Later that evening, Clarissa and Clyde were on their way to the government agency for a divorce.
Clyde had tried to make her see reasons but Clarissa was adamant and demanded it wholeheartedly. On the way, Clarissa kept on mopping about how Clyde had been unable to give her the kind of life she deserved. Even after a year of marriage she had nothing to show that she was married to a 'Man'. She had talked to Rachael while she was at her home. Rachael had pointed out the fact that ever since she was married, not only had she been left behind by their classmates, but her societal hierarchy had plummeted to rock bottom. She had agreed to it when Rachael had laid out these facts in front of her. “How can you be so useless, and yet you expect me to remain with you!? I'd say 'in your dreams' but then again, I'm not sure if you even have dreams.” Clarissa spoke harshly to Clyde as they both sat in the cab which was conveying them to the agency building. The cab driver had a frown on his face as he too didn't like the statement Clarissa made. “Clarissa, please reconsider. Things will get better.. Tomorrow might bring a surprise of its own. Trust me on this Honey.” Clyde still tried to change the mind of his wife. He truly loved Clarissa. At first she used to be onboard with things changing for the better, but after she went to her school reunion two months ago, she became a totally different person. She.. changed totally. She started by nagging him about getting a new job, and then started asking for money to rent a cab that will convey her to work every morning and back home after work, things had escalated to this point. “Tomorrow!? Can you listen to yourself Clyde!?.. Tomorrow!? What do you think tomorrow will bring!? Oh you think the fictional gods like in the movies will open up the heavens and toss down a whole lot of resources to you!? How delusional of you!” Clarissa sneered at him. Her annoyance peaked, and she began to think that she should have divorced Clyde before now. How could she not have seen how delusional the man she married was. “That's not what..” Clyde tried to explain. “Not what you mean!? If you're going to talk about getting a new job and getting a promotion, then don't bother, that ship has sailed and I am not that stupid to believe in your words anymore.” Clarissa sneered as she rolled her eyes at him. “Clarissa..” Clyde felt hurt. He kept his voice low. “Don't Clarissa me young man! A year of marriage and rather than growing, I'm actually reducing! My societal status has plummeted to rock bottom…While my classmates own Porsche and BMWs, I still take the public transport to work! Public transport Clyde! While my classmates live in an incredible mansion, I actually live in a shack! A goddamn shack that's located in a dirty muddy neighborhood. And while they are all married to rich and wealthy men, I have to settle down with you for nothing!” Clarissa said, almost screaming. Clyde couldn't hide his embarrassment when he saw the cab driver glance at him with pity in his eyes. Clyde had to avert his gaze to the scenery of Marula town. He had left the splendours of Gold city and came to this town to live an ordinary, peaceful and happy life.. away from the schemes of the Royal family and the battles in the military.. yet he was here on a battlefield of its own.. and he was losing, or safe to say; He lost. Clarissa's words cut deep into his bones that he felt so little. He, the famous god of war, was now called 'a good for nothing'. “We're here.” the cab driver said as he pulled up in front of a building; MARULA CITY COUPLES DEPARTMENT. He kept his eyes straight as he felt annoyance on behalf of Clyde. He was annoyed that Clyde was still begging his wife to stay with him, wasn't it clear to him that his wife no longer loved him? The cab driver felt indignation towards Clyde. “Please Clarissa, reconsider. Trust me, you will not regret the decision. Please love, reconsider.” Clyde calmly said as they stepped out of the cab. “We're not having this conversation again!” Clarissa said and angrily stomped into the building, Clyde had no choice but to follow behind her. “If I was this man, I'd say good riddance to this awful shrew of a woman. Hmph!” the cab driver muttered as he drove off. * “Mrs Clarissa Tresslar, just sign here.” the man in charge of handling divorce said to Clarissa, he was around fifty years or so, with a bald hair trimmed beard. Clarissa immediately signed her signature and pushed the paper to Clyde. “Sign it Clyde, I don't wish to stay here any longer than I have to!” Clyde sighed and then reluctantly signed as well. “Goodbye Clyde.” Clarissa said in a tone laced with disgust, then she hurriedly left the office as if staying there will get her infected with poverty. Sigh! “Do not worry young man, I'm sure you will find a better woman soon enough. There are many women out there who won't bother about your shortcomings, you just haven't found that right one yet.” the middle-aged man tried to console Clyde. Clyde showed a sad smile in appreciation to the man's attempt to lighten his mood. “Thank you sir.” Clyde replied. “I once had a wife who didn't see me as a nice fit for her. She had come from a nice family and I was of a humble background. “We got married due to the love we had for one another. But two years later, she demanded for a divorce, guess what? She had found someone else. “Women who suddenly find faults in you and request for separation have one thing in common; they have found someone else and seek to ditch their former lover.” the middle-aged man said and went on to fix up the register and papers. Clyde then stood up and left the office as well. He didn't bother going after Clarissa as he knew it was pretty much useless. But then how would this end?

CHAPTER 052
The wind howled through the compound like a spirit denied rest, sending flags flapping against their poles and shadows leaping across the gravel. Inside the command bunker, the walls seemed closer than they were. The hum of fluorescent lights did little to suppress the tension coiling around the room.Danielle paced. She hadn’t slept. Her fingers itched toward her holster again and again like a smoker reaching for a long-gone cigarette.Across the room, Derick stood motionless, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the file Valeria had left. Marshal Griggs. The loyal right hand. The man who shared Clyde’s secrets, sat beside him in every strategy meeting, raised a toast at every victory.A traitor.“You’re too quiet,” Danielle said. “That’s never good.”Derick didn’t look up. “I’m thinking.”Danielle stopped her pacing. “You believe her, don’t you?”He gave a curt nod. “I do.”“Then we’re screwed.”Derick’s jaw tensed. “We’ve always been screwed. CHAPTER 051
The clearing stood in stunned silence as the night wind stirred the pine needles and whistled between the barrels of drawn rifles. The woman named Valeria stepped forward, her boots crunching softly against the gravel of the compound path. Her coat fluttered behind her like the wings of some dark omen. Her expression was calm, surgical—eyes like steel, calculating everything and giving nothing away.Derick stepped to the forefront, his weapon unwavering. “Last chance. Identify your purpose or turn around. This isn’t a diplomatic mission.”Valeria’s lip curved ever so slightly. “Relax, Commander. If I wanted war, your perimeter would already be ash. I came to speak. Preferably before the next decision you make costs you your command.”Danielle emerged from the shadows of the main building, her steps brisk, gaze locked onto Valeria. She stood beside Derick, not out of allegiance—but necessity.“Valeria,” Danielle said, her voice low, laced with bitter recognition. “I thought you were a

The moonlight barely pierced the dense canopy above, throwing ghostly beams onto the forest floor as Danielle sprinted through the underbrush. Her breath came in quick, hot bursts, fogging in the night air. Her stolen rifle felt heavier by the second, but she didn’t slow. Every step forward was another yard between her and the charred remains of Seth’s crumbling empire. But the escape wasn’t complete—not yet. She needed extraction. She crouched by a moss-covered rock, pulling the radio she’d taken from the fallen guard. She turned the frequency dial, hoping someone, anyone, was listening. Static at first. Then a crackle.“repeat, team alpha has arrived. Targets neutralized. No visuals on the asset.”Danielle pressed the button. “This is Danielle. I'm in the woods southeast of the compound. Heading toward creekside. Respond.”A tense pause. Then, “Danielle! Thank God. This is Derick. Hold your position. I’m sending two men to get you. Do not engage. Do you copy?”“Copy that. Just hurry

The helicopter roared above the ground, its blades slicing through the air with a deafening intensity. Dust and debris danced in the chaotic wind, creating a haze around the landing zone. One after the other, five military men descended from the aircraft, each gripping tightly onto a thick, sturdy rope.
