The moment the door clicked shut behind the nurse, the room settled into a soft, gentle silence. Sean looked down at his sister, still nestled beneath his arm, her tiny fingers clutching the fabric of his jacket like letting go wasn’t an option.

Liana O’Connor—his little sister. She had come into the world when he was just seventeen and still in high school. He could still remember how stunned he’d been when he first heard the news.

At the time, it had felt more like an intrusion than a blessing—a disruption he hadn’t asked for. But now, years later, holding her close, he couldn’t imagine a world without her.

She was the only family he had.

“I missed you,” Liana said softly, her voice muffled against his shoulder.

“I missed you, too,” he replied, brushing a loose curl away from her forehead. “You’ve grown a little taller.”

She pulled back slightly, raising an eyebrow with a mock-serious expression. “You say that every time. Are you sure I’m not shrinking instead?”

Sean chuckled, the s
