Even though Stan has apologized to his in-laws and gone back to his job as a doorman at one of his in-laws' company, he must return back to the house in the evening.

He uses all the money he can find in his pocket to buy for Emerald a bouquet of rose flowers.

Her parents have probably told her what he said, and he will need to get into her good graces to be allowed to sleep in their bedroom tonight.

Sleeping in their bedroom doesn't mean he will get to sleep in bed with her.

In fact in their seven years of marriage, Stanley has always been made to sleep on the rug, on the ground, while she takes the king-sized bed.

The only time that Emerald has ever been intimate with him was when they were both very drunk on their wedding night.

Needless to say, she was highly disgusted and made sure it never happened again...

The door of the bedroom has been firmly shut, and the knob won't turn.

"Is Miss Hudson back?" He asks one of the servants.

"She went to a party, and she instructed that you shouldn't be allowed into the room."

"But what if I am tired?"

"I believe she said that it's better to go sleep in the horses' stable if you are so impatient."

Stanley gives the servant girl a sad smile and he remains by the door.

He had no idea that he would be made to wait outside for almost six hours, and he falls asleep.

He wakes up to feel the jab of a heel in his rib, and when he opens his eyes, his wife is hitting him with one of her high-heeled shoes.

"Is this what you do now? Sit on your ass all day and come snoring by my door?" She snorts.

Hearing her voice, he immediately drives all traces of sleep from his eyes and sits up straight.

"Emerald, did you have a nice day at work? I was waiting for you to come back, I even brought flowers..."

He raises them to her, but she scrunches her nose and takes a huge step back.

"Cheap flowers? That's what you have gotten me? Do I look like a road side whore?!"

Stanley's heart is shattered to pieces. These are the same flowers that he used his last coins to purchase.

"I'm- I'm sorry my dear wife. I didn't mean to insult you by getting cheap flowers, but that's all I could–"

"I give you five minutes to get rid of the flowers and come back, or I am going to lock you out again. Do not test my patience, cripple."

Stanley has a very good night's sleep because he got his medicine, and the rug doesn't make a bad bed at all.

He would have slept some more, but he feels as if he has been suddenly plunged into an ice cold pond.

His eyes flings open and that's when he sees his wife, angrily standing over him with an empty bucket in her hand.

"Ha! I can't believe that you are not just crippled, but also lazy! All the servants of the house have woken up, but you choose to sleep into the late morning like the king of this mansion!"

Stanley's lips parts to explain himself. The only reason that he has slept this long was because of how tired he was yesterday, but she doesn't care for his excuses.

"Oh, shut up! Do you think I have time to listen to whatever you have to say when John Plummer just came to visit?!"

Stanley immediately feels his tongue weak in his mouth.

Who doesn't know John Plummer?

He is a wealthy and respected individual in the city, but he is mainly known as the butler of the elite Snow family.

He has worked for the family for more than forty years, and he knows the in and out of the family.

He alone bears their secrets, but he would never reveal it.

In the past years, he has been the spokesperson for the family, as they have decided to remain in their huge mansion and quietly run their business.

What has he come to find in the Hudson household?

Has the young Lord Snow already chosen Emerald to be his bride?

Nevertheless, Stanley gets up and changes to dry clothes, before going to the garden to trim the flowers.

That's one of his chores, because even though he is a son-in-law of the Hudson family, he is no more than a servant.

A golden toilet works the same as a pauper's loo...

Back in the house, Mister Raymond shakes John Plummer's hand heavily as both men laugh.

"I am glad to see that my lord's shares are doing so well," John Plummer smiles heartily. "Lord Snow is happy to hear about the progress made even after his father's death."

"Tell the young Lord Snow that he has nothing to worry about. The Hudson empire is a fierce ally of his!" Mister Hudson nods with much enthusiasm and a mighty grin.

Emerald has been following them around like a quiet mouse.

She has hurriedly put on her best dress and some make-up, so that her beauty can attract the eyes of John Plummer.

They are hoping he will be able to take word of her beauty back to his new boss, so that he will swiftly pick her as a wife...

Her father stylishly pulls her forward, like he didn't even know she has been there all along.

"Oh, look who has just walked in! Mister Plummer, this is my only daughter, Emerald Hudson!"

Emerald is looking all meek and sweet. She even curtsy for the old man, and allows him to kiss her hand.

"Wow, what a beauty," John Plummer says politely.

"She has only returned to the country after spending two weeks doing charity work in Africa," Mister Hudson lies shamelessly. "tell him, Em!"

"Oh, sir, we fed over three hundred thousand children."

"A pious girl," John nods, looking impressed.

"She would make the best wife for your master, wouldn't she?" Mister Hudson suggests. "He won't even have to look that far!"

John Plummer scratches his eyebrow and laughs nervously. "She is a good girl, indeed. I believe the young Lord Snow would be intrigued when he finally meets her at the party you will throw."

Emerald and her father exchange a quick glance. This hasn't gone the way they expected.

John Plummer concludes their business talk, and now, Emerald and her father sees him off to his convoy.

On their way, they meet Stanley by the door, his face stricken with fear as he desperately tries to wheel himself away.

His in-laws have vehemently warned him that he is not to appear in front of important guests whenever they come by the mansion.

It's not his wish for him to show himself to John Plummer, but the wheels of his old wheelchair have started to misbehave again.

John Plummer jaw drops to the ground when he sees Stanley. He is about to say something, but he quickly stops himself.

"Mister Plummer, what's the matter? You look like you have seen a ghost," Emerald says.

"Oh, don't worry about me, child. I'm fine," but he is already sweating profusely, and he wipes his face with a handkerchief.

"I apologize for obstructing the way, sir," Stanley's wheels are moving again, and he tries to disappear as quickly as possible.

"Not so fast, Stanley! Come back and properly apologize to John Plummer! Do you know who he works for?! You have just insulted the high Snow family!" Mister Hudson demands.

"We apologize, sir. This man is nothing but the cripple who tends to our garden," Emerald says.

Stanley feels a jab goes in his heart as his wife calls him a mere gardener, and not her husband, but he keeps his eyes on the ground. He dare not do otherwise.

Before anyone can say anything, something slips from Stanley's curled fingers, and falls loudly to the ground.

It's a golden signet, and it's not just anyone's, it's the same ring that belongs to the late Lord Snow!

How is it that a poor cripple has come to be in possession of such jewelry?!

Everyone, except Mister Gibney bursts into laughter. Who is this unknown man that has walked into this place and is demanding so much respect from Mister Gibney?!"Mister man, have you lost your damn mind?" "Who is your mother that Gibney should suffer some punishment because he insulted her?" But Stanley is calm. He has come for a missing person, and he is going to make sure that he gets it right. Before everyone could even blink twice, Mister Gibney has already knelt down to be punished. "Okay, sir, I accept my punishment, but don't hurt me too much, I am old enough to be your father!" The entire room goes quiet, because they realize that this must be a nice ordinary man. What kind of power does he have over Mister Gibney to make him comply? Stanley just smirks without a care, and then he lifts his walking stick to strike the old man, who is already shaking like a jellyfish. Halfway through, he stops and looks around the room, he is looking at the faces of the servants. "Y

Stanley makes a decision to cut all his hair because of one reason. His mother loved him with very short hair. He used to hate it, he used to cry and beg his father to save him from his mother and her buzzing clippers, but Stanford Snow would chuckle and watch by the door. "That's what a proper gentleman looks like, my boy," she would pull his cheek. "You are the heir of the Snow empire, Stanley. You have to look proper all the time." So, he is attending a very huge dinner party today, and he has decided to shave his head for it. Seven is waiting outside, but his cigarette slips from his lips when he sees how different Stanley looks. "Geez, could have fooled me there for a second," Seven chuckles. "Do you think that your wife would mind?" Stanley laughs. "Lauren is helping me run part of the Snow empire, I'm sure she wouldn't pay too much attention to something as small as this." Both of them are attending this party, and in a small car that won't attract a lot of attention.

"Lauren, you silly girl, do you have a death wish?!" She snaps at her. "Do you?" Lauren snaps right back. "Because we both know that the collaboration between the Hudson and the Snow family is what's making the Hudson family to prosper so much and move up the elite families ranking!" "What? You think this is your doing?!" Emerald cant help but laugh. "You are just a tiny ant without any relevance. We know I'm the reason why the Hudson family is going up the rank! Because of my relationship with Lord Snow!" Lauren huffs at the other end. "Then lets put it to the test, shall we? I won't approve the budget, and let's see how Lord Snow is going to react to that." Emerald's lips twists as veins pops on her neck. "Are you threatening me, Lauren?" She is wondering what gave her cousin so much bravery to speak to

Lauren drags a sharp sigh, feeling her blood boil in her veins.Emerald doesn't see her angry face, instead, she makes herself even more busy with the marketing experts, who she seems to be getting along with so well. Lauren turns around to leave, but Emerald grabs her hand and pulls her to the side. "Where the hell do you think you are going?!" "Home. Seems like I'm not needed here, and you want to make me your slave," Lauren folds her hands. "Why don't I leave, while you continue to laugh and talk with your new friends?" Emerald chuckles shortly and puts her hand on Lauren's shoulder. "You think this is what it's about? I'm trying to make you my slave? You are not even happy that I didn't bring up the outrageous thing that Stanley did?" Lauren's face is immediately drained of colour. The one person she doesn't want to offend is Lord Snow. He has a lot of trust in Stanley, and she doesn't want that to be ruined for them. "What did Stanley do?" Lauren's lips quiver as she hold

    56. Lauren did not tell her husband about the odd call she got from her cousin at the very early hours of the morning. To her, this is something that she can handle by herself. She doesn't want to give the dress to Emerald, because it's too expensive, and Tiffany Shade confirmed that it's one of a kind. What if Stanley ever asks for it and she can't provide it? Her driver takes her to Snow headquarters, and to her utmost surprise, Paris, Lord Snow's assistant, is standing by the door. "Mrs Adkins!" Paris waves at her with so much happiness. She bows slightly before they hug and then she reliefs her of her bag. "Oh, Paris, I have told you countless times that you don't have to stand by the door to wait for me!" Paris just laughs, but she doesn't tell her that she is doing this because she doesn't want anyone to disrespect Lord Snow's wife on her watch. She will just pretend that she likes to help Lauren with her bag. "Mrs Adkins, I think it's high time you finally accept an o

55Lauren has stepped out onto the balcony to pick up her cousin's call. Stanley is asleep on the bed already, at least that's what she thinks, and she thought that her cousin is calling her for an emergency. How's she supposed to know that the emergency is her cousin demanding the most trendy dress of the week? "What?" She screws her face. "Didn't you swear years ago that I was a pig and that you would never wear anything that has touched my body?" Emerald scoffs at the other end of the phone. "This doesn't count, okay? It's not like the dress is actually yours." "It's mine! My husband bought it for me!" Lauren defends herself. "No, he didn't, Stanley is a common pauper, how can he afford such a thing?! He obviously raided Lord Snow's closet and got that dress for you!" Emerald says. "Can't you see that I'm doing you a favor? Everyone thinks Lord Snow's fiancee wore it, and we know that it's clearly not you." Lauren shuts her eyes and shakes her head. "Lauren, how sure are y
