"Arghhhhh!"

Lin Jiang screamed in agony as an unbearable wave of scorching heat surged through his body, channeled from the razor-sharp claw of the Red-Eyed Dragon.

"Hahaha! Enjoy it, boy! Consider this your first trial—a test of how strong you truly are!" the Red-Eyed Dragon laughed.

The eleven-year-old Lin Jiang collapsed to the ground, rolling back and forth as the searing heat spread throughout his entire body.

It flowed through every vein and every drop of blood, causing excruciating pain that he simply could not endure.

Boom!!

Desperate to release the unbearable heat, Lin Jiang began punching everything around him.

Massive boulders, thick tree trunks—anything within reach became the target of his fists as he struggled against the burning agony consuming his body.

The sight brought a satisfied smile to the Red-Eyed Dragon's face.

That was exactly what he had expected.

"Show me that your body is truly strong!" the dragon declared.

Punch after punch crashed into the giant rocks until the boy's small fists split open, blood dripping from his torn skin.

"It has begun," the Red-Eyed Dragon muttered.

Yet strangely, with every strike, the unbearable heat inside Lin Jiang gradually faded away.

Finally, after delivering his last punch with every ounce of strength he had left, the scorching sensation vanished completely.

Thud!!

His exhausted body collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

He had completely drained himself under the overwhelming force of the dragon's blazing energy.

"It is time for you to begin a new journey, young one. Your destiny began the moment you inherited the Sword of the Dark Ruler," the Red-Eyed Dragon said.

The dragon slowly approached Lin Jiang's unconscious body.

"Everything you need is inside this cave. Train here, and do not leave until you have gained enough strength to survive the Underworld."

Whoosh!!

The Red-Eyed Dragon transformed into a crimson beam of light and entered Lin Jiang's body.

At that very moment, a dragon-shaped tattoo with glowing crimson eyes appeared on Lin Jiang's right arm.

"I will only appear when you are truly cornered, boy," the dragon's voice echoed before silence filled the cave once more.

---

It was not until midnight that Lin Jiang finally regained consciousness.

The first thing he felt was the stinging pain in his swollen fists.

"My luck is truly terrible..." he muttered bitterly.

With barely any strength left, Lin Jiang staggered deeper into the cave.

His eyes immediately fell upon the Demon Staff standing firmly embedded in the ground.

"Can I pull it out now? Didn't the Red-Eyed Dragon already give me inner energy?" he wondered.

Only then did he remember that the Red-Eyed Dragon should have been with him.

"Where did the Red-Eyed Dragon go?" Lin Jiang asked himself.

"Everything you need is inside the cave."

The dragon's voice echoed in his mind—the very last words it had spoken before merging with his body.

"Everything I need is inside the cave? Then I'd better take a look," Lin Jiang said.

Without hesitation, he hurried farther into the cave.

Inside, he found countless treasure chests, all tightly sealed.

"What are all these?" he wondered.

Unable to contain his curiosity, he opened the first chest.

It was filled with an enormous collection of ancient cultivation manuals.

"So I won't be lonely anymore," Lin Jiang said with a grin as he opened another chest.

Inside the second chest were thousands of Demon Spirit Cores.

To Lin Jiang, they were priceless treasures.

In the martial world, one of the fastest ways to increase one's cultivation was by absorbing the energy contained within Demon Spirit Cores.

Now, countless of them lay right before his eyes.

He opened another chest.

This one was filled with an immeasurable fortune in gold coins.

The next chest was the same.

And the one after that.

Every chest contained mountains of gold until he finally reached the very last one—a small chest plated entirely in gold.

"This one's different. It's smaller... and covered in gold."

Curious, Lin Jiang slowly opened it.

He frowned.

Inside was only a single ring engraved with the image of a dragon.

"What kind of ring is this?"

He picked it up and carefully examined it.

For some reason, he was certain it was no ordinary ring.

"I'm sure it's a treasure, but I have no idea what it does."

After hesitating for a moment, he placed the ring back into the chest and returned to the treasure manuals.

"Hopefully one of these books explains that ring."

Lin Jiang quickly searched through the manuals.

Most of them were techniques that were currently beyond his use.

Only a handful were suitable for him.

Eventually, he found a manual explaining the proper use of Demon Spirit Cores.

"So it's not as simple as I thought."

The manual explained that Demon Spirit Cores could not be absorbed carelessly.

If used improperly, the violent energy within them could seriously damage the cultivator's body.

"Wait... isn't this the same ring from earlier?"

Lin Jiang exclaimed as he spotted an illustration in the book.

Excited, he hurriedly read the description beneath it.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

"The Ring of Space and Time... A treasure beyond all value!" the young boy exclaimed.
