Chapter 1
The golden doors of the Bourbon Grand Ballroom were twenty feet high. They were carved from white oak and inlaid with real silver that shimmered under the floating magical lights.
For most students at the Academy, these doors represented their future—a world of power, high-society parties, and the ruling of nations. For Adam Cook, these doors felt like the entrance to a cage.
Adam stood at the edge of the room. He felt out of place, and he knew he looked out of place. His suit was a dark navy blue, but it was three years old.
The sleeves were a bit too short, showing his bony wrists, and the fabric was thick and cheap compared to the silk and velvet worn by everyone else.
His hands were hidden in his pockets. They were rough hands. They were the hands of a boy who spent his mornings hauling heavy crates at the docks and his nights scrubbing floors in the Academy’s alchemy labs. He did all of this for one reason.
His eyes searched the crowded room, darting past sons of dukes and daughters of arch-mages. Finally, he saw her.
Emily.
She was standing near the chocolate fountain, surrounded by a group of laughing girls. She looked like a dream. Her dress was a pale lavender that seemed to glow with its own light. Her hair was pinned up with silver pins, and she was smiling. It was the smile that Adam had fallen in love with three years ago when they were both just scholarship students from the outer districts.
Adam felt a small, hard object in his right pocket. It was a velvet box. Inside was the Star-Drop Pendant. It was a tiny piece of enchanted quartz that held a flicker of starlight. It wasn't a powerful magical artifact, but it was beautiful.
It had cost him six months of extra shifts and many skipped meals. It was her nineteenth birthday, and he wanted to show her that even if he didn't have "Spirit Veins" or a famous family name, he could still give her the world.
He took a deep breath and started to walk toward her.
As he moved through the crowd, the conversations quieted. People nudged each other. They pointed at his scuffed shoes. They whispered behind their fans.
"Is that the 'Null'?" a girl whispered, loud enough for him to hear.
"Yes," her friend replied, giggling. "Adam Cook. The boy who has so little mana he can't even light a candle. Why is he even at the Masquerade?"Adam kept his head down. He was used to the insults. In a world where magic was everything, being born without the ability to channel mana was like being born without legs. He was a "Null," a person at the bottom of the social ladder.
"Emily!" he called out softly as he reached her circle.
The girls around Emily stopped talking. Emily turned around. When she saw Adam, her smile didn't grow. It froze. It became a thin, tight line.
"Adam," she said. Her voice wasn't warm. It was flat. "What are you doing here? I thought you said you had to work tonight."
"I finished early," Adam said, trying to sound cheerful. He reached into his pocket. "I wanted to see you. I wanted to give you this. Happy birthday, Emily."
He pulled out the velvet box and opened it. The tiny Star-Drop Pendant caught the light of the floating candles. It sparkled with a soft, blue hue. For a second, Adam thought he saw a spark of the old Emily in her eyes—the girl who used to share a single loaf of bread with him in the park.
But then, a shadow fell over them.
A tall, handsome young man stepped out from behind the chocolate fountain. He wore a suit of charcoal gray that cost more than Adam would earn in ten years. His hair was perfectly styled, and a golden badge pinned to his chest showed the crest of a roaring lion.
Julian Martinez. The heir to the Martinez Clan, one of the three most powerful magical families in the kingdom.
"What is this?" Julian asked, his voice smooth and rich like dark honey. He looked at the pendant in Adam’s hand as if it were a piece of garbage he had found on the street.
"It’s a gift for my girlfriend," Adam said, his voice trembling slightly. He tried to stand taller, but Julian was a head taller and much broader.
Julian laughed. It was a cold, sharp sound. "Girlfriend? Emily, is this true? Are you dating this person?"
The girls in the circle started to titter. Emily looked at Julian, then at the crowded ballroom, then finally at Adam. Her face turned red with embarrassment.
"No," Emily said. The word hit Adam harder than a physical punch.
"Emily?" Adam whispered. "What are you saying?"
Emily stepped closer to Julian, sliding her hand into the crook of his arm. "Adam, don't be dramatic. We were friends. Maybe a little more than friends when we were kids. But we are adults now. I am a Tier 2 Mage. I have a future."
She looked at the Star-Drop Pendant and curled her lip. "And that? That's a toy. A cheap piece of glass. Julian gave me a Liquid Fire Diamond for my birthday. It's worth a mansion in the capital."
She pointed to her neck. There, hanging from a gold chain, was a gem that pulsed with orange light. It was beautiful, and it was clearly filled with massive amounts of mana.
"But I worked so hard for this," Adam said, his voice cracking. "I did it for you. You said you loved the stars."
"I loved the stars when I was poor and hungry," Emily snapped. Her eyes were cold. "I don't want to look at the stars anymore, Adam. I want to live among them. And you? You're just dirt. You're a 'Null.' You have no magic. You have no money. You have nothing to offer me but 'love,' and love doesn't pay for Spirit Awakening potions."
Julian smiled. He picked up a glass of dark red wine from a passing waiter’s tray. "You heard the lady, Cook. You’re making a scene. You’re staining the atmosphere of this beautiful party."
"I'm not leaving until she tells me the truth to my face," Adam said, his anger finally starting to burn through his sadness. "Emily, look at me! Was it all a lie? Every night we spent studying? Every promise you made?"
Emily didn't look at him. She looked at Julian. "Make him go away, Julian. He's embarrassing me."
"With pleasure, darling," Julian said.
He stepped forward. The air around Julian began to hum. It was the sound of mana being gathered. Adam felt the hair on his arms stand up.
"You're a bit thirsty, aren't you, Adam?" Julian asked.
Before Adam could move, Julian tilted the glass. He didn't just pour it; he used a flick of his fingers to enchant the liquid. The red wine didn't just fall; it flew. It splashed directly onto Adam’s face, soaking his hair, his eyes, and his cheap suit.
The ballroom went silent for a heartbeat, and then the laughter erupted.

Sovereign Beyond Creation Chapter 51
Julian shifted his feet, blocking Adam again. The four guards tightened their grip on their swords."Please, do not rush away," Julian said, his voice dripping with that same fake, chilling kindness. "The light teaches us forgiveness. I wish to show the entire Academy that I hold no anger toward you. I wish to show them that the darkness of our past is buried."Julian bowed his head slightly. "I invite you to a public spar, brother Adam. Tomorrow at noon. In the main arena. An exhibition match. To prove to everyone that we are united."Adam stared at him. It was a trap. It was an incredibly obvious trap.Malphas wanted to test his new weapon. The Inquisitor wanted to see exactly what Adam could do against holy magic. If Adam fought Julian in a public spar, he would have to reveal the true power of the Void to the entire school. If he revealed too much, the King would order his execution."No," Adam said simply. "I do not play games anymore, Julian. I already beat you once. I don't nee

Sovereign Beyond Creation Chapter 50
Three days later. The sun was shining brightly over Bourbon Academy. The sky was a perfect, clear blue. The main courtyard was crowded with students. They were laughing, talking, and carrying their heavy books to their morning classes.Adam stood near the edge of the courtyard, leaning against a white marble pillar. He was wearing his long black coat. He liked to watch the crowd. He liked to see the magical auras of the students. With his newly evolved eyes, he could see the flow of magic everywhere. It looked like colored rivers floating in the air.Suddenly, the great silver bells of the Academy began to ring. BONG. BONG. BONG.The students stopped talking. The bells only rang like this for royal visitors or high-ranking church officials. The heavy iron gates slowly swung open.A group of people walked into the courtyard. They were not regular students. "Give it to me," Adam said. His voice was not human anymore. It was the deep, echoing sound of an empty universe.Julian Martinez screamed. Sovereign Beyond Creation Chapter 48
"We have to go. Now," Catherine said. She stood up and pulled Adam up with her. Adam was a lot heavier than he looked. His muscles were dense with new power. Catherine grunted with the effort, but she threw his right arm over her shoulders. She wrapped her own arm tightly around his waist.Adam leaned heavily against her. He could barely feel his own legs. Every step felt like he was walking on broken glass."I've got you," Catherine whispered softly. "Just keep moving. One step at a time."They left the tiny basement room. They began the long, slow walk through the dark, quiet halls of the Academy. It was the middle of the night. The normal students were all asleep in their soft, warm beds. The floating magic lanterns on the walls were dimmed to a soft, sleepy yellow glow. The silence of the school was a sharp contrast to the violent, screaming war happening inside Adam’s body. They moved slowly. Adam dragged his feet. He left a trail of sweat on the stone floor. The reality-warpi
