CHAPTER 1: THE UNRAVELING
The bar was dimly lit, shadows dancing across the mahogany counter as Gregory stared into his fifth glass of whiskey. The amber liquid caught the light, swirling like liquid fire—a fitting companion to the inferno burning in his chest. How could she do this to him? The question echoed endlessly through his mind. A paternity test. One more week until he had proof in his hands, concrete evidence that the woman he'd promised his life to had shattered everything. His daughter. The thought made his stomach twist. She wasn't even his daughter. He raised the glass to his lips, draining it completely. The burn felt good, felt like punishment. "Another," he slurred at the bartender, his voice rough like sandpaper. His phone buzzed. A message from Alice. His eyes couldn't focus properly to read it, but he saw her name and felt the bitter laugh rise in his throat. She was probably out there right now, living her lie while he sat here drowning in reality. A soft hand touched his shoulder. "Gregory?" He spun around, and through his blurred vision, he saw her. The familiar silhouette, the way she tilted her head. His wife. "You," he hissed, his jaw clenching as rage flooded through him. He grabbed her arm, pulling her close. The smell wasn't quite right, but he didn't care. "What the hell are you doing here?" She tried to speak, but he cut her off, his finger jabbing into her chest. "Don't lie to me anymore. I know everything. I know what you did," he spat, his words tumbling out like poison. "How many times? How many times did you betray me? Was I ever good enough for you, or was I just some charity case you felt sorry for?" Her mouth opened and closed. She looked confused, but he was too far gone to notice. "Answer me!" His voice rose, drawing stares from other patrons. "Who is he? Tell me who the other man is. I already know, Alice. I already have proof of everything." She reached for him, but he jerked away. "Just get me out of here," he muttered, his voice dropping into something darker, something dangerous. She didn't argue. She helped him to his feet, one arm wrapped around his waist to keep him steady as they stumbled toward the door. He knew he should feel ashamed, should try to remember what was happening, but the whiskey had wrapped itself around his thoughts, making everything blur together. The car ride felt endless. He sat in the passenger seat, staring out the window as the city lights streaked past. He could feel her glancing at him, could sense her confusion, but he didn't care. "Years," he muttered, his voice hollow. "I gave you years. Everything I had. And you treated me like I was nothing." She didn't respond. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tighter, her knuckles white with tension. Her jaw clenched, but she said nothing. When they finally arrived at the hotel suite, he practically fell inside. The room was luxurious—all cream and gold and soft lighting—but it looked like a cage to him now. A beautiful prison built on lies. She closed the door behind them quietly. He spun around, and before she could say anything, he was on her. His hands reached for her, rough and urgent, filled with all the anger and betrayal and confusion that churned inside him. He'd spent months feeling cold in his own marriage, and now he was burning, burning like his entire world was on fire. "You owe me this," he breathed against her neck, his voice vicious and raw. "After everything you've done, you owe me this." She gasped as he pushed her toward the bed, but something was wrong. She was different. Her responses were sharper, her movements more uninhibited than they'd ever been before. She met his intensity instead of withdrawing from it. It should have felt wrong, but his drunk mind twisted it into meaning—this was her guilt, her way of trying to make up for her betrayal. He took her with years of pent-up rage and confusion between them, his movements desperate and fierce. She moved beneath him, alive in a way his wife never had been, but he didn't think about that. He couldn't think about anything except the pain. When it was over, they lay tangled together in the dark, and he finally, mercifully, passed out. Morning came like a punch to the face. Gregory opened his eyes to harsh sunlight streaming through the windows, his head pounding so violently he thought his skull might split open. The room spun. His mouth felt like cotton soaked in poison. He was naked. The sheets were twisted around his legs, and the bed smelled like sex and expensive perfume. Memories tried to surface, fragmenting and breaking apart like shattered glass. The bar. Drinking alone. A woman. Her voice was wrong, everything was wrong, but the whiskey had stolen the details. Did I cheat on Alice? His stomach lurched at the thought. His phone sat on the nightstand, screen dark. He reached for it with trembling fingers, half-hoping he'd imagined everything. The screen lit up, and there it was. A message from Alice sent last night: "We shouldn't stay at hotels anymore. It's such a waste of money. We can have fun at home instead. You really went hard last night after so long. We can do that when my mother watches the kids." The words made his blood run cold. He didn't remember any of this. The last concrete memory he had was drinking alone at the bar, learning about the paternity test, confronting someone who might have been his wife in a vehicle that felt like a fever dream. What the hell happened last night? He dragged himself out of bed, his body sore and his mind screaming for answers. He needed to get home. He needed to see Alice, to understand what was happening to his life. The drive home felt like he was moving through water. Every red light felt personal, every moment stretching out like torture. When he finally walked through the front door, the house was quiet. The kids were somewhere with Alice's mother—he remembered the message now. He went straight to the living room, where Alice's laptop sat open on the sofa. The screen hadn't gone dark. She'd left it unlocked, left her messaging app open like an invitation. He should have looked away. He knew he should have closed the laptop and walked upstairs to shower, to try to piece his memory back together. But something pulled him forward, some instinct that whispered this was important. His eyes scanned the chat logs. Alice and her business partner, Robert Carnegie. Nothing seemed out of place at first—casual comments about meetings, project updates, industry gossip. But the frequency of their conversations was relentless. They messaged throughout the day, every day, in a way that went beyond professional. Then he saw it. A message from Robert , sent last night just before his blackout: "I'm sorry." And Alice had never replied. His hand hovered over the keyboard, his heart hammering against his ribs. What happened last night? Who did he sleep with? And why the hell was Robert Carnegie apologizing to his wife?

THE RETURN OF THE BROKEN HUSBAND CHAPTER 8: THE OTHER WOMAN

She was striking, with sharp features and an air of quiet authority that commanded attention the moment she walked into a space. Her dark hair was pulled back in a sleek ponytail, and she wore an expensive black blazer over tailored trousers. But it was her eyes that held Gregory's attention—they were filled with something that looked dangerously close to rage. When she saw him lying there, unable to move, something in her face crumpled. THE RETURN OF THE BROKEN HUSBAND CHAPTER 6: THE TRUTH UNRAVELS
The hospital room was quiet when Alice pushed open the door the next morning. Sunlight streamed through the window, falling across Gregory's pale face. He turned to look at her as she entered, taking in every detail of her appearance. Her eyes were red-rimmed, her movements stiff and awkward, and her expression was twisted into something that looked like guilt wrapped in forced concern. She approached the bed slowly, as if walking through water. When she spoke, her voice was careful and measured, each word chosen with deliberate precision."I've consulted with all the doctors here. They've reviewed your scans, and your spine is severely damaged," she began, her hands fidgeting with the strap of her purse. Her gaze stayed fixed on his face, searching for his reaction. "There is one surgery that might help you recover fully. But the risk is enormous. The mortality rate exceeds eighty percent."She paused, letting the weight of that number settle between them. Her jaw clenched slightly a

THE RETURN OF THE BROKEN HUSBAND CHAPTER 5: THE BREAKING
The morning sun filtered through the windshield as Gregory drove toward his office, his mind still clouded from the night before. Alice had left early for work, kissing him on the forehead and whispering promises that everything would be fine. He'd nodded, accepting her words like a man accepting a lifeline, hoping that maybe they were true. His phone was connected to the car's Bluetooth system, and soft music played as he navigated through the city traffic. He didn't notice the black sedan at first. It was only when he merged onto the highway that something registered in his peripheral vision. The same car. Always three vehicles behind him, matching his speed exactly.Gregory's stomach tightened. He accelerated slightly, testing. The black sedan accelerated with him. He slowed down. It slowed down too.His hands gripped the steering wheel tighter, and his eyes flicked to the rearview mirror repeatedly. The windows of the sedan were tinted dark, impossible to see inside. He tried to c
