"Young man, since I've promised you, I won't go back on my word," Lucien broke the silence, staring at Julian.

"Here's one billion," He continued, pulling out a card from his pocket and giving it to Julian.

"My father was already at the end of his life and would have died anyway,"

"But then I  would expect you to give up your conning and find something else, pure and legal to do other than scamming people,"

"The only reason I'm giving you this and letting you off is because I admire your confidence and bravery," Lucien added, at this point, his voice was extremely cold.

"Sure," Julian chuckled and collected the card from Lucien, he had really treated the old man, so there was no need for him to refuse the card.

Without any further ado, Julian walked out of the ward.

"Don't worry, your father will wake up in about an hour from now," Julian's voice came as he walked out of the ward.

Marcus and the other doctors froze seeing this as they couldn't catch on to what was happening.

Why didn't Mr. Brown punish that young man? Instead, he gave him money and let him leave.

And besides that, the young man didn't even look grateful as though he had earned the money. Apart from that, his tone was even a bit haughty.

"Sir..."

"Beep!" The loud beeping of the monitor drowned out Marcus' voice and all the doctors rushed to check on the old man.

Seeing the monitor reading normally proved the old man was alive. The doctors froze and without any hesitation started to carry out a check up.

Soon, their expressions changed and there was only one word in their mind.

Impossible.

Quickly, they ran it again, but it was still the same. Not believing it, they did it again, but it was still the same.

"What's happening?" Lucien finally asked, staring at the group of doctors who looked like they had seen something they were not supposed to see.

"Sir...." Marcus stuttered, his face going red in embarrassment.

"What the heck is wrong?" Lucien demanded, his voice stiff, while his gaze was extremely cold.

The heart monitor had suddenly come back to life and from the way the doctors were frozen in shock, it could only mean his father wasn't dead.

"Sir..sir... Your father is not dead..." Marcus stuttered, trying to explain to Lucien.

"And not only that, his body is now in a perfectly healthy condition,"

"All his hidden ailments and what had caused him to be bedridden in the first place that even we had no solution against has been treated," Marcus swallowed as he explained.

He didn't dare to lie to Lucien, that was the last thing anyone would want to do. Lie to the head of the Brown family.

Well, except if they were looking for death.

"From what I'm seeing, your father's bodily functions are even more healthier than some young man who isn't half his age and I can say he could live on for another twenty years,"  Marcus concluded, swallowing and looking away from Lucien's whose expression seemed to be unreadable.

Lucien on the other hand felt as though Marcus's words were a clap of thunder.

What the heck was happening? Was Marcus telling the truth? Well, it was impossible for Marcus to lie to him.

So that could be the only case. And if that was the case, then it meant that it was Julian who saved his father.

Thinking about this, a huge wave of guilt instantly washed over Lucien thinking about this.

Though he hadn't insulted Julian, he didn't thank him either. He had just dismissed him, even telling him not to con people again.

As someone who had saved his father's life, this was an unacceptable attitude from him.

If his father knew this, he would definitely cough out blood and die again. After all, his son dismissed the very man who had saved his life and even called him a con man.

"Guards!" Lucien roared furiously, coming back to his senses.

Instantly, the door of the ward was pushed open and about ten men dressed in black rushed into the ward.

"Find the young man that just left this ward and respectfully invite him back. If he's displeased by your acts, then you can forget about living," Lucien commanded.

"Yes sir," The men nodded and quickly rushed out, trying to find Julian.

"And you?" Lucien turned to Marcus and the other doctors.

At the moment, they didn't even dare to look at Lucien who was fuming with rage.

That young man was right. He could treat the old man. But why didn't they believe him?

If only they had?

Thinking about this, their faces turned red from embarrassment as they didn't know what to do.

"Sir," The guards soon came back as they walked into the ward,

"We couldn't find him anywhere in the hospital, we think he has left," The men reported, causing Lucien's expression to darken even more.

"I don't care how you want to do it, find that young man for me. Also, investigate and get me all of his information," Lucien commanded, his voice cold.

"Yes sir," The men nodded and rushed out of the ward once again to carry out Lucien's order.

"And you all," Lucien growled, turning to Marcus and the others.

"Just pray I find that young man, else..." He threatened, his eyes narrowing into a straight line glaring at the group.

"Better pray I find him," Lucien added and stormed out of the ward, at the same time pulling out his phone to make a call.

Marcus and the rest breathed in a sigh of relief seeing Lucien leave. They could only silently pray and hope that he would find Julian.

Else they were all cooked. As for what Julian had done to the old man, they had no idea what it was.

But whatever it was, Julian was very capable and they couldn't help but remember the cynical remarks when he was about to treat the old man.

  • I own this place

Julian drove the car out of Brittany’s family compound without saying much. The quiet hum of the engine filled the air between them as the gate slowly closed behind the vehicle. Unlike most of the times Brittany had seen him arrive, this time Julian had come alone and had chosen to drive himself. The car he brought was not one of the imposing luxury vehicles that often turned heads on the street. It was a modest salon car that blended easily with ordinary traffic, the sort of vehicle most people would barely look at twice.Brittany noticed it earlier but had said nothing. Now she sat in the passenger seat, occasionally glancing sideways at him. The night breeze drifted through the slightly lowered window, carrying the distant sounds of the city settling into its evening rhythm.“So,” she said after a few minutes, unable to suppress her curiosity any longer, “where exactly are we going?”Julian did not answer immediately. One hand rested calmly on the steering wheel while the other ta

  • Unusual attachments

Julian walked out of the house but Brittany ran after him and stoped him, slowly she was becoming fully dependent on him. “Julian wait,” she called after him and he waited a bit. “You have done a lot for not just me but my family too, yet you don’t accept any form of gratitude at all. Who are you really?” Her eyes were bright with gratitude and her lips trembled slightly. “I just do what I have to do,” Julian had equally grown a soft spot for Brittany so he found himself interfering with matters concerning her and her family just to see her happy.”No, you don’t know what you have just done for my aunt, if your prescription is accurate, you’d have restored decorum in my family as well as my aunt’s confidence.” As she spoke, her eyes glistened with unshed tears, her voice a little thick with emotions.Julian sighed, he wanted to continue the conversation but he didn’t feel her home was the best place for it. “Join me for a ride.” Julian said, his dominantly present confidence never

When Julian told the cab driver his destination, he didn't argue."Who is paying please?" The driver was polite but he had seen people like Julian several times, they claimed to hire cabs to sophisticated destinations just to feel among. To him, Julian looked to poorly dressed to afford a ride, he could have easily taken a rickshaw but he didn't openly berate Julian yet."I have entered your vehicle alone, how then are you asking me that?" Julian was a bit confused. "I thought you have been asked to show up at the location by someone and are hoping on payment from them since you decided to take a cab." The man looked at Julian again through the rear view mirror and concluded that he wasn't all that at all but the confidence that Julian exuded was the reason he was still being polite with him."I am going there in my own. I am paying my bill myself." Julian had decided to take a cab because he didn't have physical cash on him to take a rickshaw. It was not as though he was proud and t

  • This is it

Morning light filtered through the tall glass panels of the city hospital, casting long reflections across the polished floors. The atmosphere inside was tightly controlled, yet charged with anticipation. Security personnel monitored every entrance, and hospital staff moved with unusual precision. Word had spread far beyond medical circles. What had begun as a rumor was now an event.Julian entered the primary consultation wing without ceremony. His white coat was immaculate, sleeves resting neatly at his wrists. There was no theatrical presence in his stride, no attempt to amplify the tension that already hung in the air. Lucien walked half a step behind him, reviewing the schedule one final time.“All one hundred are confirmed and pre-screened,” Lucien said quietly. “Their case files are loaded into the system, but I assume you won’t need them.”Julian’s gaze remained forward. “Open the first room.”The first patient was a middle-aged man accompanied by two younger relatives who car
