The rain did not stop, but for Adam Cook, the sound of the water hitting the pavement suddenly faded into a hum. The cold mud against his cheek vanished. The smell of the dirty alleyway was gone.

One moment, he was lying in the dirt, a broken boy with a wine-stained suit. Next, he was floating.

He was in a place that didn't have a floor or a ceiling. It was an endless, black space. But it wasn't empty. Thousands of tiny, violet lines of light moved through the dark like a giant spiderweb. They pulsed. They looked like the veins of a god.

"Am I dead?" Adam whispered. His voice didn't echo. It just sat in the air.

[Negative. Integration in progress]

The voice came from inside his bones. It wasn't a sound he heard with his ears. It was a vibration that started in his teeth and moved down to his toes. It was a woman’s voice—cold, beautiful, and as sharp as a jagged piece of ice.

"Who are you?" Adam asked, looking around the darkness. "Where are you?"

[I am the Eternal Sovereign System] the voice replied. [I am the shadow of the first King. I am the silence between the stars. I am your only chance to survive.]

A screen of light flickered into existence in front of his face. It looked like a sheet of glowing purple glass. Letters began to scroll across it in a language Adam had never seen, yet he could somehow read it perfectly.

[Host: Adam Cook]

[Status: Soul-Bonding]

[Mana Capacity: 0/0 (Null)]

[Resonance Level: 0.01%]

"Null," Adam said, a bitter taste in his mouth. "Even a ghost-voice knows I’m a Null. I have no magic. I have no resonance with the world's mana. That’s what Julian said. That’s why Emily left."

[Exactly] the voice vibrated. [The mages of this world are like cups filled with dirty water. They have 'Spirit Veins' that are narrow and weak. They can only hold a small amount of energy. But you, Adam Cook you have Zero Resonance.]

"How is that good?" Adam shouted, his frustration boiling over. "It means I'm a nobody! I can't even light a match with my mind!"

[It means you are an empty vessel] the system countered. [Because there is no water in your cup, you can be filled with the Void. The Void does not blend with mana. It eats it. To the world, you are a void. To me, you are the perfect King.]

Suddenly, a massive surge of heat hit Adam’s chest. He screamed as the black shard he had seen in the alleyway appeared in the air before him. It was spinning, pulling the violet lines of the web into itself.

[Establishing the Void Path]

[Step 1: Soul Cleaning]

The pain was unlike anything Adam had ever felt. It felt like his skin was being peeled off and washed in acid. He saw memories of his life flashing before his eyes—his mother dying of a magical fever they couldn't afford to cure, the long nights working at the docks, the way Emily used to look at him before she grew ambitious.

He saw Julian Martinez’s face, laughing as the wine poured down.

I want power, Adam thought through the pain. I don’t want to be the one on the ground anymore. I want to be the one who decides who bows.

[Desire Detected. Willpower: S-Rank]

[System Synchronization: 100%]

The black space began to shatter like glass. The violet lines snapped.

[Welcome to the Path, Sovereign] the voice said, sounding almost satisfied. [But power is not a gift. It is a prize. You must prove you can lead. You must prove you can dominate.]

Another screen appeared, glowing a deep, dangerous red.

[NEW MISSION: THE HEART OF THE FROST]

[Objective: Gain a 'Favorable Impression' (Level 1) from Catherine Cook.]

[Time Limit: 72 Hours.]

Adam stared at the name. "Catherine Cook? You mean the Professor?"

Everyone at Bourbon Academy knew the name Catherine Cook. She was the most beautiful woman in the kingdom, but she was also the most terrifying. They called her the "Ice Witch." It was said that a student once tried to bring her a flower, and she froze his hand so badly he lost three fingers. She didn't talk to students. She didn't talk to other teachers. She lived in the highest tower of the faculty wing, surrounded by blizzards she created herself.

"She’ll kill me," Adam said, his heart racing. "She hates everyone. Especially scholarship students. Especially Nulls."

[Correction] the System said. [She does not hate you. She does not see you. To her, you are an ant. Your task is to make the Ice Witch look down and see a man.]

[REWARD: Opening of the First Gate of the Void. (Unlocks Void Magic Level 1)]

[PENALTY FOR FAILURE: Total Organ Failure. Your heart will stop. Your lungs will collapse. You will die in the mud.]

"Three days?" Adam gasped. "I have three days to make the scariest woman in the world like me, or I die?"

[The clock is ticking, Sovereign]

The black world exploded into white light.

Adam’s eyes snapped open. He was back in the alley. The rain was still falling, cold and relentless. He was shivering, his body feeling heavy and strange. He pushed himself up from the mud, his hands shaking.

He was bare-chested, wearing only simple dark pants.Yet, Malphas felt a terrible, crushing weight pressing down on his chest. It was not a spell. Adam was not doing anything. The heavy pressure was just coming from Adam’s simple presence."I think," Adam whispered again, his voice echoing inside Malphas’s brain, "you are going to have to fix the door."Malphas opened his mouth to speak, but his throat was perfectly dry. The purple screen flickered. He understood perfectly. To build a bigger castle, you have to tear down the old one. He had to destroy his own soul's shape to let the Void expand naturally. But there was a catch. The System immediately showed another red warning.[WARNING!][Opening the Second Gate will instantly shatter the current Soul Walls.][If the Host cannot control the raw energy without walls, the Host’s physical body will instantly vaporize in the real world.][Survival Rate: 0.01%.]Adam smiled. It was a cold, dark, fearless smile. "I survived the mud," Adam said softly. "I survived the Ice Witch. I survived the Bone Dragon. I survived the Holy Seraph. Do you really think I care about a decimal point?"Adam raised both of his hands. He looked at the thick
