3. The Path of Cultivation

Silence reigned all around. A drop of blood from the tip of Gaiyou Sword fell to the ground, causing Linfen to shudder at the sight. He looked at the people lying haphazardly on the ground, their faces as pale as paper, and the stench of blood made Linfen vomited. 

He didn't know how long he had vomited; his face was completely bloodless, and waves of dizziness rushed straight to his head. He didn't even know how he got back to his room. After he woke up, the horrifying scene kept replaying in his mind, refusing to leave, and cold sweat kept pouring down his forehead.

In the open space not far from the thatched hut, Gaiyu, dressed in white, recalled Linfen's expression when he saw that scene, and felt the pent-up emotions in his heart erupt from his chest, making him want to roar to the sky. 

Suddenly, he drew his sword, a cold glint appearing as a sharp sword aura, mixed with an unparalleled momentum, soared straight into the sky. 

Afterimages appeared, and profound sword moves emanated from his hands, each with its own mysterious aura. 

With a heart at ease, sword intent erupted, sometimes like falling petals, sometimes like scorching snow in winter. The remaining spiritual energy surged out and surrounded him. At this moment, he was all alone, freely unleashing the sword intent in his heart. 

His left hand extended a claw, his right hand held a sword; his movements were as swift as the wind and as powerful as a dragon. Sonic booms echoed around him.  

Fallen leaves, carried by the wind, eventually coalesced into a massive energy storm that swept upwards. The sky seemed to darken instantly, filled with sword lights. 

Gaiyu let out a deep breath, turned his gaze to Linfen who had arrived at some point, his serious face showing a hint of doting, patted Linfen's little head, and sighed softly. "To walk the path of greatness, you have to go through these things sooner or later. There will be many more things like this in the future. You must learn to adapt. Since you are cultivating, you must be prepared!” 

Seeing Gaiyu's suddenly cold expression, Linfen was slightly shocked. It was the first time he had seen Gaiyu with such an expression, which made him feel a little scared. With the chill of the dim night, he shivered involuntarily. "I... I don't know if I can kill anyone. I just want to find my parents and spend every happy day with them and you, Uncle Gai." 

"Your idea is good, but how easy is it to achieve it? The path of cultivation is extremely dangerous, and the road ahead is full of unknowns. You have dreams, but to achieve them, you must have a strong heart and make yourself stronger." Gaiyu said, emphasizing each word with great seriousness and earnestness. “Always remember this…”   

Linfen nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite. "I will definitely become strong, and I will find my parents!"  

Hearing his naive yet firm answer, Gaiyu was slightly surprised. Then he sighed, sheathed his sword, and walked forward.  

Linfen looked at Gaiyu walking into the distance with a puzzled expression, shook his little head, and followed him with a silly grin. 

"We can no longer stay here. Let's find another place, which is safer and will be more beneficial to your cultivation!" 

"Uncle Gai? Where are we going?" Linfen looked up and asked innocently, his young face full of confusion.  

"The Starry Night Forest."

The Starry Night Forest, located at the junction of the western and central regions, was a vast forest teeming with rare and exotic beasts and countless tempting rare fruits. For cultivators, it was nothing short of a paradise. 

However, fortune and danger were hand in hand, and this place was also filled with endless peril. Powerful savage beasts, ferocious magical creatures, and terrifying outlaws who killed and robbed for treasures add an element of uncertainty and crisis to this forest. 

On this day, at the entrance to the Starry Night Forest, Gaiyu and Linfen, arrived. Their combination drew everyone's attention.  

"Who would be so lost as to bring a child to such a place?" 

"It's nothing but trouble." 

Ignoring the opinions of others, Gaiyu stopped when he reached a point slightly closer to the center of the Starry Night Great Forest. He nodded in satisfaction at the surrounding environment. 

"We rest today, and start your cultivation tomorrow." 

"Okay, Uncle Gai."

As the evening breeze broke the dawn, a lazy beam of sunlight shone from the distant horizon. The glistening dewdrops, with their bright radiance, jolted people awake.  

It was already late autumn, with a slight chill in the air, but this could not dampen someone's passion for learning or their boundless energy. 

In the hazy mist, Linfen ran around, seemingly chasing and playing, but clearly not. Gaiyu smiled wryly to himself; this kid was really eager. He smiled and said. "Little Lin, stop. It's time I tell you about the cultivation world first." 

Upon hearing this, Linfen swiftly sat down next to Gaiyu.  

The speed of his movement made Gaiyu's lips twitch slightly. Looking at Linfen, who was staring at him with wide eyes, Gaiyu smiled awkwardly. This little guy seemed to be quite interested in this. 

"Linfen, listen carefully. I'll only explain these basics once. It's on you if you don't remember them." Gaiyu glanced at Linfen and began to speak to himself. 

"As cultivators, strictly speaking, we are no different from ordinary people. They just know more fighting techniques and have special abilities. After cultivating to a certain level, we can sense the existence of special energy in this world. The basis for guiding this energy lies in the mental power of the human body itself." At this point, Gaiyu paused, looking at Linfen's slightly dim eyes, and continued, "Although mental power is the foundation of cultivators, the level of cultivation does not represent the level of combat power. You must remember this!" 

Even though he knew Gaiyu was trying to comfort her, Linfen still felt a warmth in his heart and nodded slightly, the gloom in his eyes immediately fading considerably. 

Seeing Linfen's appearance, Gaiyu sighed inwardly, then said in a deep voice, "Don't be discouraged. There's another way you might be able to cultivate mental power. You will need a catalyst. As for now, you must strengthen your body to a certain level. This is the only way." 

Gaiyu's expression immediately turned serious, and his deep voice, as if possessing a magical power, completely captivated Linfen's attention. 

"After cultivating to a certain level, any cultivator will awaken their own unique abilities, or rather, essence powers. At that time, reaching the Immortal Martial Realm, or even the Ancestral Emperor Realm will be possible." 

"Uncle Gai, what level have you reached?" Linfen, the curious child, asked. 

"Let's not talk about it!"

"And what about my father? What level did he reach?" 

"I don't know. No one knows what level your father has reached. All we know is that his skill is unparalleled and his cultivation is unprecedented. Perhaps he has reached the legendary realm!" Gaiyu sighed, and continued. “Cultivation is a never-ending process; who can truly know for sure? Being invincible here doesn't mean anything. In the vast continent and the boundless starry sky, there may be even more incredible beings. As for your father, you must find him yourself. I am merely playing a guiding role, and this is also your father's wish!” 

"Uncle Gaiyu, please tell me who my father is." 

Upon hearing this, Gaiyu's expression changed drastically, then became extremely serious. He said, "I can't tell you that now. You'll know when you're strong enough in the future. Also, I will give you a storage ring to keep your ancient jade." 

"Thank you, uncle Gai." 

"From today onwards, you must be prepared to endure hardship. Cultivation is not something to be taken lightly; one wrong move and your life could be in danger!" 

"Yes, I understand. I will cultivate diligently from now on." 

"That's enough, let's begin your cultivation!" 

"Okay, Uncle Gai!"
