Damien’s eyes narrowed into crescent moons as he stared at her. It immediately gave off the impression that he was suspicious of what she said.
Seeing this, Freya shuddered and explained further. “I’m not lying to you. I swear. I felt terrible for what I did, but it’s not like I can go against such a powerful family. I’m just like a small fry to them.” She paused to catch her breath before continuing. “I spent days unable to eat, knowing I’ve wronged an innocent man and put him in jail. I couldn’t afford to lose my parents; that's why I did what I did. Please forgive me.” “You don’t look like someone who has been hunted by her conscience!” Damien huffed coldly, still unmoved by her words. Freya was on the verge of saying something when his words caught her off guard. She had no choice but to keep quiet as she knew he wasn’t buying all that she was saying. “I will come visit you soon!” Damien suddenly stood up and turned to face the door. Freya nearly breathed out in relief as she saw he was about to leave which meant, she was safe and wouldn't have to die today. “Also, because I am leaving doesn't mean I have forgiven you for what you have done. The Beckham family killed my parents and sister, yet you covered for them.” He then took a few steps before continuing. “Though your reasons might be justifiable, that doesn’t call for forgiveness from me. If you had told me right from the start about it all, I would have known what to do.” He suddenly turned towards her, giving her a great chill. A smile was on his face all through, but there was a very deep pain, anger, and hatred in his eyes that couldn’t go unnoticed. He began to walk towards her instead, and her breath caught. She felt he had changed his mind and was coming to take her life instead. Damien had every reason to punish her for what she had done, but now wasn’t the time. When he got to her, he looked down at her before patting her on the shoulders. “Don’t worry, I am going to find out whether you are lying to me or not.” He smirked. He was letting her enjoy the moment if at all she thought she could fool him. She couldn't eat for days? She felt guilty? All that felt so pathetic to him. She was very bold when she stepped out to give a statement against him that day. Surprisingly, she waited until she had gathered all the evidence he struggled to get, only for her to twist it in favor of the Beckham family while turning him into the villain. “If you did, your fate would be much worse than you think.” He added with a smile before turning away He had no reason to linger around since she had sent out his warning. He didn't care if she had thoughts of running away or calling for help. In fact, even if she did, it wouldn't make a difference. He had yet to see anyone who could win against him in a fight for now. If she wanted to consult the Beckham family for help, she could as well wait to be crushed alongside them. If she wanted to leave the country, even if she went on to hide in a cave, he was going to find her. The only way she could escape was if what she just said was true. Damien began to walk towards the door; however, in the next moment, his figure soon blurred into the surroundings before vanishing as if it was never there. Freya felt her heart skip a beat as she watched him. However, the next thing that popped into her head was to get away, to safety once and for all. She stood up from the floor and hurried over to the desk. Her hand was still trembling as she picked up her phone and began scrolling through, searching through her contact list. She found a number and dialed it. Before the call would connect, she had anxiously begun pacing around the place back and forth. “Hello,” the call was soon picked up, and a lazy voice echoed from the other side. “Dan, book me a flight at once.” She said impatiently. “A flight? What for? Where are you going? The voice inquired. “Stop asking questions. I want the flight scheduled first thing tomorrow morning. I don't mind first class. I don't mind paying double too. Just get it done, okay!” She instructed. “Okay, sure. I'll get it done.” Freya hung up and placed the phone back on the desk. She then went on to start arranging a few important files into a box and putting away some files she didn't need. She also trashed the evidence that linked her to the Beckham family. In less than an hour, she was done. Occasionally, she would look at the door in a panic as though Damien would pop out of it yet again. When he didn't, she felt relieved at least. By the time she was done, she had piled up the significant files she needed in a box with her bag before heading off to the exit. She was leaving, for good, before Damien would come to find her again. And more importantly, there was no turning back.Latest Chapter
Two lab rats
“A trick?” Moses gasped in shock for a brief moment before asking.“Sure. I want to see the trick you want to put on!” He replied, frowning deeply. His words might have come out sarcastically, but it didn’t matter to Damien.“I need two lab rats!” Damien lifted two fingers in the air as he spoke. Moses wanted to see where it would lead to after all. He turned and left the ward for a brief moment to ask his men to bring them over.Maya stared at Damien, but this time she didn’t have an expectant look on her face; instead, she was filled with so much doubt. She didn’t know what Damien was trying to prove, but she was having an ominous premonition that it would all lead to a dead end.Everyone kept watching in curiosity. Even Mrs. Pamela, Moses' wife, who had a pale face after crying for so long and was so mute due to the shock of losing her son, was now curious as to what was going to unfold next. The doctors were just as intrigued. Damien seemed to have greater talent than he wanted
A magic trick
Everyone stared at Damien, puzzled. Apparently, he sounded like someone who had lost his sense of reasoning or perhaps he had bumped his head off somewhere and could no longer think properly with his brain. At least if his brain was that useless, his eyes should be able to see that the patient who was lying in the bed was no longer breathing and had become so pale that even at a first glance, one would be able to tell he was dead. But in Damien's case, that didn’t seem to be it. Unless, he was trying to add more salt to the wound, deliberately. Moses began to fume in rage. His chest was heaving as though he was being pumped with so much anger and hatred and would soon unleash it upon Damien ruthlessly.“Damien, I don’t know what you are trying to prove, but you should just stay put and keep shut!”Aria immediately pulled Damien forcefully to the back. She had a feeling that he would bring nothing but trouble the moment she saw him; that was why she had been looking at him like he was
There’s no need for violence
“What?”Maya gasped in shock, almost losing her balance on the floor. Her eyes widened after her face became so ashen. She was trying hard not to believe what she just heard. Not just her but Aria too. Both of them looked back at the bed and without going to confirm, they were sure the man was dead. Even the doctors who stood by the side had gloomy faces as they weren't able to save him.Damien who just walked in, noticed all this, the tension in the air; however, he was perplexed as to how it was affiliated with Maya.“You aren't saying anything yet? Have you not made your decision already?” The man, Moses continued. His eyes were piercing daggers at her as he emitted killing intent. If he could swap Maya's life to bring his son back, he would have done it a long time ago. Both Maya and Aria trembled upon hearing his words again. Maya inhaled deeply, deciding to be calm about it. “I can't choose!” She said.“Hahahaha, what a nice joke.” Moses burst out chuckling. “I knew you were g
I’ll give you two choices
Moments later, Damien arrived back at Moonlight Corporation. As he stood by the entrance, he thought about calling Maya to give him directions to her office, or if she could come down or send someone to come pick him up.Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a familiar voice from up ahead. “We need to hurry!” He looked and saw it was Maya walking alongside someone else— a woman clad in a suit, both of them had a tough yet panicked expression still as they hurried off. Damien couldn't help but wonder if she had yet to resolve what she was bothered about or not. Regardless, he approached them.“Damien, you are back?” Maya caught a glance of him as they were about to take a turn into the parking lot.She managed to squeeze out a smile as she looked at him while her assistant, Aria seized him up, wondering who he was.“Yes, I'm back. I see you are heading somewhere.” Damien inquired.“Ooh yes. You can wait around in the company until I'm back.” She suggested. Afrerall, whate

It wasn’t intentional
Damien instantly chuckled lightly when he saw the expression that emerged on her face. She was shocked to see him to the point that she was almost falling off the chair she was sitting on.“You put me there, yet you have forgotten the day of my release?” He raised a brow at her.Freya, the lady, swallowed hard. She wanted to say something but it suddenly felt like a bone was stuck in her throat. All she could do was grip the chair handle tightly as Damien's eyes were so penetrating, like he was the Grim Reaper who had come to collect her life. After all, she knew what she did. She was the lawyer who was helping him with the case years ago, until she decided to side with his enemies and framed him for fabricating the evidence. She was enjoying life with the benefits she had gotten from putting him behind bars, forgetting that he would ever be released.Smiling, Damien walked over and took a seat.“Since I am here, I want to see how you are doing.” He said. However, Freya knew there wa
