"Huh?" Sarah blinked, not believing her ears.

"Grandmother, I don't quite understand?" She frowned, her expression already darkening like the cloud.

"I said divorce him," Mabel repeated, not caring about the frown etched on Sarah's face.

"Why?" Sarah questioned, her fist clenched tightly as she stared at her grandmother.

"Because I said so," Mabel snorted, her voice cold as she stared back at Sarah.

"I'm sorry, I can't," Sarah refused, shaking her head.

"How dare you disobey me?" Mabel's brows narrowed as she stared at Sarah.

"He's just an illegitimate son of the Raven family, destined never to achieve anything in this life," she scoffed, her gaze landing on Jeremy.

"Divorce him and get married to Kelvin instead; that way the bond between our families would become even stronger," she urged, her tone laid with urgency.

"I'm sorry, but I can't do that," Sarah refused, shaking her head, her voice firm, leaving no room for arguments.

"What exactly do you see in a loser like him, huh?" Mabel snapped, glaring at Sarah.

"He gave me back my face, giving me a second chance at life; so why should I abandon him because of what you said?" Sarah defended Jeremy, her voice calm.

Moving closer to him, she held his hands and continued,

"Unless he agrees to divorce me, then in this life, only him shall I be married to."

Jeremy chuckled slightly, looking at Sarah who looked determined. That was a good thing.

Though he was expecting this, he didn't expect her to protect him to this extent.

"Sister, what did you see in this useless bumpkin?" Denis took a glance at Jeremy then turned back to Sarah.

"None of your business, Denis," Sarah scoffed, rolling her eyes.

"Besides, I'm not your sister, so don't ever call me that again."

"Sarah, you can't say that; Denis is still your brother no matter what," Mabel spoke, eyes on Jeremy this time.

"Besides, he's just looking out for you. Staying with that trash would only hold you down."

"Listen to us and divorce him," she added, her voice sounding like she was giving peerless advice.

Jeremy, on the other hand, couldn't help but shake his head as he chuckled lightly. Seemed like this family's level of hypocrisy was far more than he had thought.

They had no idea how he had treated their daughter. Many famous doctors had declared that there was nothing they could do and unless she died and was reborn, nothing could save her.

But somehow, he had restored the face and the next thing they could think of was divorce.

Surely, they didn't think he was more skilled than those famous doctors.

"I'm not going to divorce him no matter what, so it's better you stop trying to convince me," Sarah's sharp voice echoed, shaking her head.

Hearing this, Mabel's expression changed. She had known her granddaughter long enough to know that once she decided on things, then it would be extremely hard to change her mind.

So she turned to Jeremy.

"Divorce Sarah and the family will give you a million as compensation." She offered, the disgust in her tone evident.

"Grandmother, you're still so generous; I'm sure that hillbilly has never seen even a hundred thousand before," Denis laughed, disdain also apparent in his voice.

"Hey, hurry up and accept it; Grandmother is offering you such a good deal; do you think you have the right to refuse?"

"Yes, he should be kowtowing in gratitude right now."

"After all, one million is enough to set him up for life."

The other members of the Edwin family present sneered, their voices getting more arrogant with each second.

Sarah, on the other hand, clenched her fist but didn't say anything and only watched, wanting to see what Jeremy would say.

If he agreed, then there was no need to keep him here and if he refused, she would protect him with all that she had.

Jeremy, on the other hand, was a bit amused with Mabel's offer. One million?

How stingy.

The family's entire business was worth at least a billion and yet they wanted to chase him away with just a million.

How ridiculous was that.

"I'm sorry, but I can't accept your offer," Jeremy shook his head, refusing the money.

"But..."

"My husband said he doesn't need your money; besides, if he needs money I can give it to him," Sarah interrupted Mabel, who was about to say something.

"Sister, since you like defending your husband so much, how about we make a little bet?" Denis's eyes suddenly lit up as he said,

"I said I'm not your sister..." Sarah snapped.

"Don't worry about that; listen to me first," Denis chuckled, ignoring Sarah's anger.

"The Ravencroft family would be holding a banquet in two days and I heard that Mr. Jian of the Bai family would be attending," Denis stated, the smile on his face widened as he spoke.

Hearing this, Sarah's expression darkened, realizing something was wrong.

The Ravencroft family was a first-tier family in the city and the Bai family was another family from the Capital.

Just one word from them, they could cause all the first-tier families in Oakridge to go bankrupt.

"So what you need to do is simple," Denis's voice came, pulling Sarah back to her senses.

"Get Mr. Jian to invest ten million in our company." Denis concluded, the smile on his face still there as he watched Sarah.

"I..." Sarah stuttered, not knowing how to respond.

This was definitely a trap. There was no way she would succeed. The Bai family was extremely hard to please.

And if she were to make even a single mistake, she could end up affecting everyone.

Then she would become the sinner of the Edwin family.

"What are the stakes?" Sarah asked, raising a brow.

"If you fail, you'll divorce that illegitimate son and marry Kelvin, then maybe there might be a chance for you to secure the investment if you two work together," Denis answered, sounding rather smug.

"And if I win?" Sarah's expression darkened, knowing she had no way out of this.

"Simple," Denis laughed.

"The family will never disturb you and your useless

husband. If anyone tries, I'll be the first to oppose them."
