John sat at the lounge with a calmness that barely concealed the storm of satisfaction brewing in his chest. The room around him buzzed with chatter, but in his world, everything had narrowed down to a single word—justice.

Back at the estate, the air had been anything but calm.

John’s grandfather had reached a breaking point. Years of granting the Johnsons grace had finally caught up with him. Reports had been filtering in for months—whispers of the Johnsons manipulating their position within the empire, overstepping their boundaries, acting like sovereigns in a kingdom they didn’t own. He had chosen patience over confrontation. Until now.

“This recent move is nothing but the final straw,” he had said, pacing the length of his office with his hands behind his back, his voice shaking with restrained fury. “They dared to turn a girl’s life into a bargaining chip. A forced marriage? To that entitled brute of a boy?”

John had remained silent at first, watching the patriarch simmer in anger.

“The Johnsons only control one of our subsidiary companies,” his grandfather muttered. “One. So what gave them the audacity to act like royalty? They’re just subordinates in the grand scheme of things.”

John had spoken then, barely holding in his disdain. “Wow. So all this time, Noel’s been parading around like he’s part of the one percent of the one percent… yet they’re under our empire?”

His grandfather scoffed. “Exactly. They’re just another piece on the board.”

He turned abruptly. “Now tell me, John. How would you deal with this if this were your empire?”

That question hadn’t just been rhetorical. It was a test—one that John instantly recognised. His heartbeat had quickened, but his face remained firm.

“I think we should give them a taste of their own medicine,” he had said with no hesitation.

His grandfather had tilted his head, curious. “Go on.”

“I want us to bankrupt the Johnson family. Take away their power, their dignity. Strip them of everything they think makes them invincible.” John’s voice was cold, resolute.

There had been a brief silence, then the old man smiled—one filled with grim pride.

“So be it.”

He walked over to the intercom and buzzed for Chucks, the family manager.

“But remember this,” he said, turning back to John, voice grave. “This will be the last time I intervene for you in matters like this. You are now the heir. Your words are law. Your thoughts are edicts. Speak less and act wisely.”

The words echoed in John’s mind long after he had left the estate.

Your words are law…

He felt their weight press on his shoulders as the car sped through the city. For the first time, the reality of his new life settled into him. This wasn’t just about titles and inheritance anymore. His choices now shaped destinies—either for ruin or redemption.

John sat back in the lounge seat, reflecting on the global scope of the empire he now had to oversee. He had barely scratched the surface, yet the sheer scale of responsibility felt exhilarating and terrifying all at once.

But for now, he had one goal—destroy the Johnsons.

He had rejoined the board meeting earlier that day and was introduced to some of the allies within the network—men and women who operated not just in daylight boardrooms but also in the unseen corridors of power. They weren’t just businessmen. They were dealmakers, powerbrokers, gatekeepers to the underground world his grandfather had warned him about.

After the meeting, he texted Anna and Collins.

"Meet me at the lounge. I have exciting news for you both."

He arrived first and ordered drinks for them, choosing sparkling water for himself. His mind was buzzing with anticipation. Chucks was meant to update him soon, and every second dragged.

Then it happened.

PING!

A notification flashed across his phone.

Chucks (Family Manager): Greetings, young master.

John’s heart skipped.

John: Hello sir.

Chucks: Your grandfather asked me to deliver a message to you.

John: Go ahead.

Chucks: He said, “It is done.”

John’s fingers clenched around his phone. His face lit up like the Fourth of July. He let out a half-laugh, half-shriek of pure joy. Heads turned from nearby tables, startled by the sudden outburst. A couple of waiters looked over curiously.

“Apologies,” John quickly said, waving at them, still grinning uncontrollably. He tried to compose himself, but the fire in his chest refused to calm.

Just then, he spotted Collins and Anna walking into the lounge.

“What's wrong with him?” Collins whispered to Anna as they walked side by side.

“I guess we’ll just have to find out. I’m no witch,” Anna replied, eyes fixed on John, who was practically beaming.

Stuck between a wall and a brick was the best way to describe John's current state. The two doors loomed before him like silent judges, each holding a future wrapped in mystery and risk. Behind one, a world he might thrive in. Behind the other, a trap he might never recover from. And yet, he had to choose. He wiped the sweat forming on his palms and stared ahead. The blue door was cold, almost intimidating. The pink door felt louder, more energetic. Neither seemed to call his name, yet both demanded an answer.Time was ticking.John closed his eyes. He saw his grandfather’s face, that weathered look of pride mixed with burden. That man had built an empire with nothing but grit and time. He had sent John here, not just to be tested, but to be shaped. And John could almost hear his voice now, low and calm, saying: “Go where the wisdom is. Go where the fire was first lit.”He opened his eyes. And chose the blue door.He didn’t rush. He walked with a quiet dignity that belied his internal

  • Chapter 46: Let the Games Begin

The grand auction hall buzzed with muted murmurs and low laughter as the attendees—all paragons of old money, tech tycoons, media moguls, oil barons, and aristocrats—moved to their assigned seats. Each person carried the air of untouchable wealth, their expressions stoic yet proud, as though being there was both a privilege and an expectation.John stood at the back of the room, ticket in hand, slowly growing uncomfortable.Everyone else had located their seats with ease. Each chair was marked clearly with the corresponding code found on the guest’s invitation. But John, despite scanning the rows twice over, found no chair bearing his number. His eyes flicked over the crowd, hoping perhaps someone had taken his seat by mistake. There was, however, one vacant chair left in the entire room—a plain, metallic seat near the door with no tag or designation. He hesitated.Somewhere in the shadows of the hall, King watched through a discreet surveillance feed, a glass of dark liquor in hand a

  • Chapter 44: The Auction

The sun had begun to tilt westward, casting soft gold over the ranch when John and his grandfather walked quietly toward a shed near the estate’s private stadium. Compared to the lavish halls of the Raymond mansion, the shed was modest—wooden beams, earthy scent of hay, a faint scent of polish and leather—but it was functional and, oddly enough, warm in its simplicity. A small table sat between two well-worn chairs, and on it were two tall mugs and a jug of chilled beer that the chief butler had placed there just before leaving them in peace.John’s grandfather sighed as he lowered himself into one of the chairs, stretching his back slightly as though releasing the weight of old years. He glanced over to John and motioned toward the drink.“Sit, John. And tell me what’s bothering you.”John sat down heavily, his thoughts still turning over the last twenty-four hours. He reached for the mug in front of him and took a deep gulp, letting the cool bitterness settle the tightness in his ch

  • Chapter 43: Enemies Seen and Unseen

The gathering had ended, and the grand hall began to empty, but not without new performances unfolding behind every handshake and smile. John remained in the room longer than necessary, observing the board members now shedding their stiff, corporate masks and slipping into something more personal—strategic, even seductive.Several of them approached him with warm, congratulatory words and polished grins that didn’t quite reach their eyes. Hands were extended, pats on the back given generously. Some invited him to their exclusive lounges upstairs for a celebratory drink, casually hinting at “getting to know each other better.” Others, less subtle, handed him gift cards to expensive spas or offered free enrollment into elite professional development courses abroad.John accepted each gesture with the grace of a man who knew too well that most offerings had an undertone. He smiled, nodded, and said all the right things. But his mind wasn’t fooled. He knew what they were doing—testing him
