however, refused to clash with raw inner force. He preferred to dodge or simply parry.

This only angered Liu Yang further. He had already unleashed more than twenty attacks, yet all had been evaded or blocked. He decided to increase his speed, hoping to pressure the young man into making a mistake and exposing an opening.

In his analysis, a fighter under pressure often made mistakes. That would be his chance to land a decisive strike.

But his expectations were crushed. Xiao Chen kept matching his speed—and even began to surpass it.

“Damn it! How can his speed keep increasing?” Liu Yang was shocked at the youth’s improvement.

Xiao Chen’s pressure did not relent. He pushed harder, forcing his opponent into a desperate state.

From afar, Sekar and Martha watched the battle. Smiles spread across their faces, relieved that their rescuer was gaining the upper hand. Unknowingly, they found themselves silently cheering for Xiao Chen.

Their joy contrasted with Liu Yang’s frustration. The rapid growth of his opponent shocked him. His greatest mistake had been underestimating the young man because of his age.

As a seasoned fighter, he should have been able to measure an opponent’s strength. But Xiao Chen defied measurement. He had only assumed the youth’s ability based on the corpses he left behind and believed him stronger than Yung Yin’s three disciples.

“You’re no better than those people I killed earlier,” Xiao Chen mocked while continuing his assault.

Liu Yang refused to let his skills be belittled. He relied on his experience, determined to turn it into victory.

“You may be faster, brat! But I have far more experience. See? Not once have your attacks landed on me!” Liu Yang retorted.

“Then your experience won’t save you!” Xiao Chen suddenly flipped into the air, using one leg as a pivot, before shooting forward at full speed with his claw-shaped right hand extended.

“Blind Wolf’s Wrath!”

Liu Yang stepped back, raising both arms to defend, still searching for the tiniest chance of a counterattack.

But just before the claw strike landed, Xiao Chen pulled it back and shifted into a sudden kick aimed at Liu Yang’s head.

“You think I can’t read your change in attack, boy? This is the value of experience!” Liu Yang roared, lowering his body to evade the strike.

Yet Xiao Chen was far more cunning. He let the kick miss deliberately, landing smoothly behind Liu Yang.

Slash!

“Aaagh!”

Liu Yang staggered forward, a sharp pain tearing across his back where Xiao Chen’s claws had raked him. The wound stung fiercely as his sweat seeped into the open gash.

Sekar and Martha clapped without realizing it, their mouths agape at the clever feint. Their master, Yung Yin, had never taught them such deceptive techniques.

Liu Yang spun around angrily, his breath ragged.

“You may have experience, but you don’t have this!” Xiao Chen tapped his forehead with a sly grin.

“You insolent brat!” Liu Yang cursed. For a martial artist, there was no greater insult than being told he lacked reason. And yet, that insult had come from a mere youth.

“Don’t get arrogant, boy! I haven’t lost, and I will never surrender!” Liu Yang bellowed, the pain in his back lessening as he circulated his inner energy.

He glanced briefly at the duel between Yung Yin and his wife. A pang of regret struck him—Xiao Chen had offered to help her, but he had refused. Had he accepted, his chances of survival would have been much greater fighting alongside his wife against Yung Yin.

But it was too late. What was done could not be undone. Now, all he could do was fight with everything he had left.

  • The Horseman in the Darkness

When Xiao Chen mentioned Liu Zun’s name, some of the villagers disagreed. One of them even voiced his objection directly to him."Why should Liu Zun be the leader of this village?" asked a man who appeared to be around sixty years old.Xiao Chen looked at the man and smiled faintly. "Let me ask you this, Uncle—did I ever say the people of this village must choose Liu Zun as the village chief?"The man fell silent and simply shook his head."I only gave a suggestion, didn’t I?" Xiao Chen pressed. This time, there was no nod, no reply—only silence."I know very well the nature of the people in this village. Some look kind but hide corruption within their hearts. Others are genuinely good and sincere in their deeds. All of this is etched clearly in my memory," Xiao Chen added, deliberately hinting at the man before him.He then waved for Sekar to come closer."From now on, I will no longer interfere with this village’s affairs. Choose for yourselves a leader whom you think is worthy to l

  • Suggestion

"We have nothing to do with the two of you, so we will still leave this place!" said one of the six members of the Devil’s Sickle group."You may not have anything to do with me directly, but your four leaders brutally murdered my father. So in this matter, you will still be held accountable!" Xiao Chen replied with a firm and pressing tone. The six men dressed in red certainly did not share Xiao Chen’s perspective. They believed their only task was to protect Lu Feng from the villagers, not from outsiders. But today, reality forced them to face the bitter truth. Fighting against the young pair of warriors was not a choice they could take if they wanted to save their lives."Sekar, finish them!" Xiao Chen shouted without even glancing at the beautiful girl.Hearing Xiao Chen’s command, the six members of the Devil’s Sickle were startled. But they still thought it would be easier to deal with the girl than the young man. They planned to use this opportunity to their advantage. One by o

  • Massacre

Xiao Chen could see the fear in the man’s eyes, even though his mouth barked loudly in defiance. A faint smile curved on his lips.“I already told you—anyone who dares protect that savage, Lu Feng, will also die by my hands. This is my final offer: leave now, or die.” His body trembled slightly as he spoke. Unlike the many battles he had fought before, this one felt different—his fury was rooted in vengeance for his parents’ deaths.Suddenly, Lu Feng reappeared from inside his house. “Do not be afraid! He is only bluffing! If you kill him, I will give thirty gold coins to each of you who survives!”The guards, who a moment ago had considered fleeing, instantly changed their minds. Thirty gold coins were equal to ten weeks of wages—an irresistible sum.“You will be the last to die, you vile man!” Xiao Chen shouted, pointing at Lu Feng with burning eyes full of hatred. “Because of you, my parents are dead. Because of your treachery, I was cast out of this village. But in truth, I am gra

  • Revenge

Although some villagers were glad to hear it, others still felt pessimistic about Xiao Chen’s promise. They did not believe the young man could defeat the dozens of warriors hired by Lu Feng to guard him. Defeating Lu Han and his three companions was one thing, but overcoming Lu Feng’s guards was another matter entirely.“You’d better forget your intention, Xiao Chen. It’s not that we don’t appreciate your willingness to help this village, but let us bear the suffering caused by Lu Feng alone. You should leave and never return here,” said a middle-aged woman.“Aunt Ren Ying, in the past you were always kind and often helped my struggling family. I believe it is now my turn to repay the kindness you once showed. Trust me, the two of us will be fine.”Xiao Chen stepped closer to the slightly plump woman. He still remembered well how Ren Ying had often helped his family, giving them food or lending money without interest. After shaking hands with her, Xiao Chen invited Sekar to follow hi

  • Help for the Villagers

To avoid being noticed by Lu Han and his three friends, Xiao Chen walked with his head lowered, never once lifting his face. He still didn’t want to deal with Lu Han, because his true purpose in returning to Qincheng village was Lu Feng.Xiao Chen was not the center of attention for Lu Han’s three companions. Instead, it was Sekar, whose beauty was a perfect blend of sweetness and charm. Those three young men, known for their fondness for women, could not resist their desire when they saw a beautiful stranger entering their village. Meanwhile, Lu Han was still busy joking and wrapping his arms around the girl beside him.“Who is that girl? Why have we never seen her before?” asked one of Lu Han’s friends curiously, his eyes still fixed on Sekar.“Wait, isn’t that Xiao Chen, the loser who was once driven out of this village?” guessed another one of Lu Han’s friends.Hearing his companions’ words, Lu Han immediately turned his gaze toward Xiao Chen and Sekar, who were walking in the opp

  • Return to Qincheng Village

Seeing Martha’s unblinking gaze fixed on Xiao Chen and Li Lan as they departed, Zhang Wei realized something had been hidden in his disciple’s heart. More so when he noticed a glistening tear roll down the corner of her beautiful eye.“You like Xiao Chen, don’t you?”Martha quickly wiped away her tear before turning to Zhang Wei. She shook her head in denial.“You can’t lie to me, Martha. Your eyes are different today.”Martha nodded at last. “Both Li Lan and I like Xiao Chen, Master. But he doesn’t react at all when either of us tries to get closer to him.”Zhang Wei smiled faintly, reminded of his late wife, who had passed away even before he retired from the martial world.“If you are truly destined for him, you will meet again. But honestly, I pray that the three of you may one day be united in marriage. Xiao Chen is a responsible young man. It wouldn’t be a problem if you both became his wives.”“It feels difficult to share one’s heart, Master. But if that is truly fate, I will l
