Ethan was surprised by the way Orion spoke to him and referring to him as 'young master'

He knew that Orion was a person of influence and he looked forward to meeting him but he would've laughed at anyone who told him that Orion would one day refer to him with such respect.

Ethan wanted to act modest and reject the offer but he also wanted to escape the many eyes that were boring holes in his face. Plus, Orion already told him not to reject his offer.

Axel tagged along as Ethan followed Orion.

The guests were still stunned by what just happened in front of them. Their gazes were still pinned on him as he walked away from the crowd into the VIP section.

"Oh my God, he truly isn't an ordinary man!"

"I think we made a mistake. We accused him wrongly."

"We should apologise before he comes for us too!"

"To think that Logan was all talk and no action? I regret hyping him up!" 

The sidetalks continued until they died down and a fresh set of noises resumed in the VIP section.

There were fewer guests who were dressed in utmost sophistication. They clinked glasses and took sips from their cups.

"Please sit." 

Orion didn't stop there, he walked into a room that was almost unnoticeable and gestured to the two swivel chairs that were opposite his chair.

Axel who had followed Ethan settled into the seat first before Ethan did.

"I am sorry for what happened today. I should have been there earlier." Orion apologised, referring to the event that had just unfolded at the auction hall.

"I guess it's important for people such as those two to be taught lessons." Ethan replied with a shrug.

"Please," 

Orion said as he handed Ethan and Axel a glass each and he opened a wine.

"I would like the item I purchased to be packed." Ethan said as he let Orion pour him a drink.

He had known about auctions but this was his first ever to partake. He didn't want to take chances or forget it at the end of the day.

To him, the ring was more than a means to prove himself right, there was something intriguing about the ring that made him want to purchase it and he needed to figure it out as soon as he could.

"Of course, sir." Orion replied with several respectful nods.

"They are already packaging it for you. I just brought you here to ease you off the stress and take you away from the prying eyes back there. Besides, you are a VIP now." 

"Thank you for your hospitality, but I can handle myself well." Ethan spoke with appreciation.

If he had let Ethan stay back, there is no telling what could happen. There were a lot of eyes and a lot of people who wanted to gain influence and wanted to be close to influential people.

They could gather Ethan and make him give out his personal information even though he didn't want to. And even though Ethan handles himself well, he might inherit some enemies who might not like his response and might begin to plot against him.

Axel sat beside Ethan, her head bobbing in agreement to what Orion said and a smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.

She had told them that Ethan was not the average wealthy man they used to see everyday and interact with but they had thought that she was insane.

And she enjoyed seeing the shame on their faces when they were dragged outside the hall. Ethan was finally getting the respect he deserved and she was all for it.

"Actually, I called you in here to tell you that I was told to protect you." Orion chimed with a serious expression that had Ethan raise a brow.

"What do you mean?" 

"Someone told me to." Orion replied again.

Okay, this was getting weird and maybe a little creepy, or maybe strange was the better word.

"Who told you to protect me?" Ethan asked, wondering who that could be.

He didn't have any family he remembered. The only thing he remembered for years was when and how he was saved by Amelia's father.

They were his family, the family he had gotten used to even though they treated him unfairly and always stepped over him. He tried to help and make them happy even though their demands were overboard.

So he had no idea who would want him to be safe. The last encounter he had with the only family he knew was the one at the bank and that didn't end well for them to want him to be safe.

"I think her name was Ava. She mentioned the Nexus Global Group. A renowned conglomerate. And she told me that I had to make sure you were unharmed and untouched. The message I received from her was what delayed me from coming out sooner than I should have."

"Nexus Global Group?"

Orion explained and Axel's mouth fell open. She knew that Ethan was not from an ordinary family but she didn't think that he would be linked to the Nexus group. The biggest business group ever heard of.

She had been trying to get into their family and get close to a family member but they had managed to remain lowkey.

No matter how hard she tried, she never got to see them and now that she was told that Ethan was one of them, she couldn't hide her shock.

Ethan was calm all through Orion's speech and it made Axel confirm that he truly was affiliated with Nexus group.

"So Ava contacted you huh?" Ethan said calmly as though he was contemplating on what to say next.

Ava was the person who met him at his job and told him that he had another identity even he himself knew nothing about. Hearing that she had called Orion to tell him this.

It meant that she knew that he was going to the auction. He knew his movements. And it made him wonder what else she knew about him.

Or what else he might find out if he spoke to her and gave her a listening ear.

Shortly after, a man clad in a crisp black suit brought the item Ethan had purchased. It was wrapped in a gift box but Ethan checked it just to be sure. And when he was certain that everything was intact, he stood to his feet and extended a hand to Orion who took it immediately with a bow.

"Thank you for your purchase sir, I hope to see you next time." He offered him a card which Ethan took before leaving the office.
