The EXIT Interview Alexis' Last Breath
A swam of armed police officers and special forces arrived at the scene and quickly besieged the train. Guns and all manner of riot gear were at full display. At the signal of the superiors, the units charged forward with caution and a well- oiled intent to assault in self-defence. But, Mr. Zero and his team had already fled the scene. Deacon, the senior most amid the special forces, emerged from the unregistered vehicle and marched to the train. He was the only who seemed unconcerned about his safety. Mr. Zero, clad in a pair of new chinos and a lovely shirt and looking fresh, sat behind the wheel of the van that he had brought to a stop outside the local child welfare department. Ruti, dressed in a beautiful black dress, took her place on the passenger's seat. She held a medium- sized envelope in her sweaty palms. She exhaled and turned to Mr. Zero. "Wish me luck." She said, "Pray for me." Mr. Zero smiled and looked back at her and said, "It is well." He reached for her hand and gently clamped it in his hand. Ruti, still keeping her eyes on him, nodded and stepped out of the van. Mr. Zero watched her as she walked quickly to the entrance of the local child welfare department. Inside a fast moving train, Mr. Zero stood in front of a mirror. He gazed at his reflection that was clad in a pristine black suit, white shirt and a black necktie. His fairly well- built body stemmed from a pair of mintly polished shoes.His hands trembled lightly. In them, was a small picture of his wife kneeling by a wheelchair on which his lame son sat.A gentle knock was heard and the door slid open to the room opened. A man dressed in the same colors as Mr. Zero walked in and announced, "She is ready for you." Mr. Zero nodded his head andtook in a deep breath before taking another look at himself in the mirror. And with that ritual done, he walked out of the room after the man. After a short walk along the isle of the fast, yet smooth, moving train, the Man stopped at a room. Silence swept through the black SUV as The driver cruised on the highway to the airport.Mr. Zero held on to the small box in his hands. Clearly, he was lost in thought. Ahead of him was a future that was punctuated with uncertainty and fear. And behind him, stood memories of his involvements with his wife, Martin and Step son, Chris, and the program.The driver kept on tossing his eyes between the road and the rear mirror. By the strict observance of time, it was five minutes after 3pm. Martina sat at the reserved table number two. Mr. Zero was nowhere to be seen at the famed local two- star hotel. The dining area was lightly patronized with men and women who indulged in the food, wine and hearty conversations. The majority of which were Police officers disguised as ordinary customers. Of course, they were armed but their weapons were concealed from an unsuspecting eye. Ten minutes past 3pm, a waiter Carrying a beautiful bouquet of roses and bottle of wine walked to Martina and announced, “Someone brought you this.” Receiving the items, Martina quickly opened the note that was attached.
