Lorenzo sat at the balcony, staring into space. He had just signed the papers hours ago; he still couldn’t believe any of it. The night was quiet except for the steady sound of rain hitting the tiles. The air was cold, but he didn’t feel it. His mind was too full.

He leaned back and let out a slow breath. Everything felt heavy. Just a few hours ago, he had been betrayed by the love of his life, beaten up, and now—he owned a lot of properties, companies, and was the grandson of Adrian Byers?

His chest tightened a little. He ran his hand through his hair and closed his eyes for a moment, trying to steady himself. The soft rain was the only thing calming his soul at the moment.

After a while, he heard footsteps behind him.

“Lorenzo.”

He opened his eyes but didn’t turn. He didn’t have to. Judging by the voice, it was Derek.

Derek stepped onto the balcony, stopping a short distance away. “Your grandfather wants to see you again.”

Lorenzo didn’t move immediately. Instead, he just stared at the dark sky anxiously, as if hoping the rain would somehow wash away the feeling building inside him.

“I’ll go,” he finally said quietly.

He pushed himself up from the chair and followed Derek back inside. The warm lights of the hallway felt too sharp for his tired eyes, but he kept walking. Derek didn’t say anything else. He simply matched Lorenzo’s pace, steady and silent.

When they reached Adrian’s door, one of the guards stepped aside and opened it.

Lorenzo entered the room slowly.

Adrian was awake, though his breathing was shallow. His eyes lit up a little when he saw Lorenzo.

“Come closer,” Adrian whispered.

Lorenzo moved to the chair beside the bed and sat down. He was still dressed in his tattered, worn-out clothes—the same ones he had arrived in that afternoon. Seeing him like that made Adrian’s expression soften with something close to pain.

“You should not be sitting before me like this, not in this condition,” Adrian murmured. “You’re my grandson… my only blood.” His eyes lingered on the torn sleeve, the dried mud, the faint bruises still marking Lorenzo’s jaw. “You deserve better.”

Lorenzo looked away. “It’s fine. I’m okay.”

Adrian let out a weak sigh and gestured toward Derek.

Derek nodded and walked to the corner of the room. A moment later, he returned holding a small, sleek card in his hand and placed it on the bed.

Adrian weakly picked it up and pointed it toward Lorenzo.

“What is that?” Lorenzo asked.

Although it looked like a credit card, it was unlike anything he had ever seen before—nothing like the ones people used at school.

“That is a credit card, grandson,” Adrian said weakly. “That card contains a sum of one hundred billion dollars to buy everything you need.”

Lorenzo blinked slowly, unsure if he had heard correctly.

“One… one hundred billion?” he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper.

Adrian gave a faint smile. “You are a Byers. This is nothing compared to what rightfully belongs to you.”

Lorenzo’s throat went dry. He stared at the card as if it might suddenly burn through the sheets. One hundred billion. The number felt unreal—too large to fit inside his mind, too heavy to belong to him.

Lorenzo swallowed hard. His fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the bed as he stared at the card.

“One hundred billion to get everything that I need?” he repeated.

Adrian nodded slowly. “Yes. Everything you need… and everything you were denied.”

Lorenzo let out a deep breath. He wanted to protest to his grandfather that it was not needed, but he knew it wasn’t going to change a thing since all the Byers properties were now under his name.

Adrian’s eyes softened as he watched Lorenzo struggle with the enormity of it all. “I know it feels like too much, but you need to get used to all of this as soon as possible,” he added.

Lorenzo nodded.

Adrian studied Lorenzo for a moment longer with his weak gaze.

“Tell me,” he said slowly, “how did you use to go to school?”

Lorenzo stiffened.

He opened his mouth to answer, but before a single word came out, understanding dawned on Adrian’s face. His eyes drifted again to Lorenzo’s worn shoes, the frayed hem of his trousers, the way he carried himself—guarded, used to being overlooked.

Adrian’s jaw tightened.

“…I see,” he murmured.

Lorenzo lowered his gaze. He didn’t need to explain. Adrian already knew. His grandson had lived a life poorer than a rat, surviving where others never had to struggle.

Adrian turned his head toward him. “Derek.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Take Lorenzo to the garage,” Adrian said firmly. “There are over seventy cars of different brands in there. Let him pick the best five.”

Lorenzo’s head snapped up. “Five… cars?”

Adrian looked at him. “Yes, five cars, my son. You will not walk nor beg for rides ever again.”

Lorenzo opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He just stared at his grandfather, who was sitting weakly on the bed.

There was silence in the room, except for the sound of the ceiling fan subtly blowing air through the room.

“Lorenzo…” Adrian said, and that made Lorenzo look at him.

The tall woman’s perfectly shaped brows furrowed as she sized Lorenzo up from head to toe. Her gaze lingered on his faded T-shirt and worn sneakers, and the corner of her lips curled in disdain. She let out a sharp laugh. “And who exactly are you supposed to be?” she sneered. “Another charity case?” Lorenzo’s expression remained calm, almost indifferent. But his eyes were steady—cold and unwavering. “I believe she already apologized,” he said evenly. “There’s no need to humiliate her.” The woman scoffed loudly, flipping her long, glossy hair over her shoulder. “Humiliate her? Do you even know how much these heels cost?” She lifted the pair dramatically. “These are custom-made. Imported. You wouldn’t even understand the brand if I told you.” A murmur rippled through the growing crowd. Some recognized her; she is a frequent customer of Louis Vuitton, and she was clearly wealthy—dressed in designer clothes from head to toe, dripping in jewelry that screamed status. Others whispered
