Chapter 2

He got on his bicycle and headed over to Ella's Suite.

They did not live in the same place. He was a student, and could not afford enough money to get a house for himself, so he had to beg one of his course mates to let him squat in his dormitory for a while.

And fortunately for him, he accepted, but he had to do some odd jobs for them. He didn't care though …as long as he was going to have a place to hide his head for a while.

Halfway through his journey, he stopped. He had to call Ella first before he stepped into her suite, and from the last time that he checked, she was not a fan of the announced visit.

He brought out his little Nokia phone from his pocket and quickly pushed her number into it.

For some reason that he could not tell, his heart was beating fast as though it were going to burst through.

He waited for a while, but she wasn't picking up the calls. He tried again, and she still wasn't picking up.

“What could be wrong?” He thought in his head, perplexed.

He did not know what he was going to do now. He either goes to her suite with the gift and break the rule, which he knew for sure was going to get her angry, or he was just going to return to his dormitory and wait patiently for her to pick up the call.

“I think that I am going to pick up the latter. I would rather not do anything that will get her angry with me, and besides, today is her birthday.” He thought in his head.

Lucas turned the wheels of his bicycle around, and he paddled back to his dormitory.

He rode as fast as he could so that he was going to call her back when he eventually got there.

He got to his dormitory a few minutes later, and he came down as soon as he could. Lucas walked into his room, and it seemed as though his aura brought some dark powers into the room, as everyone in the room fell silent almost immediately.

“What's wrong with you guys? Saw a ghost ?” He inquired because he was confused.

Michael, one of his roommates, stared at his hands and he noticed the bracelet with him, which was weird.

He had never seen him buy anything for himself before.

“Guys, I think that Lucas just won some sought of bet or something, he got himself a bracelet.” He announced, and the others turned around towards him as soon as they could.

“Well, it's still cheap like him, I have to admit.” The other roommate, Maxwell, spat out the words from his mouth.

“But what do you think, it would be better for him to have gotten a change of these worn-out clothes.” His last roommate, Fredrick, added.

“Well, sorry to disappoint you guys, but it's not for me. It's for my girlfriend, Ella.” He announced, but even before he got to finish his statement, a burst of laughter escaped from their lips.

“Wait, wait Lucas.” Fredrick began in between a laugh.

“We all know that you are wretched, poor, and whatever, but you don't have to keep fooling yourself around. Does she like you?” He rocked even harder with laughter.

“It doesn't matter what you guys have to say. We both love each other. Just last night, she had sworn that she was never going to leave me for another person and besides, she has already taken me to her parents, so what's to it again?” He inquired.

“Do you even believe what you just spat out from your mouth, Lucas?” Michael inquired, still laughing.

“Yes, I believe it. Every single bit of it.” Lucas affirmed with every single thing that he had inside of him.

“Wait, guys, I doubt that he has heard about it,” Maxwell suddenly spewed.

“Heard about what?” Lucas inquired, but there was no response.

Instead, Maxwell brought out his phone from his pockets and brought out a picture. It was Ella with another guy.

Immediately Lucas saw the photo, he could feel his anger rising to his neck.

“And what sort of nonsense is this?” He fired, pushing the phone away from himself.

“Well, it's the confirmation that your so-called girlfriend is only using you and nothing other than that.”

“And what do you think? I won't find out that you edited that ? Do you think that I am such a fool? I already know Ella and there is one thing that she can never do to me, and that is to cheat on me.” He shot out the words from his mouth in one breath.

Lucas could no longer stand there and watch them make a jest of his relationship with the most beautiful thing that had ever happened in his life.

He clutched his hands tighter, trying as much as he could to control his rising anger, until he had to storm away from the place to take a chill breeze outside.

But then, he had no rest even after he walked away from them. He heard a group of students discussing Ella, and he hid to hear what they were talking about.

If they were saying anything bad, he was certainly going to make sure that they paid for every single word of it.

“I heard every single bit of it when I was strolling past the hotel door.” He heard one of them saying and he was perplexed.

“What the heck for ten devils are they talking about?” He thought in his head, still confused.

“She was moaning so loud as the man banged her.” He heard them saying.

“They certainly can't be talking about my Ella, can they?” He thought.

“I saw the photos that you posted on the web too. I can bet that she really loves this man and this relationship of theirs might eventually lead to marriage.” He heard another saying.

He could feel every single part of his body shivering and cold shivers running down his spine at the thought of his Ella cheating on him.

“No, this can't be true.” He thought in his head.

“Not my Ella. Maybe they are talking about someone else because she can never do that to me.” He said to himself almost immediately.

Lucas turned around, inching away from his hideout, but something made him stop and that was the words of one of the gossips.

“And that poor freak, Lucas or whatever he decides to be called, thinks she is so madly in love with him. He is such a fool, I have to say.” They laughed.

“But what was he even thinking? That Ella was going to settle for his poor ass with those torn shorts of his that he is always wearing?” Another said, rocking hard with so much laughter.

He could not believe it. But he just heard it from two people now.

Even at the thought of it, his heart was already broken into shreds.

“No, Ella, you can't do this to me. You promised.” He sobbed.

He pushed off the tears that were forming at the corner of his eyes and got over to his bicycle. He was heading to the hotel where they had spotted Ella with the stranger.

Furthermore, he was not going to believe anything about his girlfriend until he saw it for himself.

“I just pray that all this isn't true.” He prayed in his head.
