CHAPTER 122 — THE CLONE PROTOCOL

The facility's corridors were antiseptically white, lit by harsh luminous strips that made everything look washed out and dead. Our footsteps echoed too loudly in the silence.

"Jabari's distraction is working," Yuyan whispered, checking a small device on her wrist. "Guards are converging on the checkpoint. We have maybe five minutes."

We moved quickly through passages that shouldn't have existed according to the maps. My radar sweep helped me push forward like a rope tied around my ribs, showing me turns before we reached them.

"Left here," I said.

Katseye stayed close to my shoulder, her breathing steady despite the tension. Behind us, the others moved with practiced silence with their weapons ready as their eyes scan for threats.

We reached the prisoner level. The cells stretched down both sides of a long corridor, each one sealed with heavy steel doors. Small windows showed glimpses of the interiors.

Yuyan checked the first cell. Empty.

The second. Also empty.
