On the second morning, the public channel discovered Ethan.

It began with rankings.

[Regional Notice: First Dead Sea territory to stabilize a damaged core.]

[Name hidden by ancient concealment.]

[Reward: 1 low-grade repair voucher.]

The zone channel erupted at once.

“Dead Sea has survivors?”

“Stabilized already? Impossible.”

“Cole Group offers protection contracts for useful information.”

Cole influence had entered the sea world faster than he remembered. Richard always moved early when rankings appeared. In the first timeline, Ethan had been too poor to notice.

Mira leaned over his shoulder. “Cole Group. Related to you?”

“Worse than monsters, because monsters admit what they want.”

A small raft drifted outside the boundary. Two boys and one girl stood on it. All eighteen. All wet, hungry, and armed with sharpened poles.

Their leader raised both hands. “We don’t want trouble. We want water. Trade.”

Mira whispered, “The rear one is hiding a hook rope.”

Ethan saw it. Beginner protection prevented direct attacks on territory, but loopholes existed. They could steal from outside, lure monsters in, or sabotage floating lines.

“What trade?” Ethan asked.

Ethan nodded. “Throw one bundle to the boundary stone. We test it.”

The leader’s smile tightened. “You think we poison strangers?”

Ethan lifted his hand and activated the fence warning charge using the eel core sliver.

Mira stepped into view with her spear. “Trade fair or leave.”

Ethan made a quick decision. Letting the shark eat them would save water but create blood scent and future enemies. Helping might gain information.

Ethan threw a crab shell tied to cord into the water near the boundary. The shark snapped at the movement. Mira hurled her spear into its gill slit.

“I saved my water from becoming bait,” Ethan said. “Now trade honestly.”

The ashamed girl stepped forward. “We have two clean nails, one canvas strip, and news.”

Mira looked at Ethan. “News can be worth water.”

“Cole Group is buying Dead Sea coordinates,” the girl said. “A rich boy named Julian posted a bounty for anyone with signs of a hidden territory showing blue light.”

Julian feared comparison even when he did not know the opponent’s name. In the first life, he had mocked Ethan’s Dead Sea start. Now he was already hunting blue light.

Ethan traded one pot of clean water and crab meat for the nails, canvas, and a promise to warn others not to test his fence.

After they drifted off, Mira said, “You made a friend out of the girl, not the leader.”

The trade allowed the Basic Dock Frame.

They built it on the north side, where the reef broke waves. Ethan used the repair voucher to finish the missing braces. The System consumed nails, canvas, shell stakes, and core energy.

[Basic Dock Frame complete.]

[Small craft mooring available.]

[Fishing line option unlocked.]

Ethan finally posted on the zone trade channel through an anonymous ruin mask.

“Dead Sea survivor trading safe route hints for low-grade wood, nails, or clean cloth. No coordinates. No protection contracts.”

One survivor in a safer zone traded three planks for a warning about black tide signs. Another traded fishhooks for Ethan’s method to test kelp rot.

Then a private message arrived through a Cole broker.

“Identify yourself. Cole Group rewards talent. Refusal may affect future rescue priority.”

At that same hour, far across another sea zone, Julian Cole stared at the ranking notice in his polished starting cabin.

His territory had three rooms, supplied by family-linked transfer assets. Servants could not enter the apocalypse with him, but wealth had bought guides, preloaded contracts, and allies.

Still, the ranking mocked him.

Dead Sea. Stabilized core. Blue light.

Julian threw a cup against the wall.

“Find him,” he told the five survivors already tied to Cole contracts. “Whoever that is, I want his core, his route, and his name.”

Back in the Dead Sea, Ethan felt no chill from Julian’s order, but he knew the shape of it.

“We need more than a hut now,” he said.

“Because of Cole?”

Not an attack. A signal from the Blue Dragon Seed Core pointing deeper into the Dead Sea.

Ethan opened the core menu and saw a new build option flicker.

[Ruin Beacon: Requires 3 monster cores, driftwood, copper wire.]

She tied the last knot. “Then we gather cores before the rich boy gathers men.”

They made a short plan and divided tasks. Ethan would scavenge wreckage along the lee side for copper wire and driftwood. Mira would hunt smaller monsters for cores — raptors and swamp eels — avoiding anything that smelled like a pack. Each monster core would cost a unit of stamina and two spare shell stakes to extract cleanly.

They set concrete goals. Two nights of scavenging for driftwood and wire. Three monster cores within five days. The beacon’s materials would be consumed by construction and by the core’s own hunger for energy.

“If Cole offers payment, we ignore it,” Ethan said. “No protection contracts. They want control, not trade.”

Mira nodded. “We use information, not signatures. We tip others about test methods, keep coordinates hidden, and sell safe passage only for supplies.”

The plan felt practical. It kept public pressure working for them rather than destroying them.

That afternoon Julian’s broker posted a separate public bounty: fifty ration packets and two low-grade repair vouchers for anyone who could bring a confirmed trace of blue light, alive or recorded. The amount was clear. The bait was professional.

Ethan watched the channel. Several replies promised routes for a single large payment. Others offered to betray small groups for a ration packet.

He replied once more through the ruin mask: “Will trade safe hints and test methods for gear. No coordinates, no contracts. Bring proof of safe barter.”

A message came from a survivor named Hyun in a neighboring reef: “Can trade two copper wire scraps for one broken compass. Meet at tide cross tomorrow noon.”

Ethan agreed and planned the route. Public pressure had forced action, but it also created markets he could use. He would spend one repair voucher on a pulley to salvage heavier wire, and trade the canvas strip plus a clean nail for the broken compass Hyun asked for.

Mira cocked an eyebrow. “You’ll risk a voucher for a pulley?”

“Pulley speeds scavenging,” Ethan said. “Faster salvage means more wire, and more wire means a beacon sooner. A beacon brings survivors who trade, not just hunters who loot.”

She shrugged. “Smart.”

They left at first light the next day. Ethan kept the hut’s interior dark, his fence set to warn-only, and his route short. He did not post coordinates. He would not hand Julian names on a platter.

The safe approach still existed, but the obvious path now crossed a shallow reef lined with shell spikes and storm-rope snares.Mira watched from the dock. “He brought more than hunters.”“He brought an audience.”Julian’s lead boat stopped outside beginner-protection range. He wore polished armor that had never met a crab claw. His hair was perfect despite the salt wind.A public broadcast shell floated over his shoulder.“Dead Sea occupants,” Julian announced. “I am Julian Cole of the Cole Group. The third attempt produced a new structure and one System warning about instability.[Floating Foundation Frame: Basic.][Requires: 20 wood units, 8 shell plates, 3 low-grade cores, storm-treated rope, labor time: 9 hours.]They had half the wood and no storm-treated rope.So the day became trade, salvage, and trust management.Lani proved useful first. She remembered where a supply raft had lodged after the storm. Mira led a two-person salvage team while Ethan stayed to manage the core and watch recruits. The one recruit who worried him was Tomas Reed.Tomas had arrived with Lani’s second survivor group near midnight. Six survivors rode them. They stayed just outside the territory boundary, which meant someone had explained beginner protection.Their leader wore a clean blue coat with the Cole crest stitched over the heart. Not family. A paid contract hunter. He raised a speaking shell. “Dead Sea survivor. Cole Group offers rescue and patronage. Lower your fence and submit core inspection.”Mira muttered, “That sounds friendly if words mean nothing.”The hunter smiled. “Beginner protection prevents us from attacking your territory directly. It does not prevent salvage, monster driving, or lawful trade enforcement.”
