Chapter 2: The Princess, the Tower, and an Unexpected Twist

Trevor wiped the sweat from his forehead as the Banana Bandit finally disappeared into a puff of smoke, leaving behind a single glowing banana.

Quest Complete! Reward: 5 XP and 1 Heroic Banana.

“A heroic banana?” Trevor said, picking it up gingerly. “What am I supposed to do with this? Start a fruit stand?”

“Of course not!” GL1TCH chirped, hovering around him. “You’ll thank me later. Now, onto your next quest!”

Another glowing text box appeared.

New Quest: Rescue the Princess from the Tower!

Objective: Reach the tower (0/1), Defeat the Tower Guard (0/1), Rescue the Princess (0/1). Reward: 20 XP and 1 Mystery Loot Box.

Trevor groaned. “This is a joke, right? I just got here, and now you want me to fight some tower guard? I barely survived a monkey with a sword!”

“Don’t worry! This quest is much easier. Probably.” GL1TCH tilted its cube-shaped head.

“Define ‘easier,’” Trevor muttered, rubbing his temples.

“C’mon, let’s go!” GL1TCH zipped ahead, leading Trevor toward a distant tower silhouetted against the horizon.

---

The trek to the tower wasn’t exactly epic. Trevor stumbled through fields of grass, tripped over a root, and nearly sprained his ankle stepping into a rabbit hole.

“This is ridiculous,” he grumbled. “Heroes in movies make this look so cool.”

After what felt like hours (but was probably closer to twenty minutes), Trevor finally reached the base of the tower.

It was a crumbling, crooked structure that looked like it was held together by duct tape and sheer determination. At the entrance stood a hulking figure—a seven-foot-tall ogre wielding a spiked club.

“Okay,” Trevor said, staring up at the ogre. “That’s the Tower Guard? How am I supposed to fight that?”

GL1TCH blinked. “Use your heroic banana!”

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Trevor said, holding up the glowing fruit.

“Trust me!” GL1TCH said.

Trevor sighed. “Fine. Here goes nothing.”

With a reluctant yell, he chucked the banana at the ogre. To his shock, it exploded on impact, covering the creature in glowing banana mush.

The ogre froze, staring down at itself. Then, with a deafening roar, it dropped its club and bolted into the woods.

Quest Updated: Defeat the Tower Guard (1/1).

Trevor blinked. “What just happened?”

“The banana was enchanted with Fear Magic,” GL1TCH explained. “It’s super effective against low-level enemies!”

“I’m not sure what’s worse,” Trevor said, “the fact that I just beat an ogre with a banana or the fact that you said that like it’s completely normal.”

“Both,” GL1TCH said cheerfully. “Now, let’s get that princess!”

---

The inside of the tower was dark, dusty, and smelled faintly of mildew. Trevor climbed the spiral staircase, his stick-turned-sword held tightly in his hand.

“Why do I feel like this is a trap?” he muttered.

“Don’t be so paranoid,” GL1TCH said.

Finally, they reached the top. Trevor pushed open a creaky wooden door and stepped into the room.

Inside was a woman in a flowing dress, sitting on a throne-like chair. Her back was to him, and her long, golden hair cascaded down to the floor.

“Uh... hi,” Trevor said, cautiously stepping forward. “I’m here to rescue you?”

The woman turned around slowly, revealing... a terrifyingly familiar face.

It was the Banana Bandit. Wearing a wig.

Trevor froze. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

The Banana Bandit screeched, ripping off the wig and lunging at Trevor.

“GL1TCH! What the heck is going on?!” Trevor yelled, dodging the Bandit’s attack.

“Oops! I forgot to mention—some princess quests have, uh, plot twists,” GL1TCH said sheepishly.

“Yeah, great timing!” Trevor shouted, swinging his sword.

The Bandit was faster than before, ducking and weaving around Trevor’s attacks. It grabbed a candlestick and hurled it at him.

“Any chance I get a better weapon?” Trevor asked, narrowly avoiding the projectile.

“Check your inventory!” GL1TCH said.

Trevor groaned, pulling up his menu. To his surprise, there was a new item:

Inventory:

A Stick

1 Expired Healing Potion

A Mystery Loot Box

“Oh, come on, a loot box?!” Trevor said.

“Open it!” GL1TCH insisted.

With no better options, Trevor selected the box. It burst open, revealing a frying pan.

“You’re kidding me,” Trevor muttered.

“Trust me, it’s better than it looks!” GL1TCH said.

Trevor didn’t have time to argue. He grabbed the frying pan and swung it just as the Bandit lunged again. The pan connected with a loud CLANG, sending the Bandit flying across the room.

Critical Hit! Banana Bandit Defeated.

Trevor slumped to the ground, breathing heavily. “Please tell me that’s the end of this madness.”

Another notification popped up:

Quest Complete! You have earned 20 XP and 1 Heroic Loot Chest.

“See? That wasn’t so bad!” GL1TCH said.

“I’m starting to think this Hero System is just a really bad joke,” Trevor muttered.

“Don’t be silly! Now, let’s open that loot chest!”

Trevor groaned. This was going to be a long journey.

  • System power

Trevor took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing thoughts. The empty void around him stretched endlessly, but now he had a direction. He had a purpose. Lyra was still out there, trapped in the remnants of the system, and if he didn’t act soon, she would be lost forever. He clenched his fists, his mind still struggling to accept what Other-Trevor had told him. The Rift was the source of everything, the core of the system’s power. If he could reach it, if he could close it, maybe this nightmare would finally end.“How do I get there?” Trevor asked, turning back to Other-Trevor.The figure’s eyes darkened. “The system still has a hold on you. It won’t let you leave without a fight.”Trevor scoffed. “Yeah, well, it’s not like it ever made things easy.”Other-Trevor smirked slightly. “That’s why you have to be ready. You need to find a way back into the system, but this time, you’re going to do it on your own terms.”Trevor frowned. “And how exactly do I do that?”Other-Trevor steppe

It felt like falling but in every direction at once. His stomach twisted. He squeezed his eyes shut, but the dizziness only got worse. The air smelled sterile, like disinfectant and machine oil.Slowly, he forced his eyes open. And immediately wished he hadn’t.He was in a room. But not a normal one. The walls were massive digital screens, flickering with images and numbers. His own face appeared on some of them different versions of him. Some looked like past selves, wearing his old delivery uniform. Others… weren’t him at all. Twisted, monstrous versions with glowing eyes and jagged smiles.Trevor pushed himself up, heart pounding.
