CHAPTER EIGHT
Almost immediately after Enzo said the last words he spoke, General Hector lifted his head to look at Lucian with a curious look on his face.
“Have you ever heard of it? This Phoenix Heart Root?” Hector asked calmly while Lucian paused for a while before giving him a response.
“Yes, General. I have heard of it.” Lucian nodded almost immediately, but he still hoped that the General wasn’t going to want to know more.
Lucian wasn’t sure he could trust anyone at that moment after his encounter with Angus, not even the General whom he had started knowing on a bad note.
“I haven’t heard of the Phoenix Heart Root, Lucian.”
“Oh, really?” Lucian lifted his brows to form a furrow while looking at the General who nodded to affirm his words.
“I guess I might need to find out what that is. You will have to tell me whatever you know about it later, Lucian.”
“Not a problem at all, General…” Lucian sighed softly before returning his gaze to Elder Enzo who bent his face at once. It was obvious that the old man was trying to find out something about Lucian, but he didn’t want him or the General to find out what it was.
“Go on, Elder Enzo. Tell us more about this man. We want to know what he looks like, anything at all that could help us identify him.”
“But I don’t know anything about him…” Enzo said to Lucian who found his words a bit difficult to believe, and when he had taken in a deep breath which he let out slowly, he continued with a low tone.
“I never met him, Angus and Lord Ivan had all the meetings with him, and I was only given instructions on what to give to the Emperor. That’s all, I don’t know any other thing, I swear.”
Lucian looked at Elder Enzo whose countenance showed deep sincerity, but even though it still wasn’t enough to make him believe him, he still had to give him the benefit of the doubt.
“Alright. Go on, tell us more, tell us about some others who could be involved in this apart from Lord Ivan…” Lucian demanded at once, still looking at the Emperor and the General who sighed softly before he gave him a response.
“Lady Vella….” Elder Enzo said with a shaky tone, turning to look at General Hector who blinked twice before he widened his eyes in disbelief.
“Yes, General. She is also involved.” Elder Enzo said, seeing the shocked expression on the General’s face, and knowing that he was going to find his words very hard to believe.
“Lady Vella? That’s not possible, Elder Enzo. Seraphina would never involve herself in such. You must be mistaken.”
“I am telling you the truth, General. Seraphina and Lord Ivan have a secret together that they have never told anyone, no one except me knows about it. I think Seraphina is in it because of Lord Ivan.”
“What secret are you talking about, Elder Enzo? Speak, now!” The General ordered with an imperative tone, looking at the old man who shivered at his words, causing him to adjust himself because he thought the General was going to strangle him to death.
“She is his daughter! She is his daughter!” Elder Enzo voiced out at once while General Hector gasped, looking at the old man who avoided having any form of eye contact with him, knowing that he was not only dumbfounded but also angry at the same time.
“This is so impossible to believe. Seraphina?” General Hector looked around the house as though he was in search of solace from any angle, but it felt as though nothing made sense to him, not even the fact that he was still standing as he felt very uneasy.
Thinking that he was still putting on his red cape, he tried to grab it with his left hand only to realize that it was gone.
Lucian stood still, looking at the General while he held onto the thoughts that crept into his mind. He tried to figure out what was going on, but he couldn’t find the closest clue. He thought of asking the General, but realizing that his mood was not favorable, he decided not to go ahead with it.

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO Suddenly, Lady Seraphina felt a sharp pain in her belly, and when she looked at it to see that she had been stabbed and bleeding profusely, she gasped. As vitality left her, she dropped her dagger to the ground while she started to cough out blood from her mouth causing it to trickle down to the ground.“I am sorry, Seraphina.” General Hector said with a shaky voice, but it was already too late for any other thing to be done.Lady Seraphina grabbed the sword with both hands and dragged it out of her belly while the General let go of it, allowing it to fall to the ground just before he caught Lady Seraphina with both hands.“I am sorry, Seraphina. I didn’t mean to.” General Hector went down on one knee while he carried the lady with both hands, struggling not to let go of the tears that were gathered around his eyes.“Hector? You still look as handsome as ever even in this state. All I wanted was to show my father that he could be proud of his daughter. Funny how l

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE“No…No. I…I…” Lord Ivan attempted to stand up from his floor, but his body was too weak to do anything, and he was forced to remain the way he was.“Sadly, you are going to watch your daughter die in the hands of the General just like I told you. I told you that it was going to happen, but you doubted me. I am glad that you are still alive to watch it happen. Come on…” Lucian grabbed Lord Ivan by his two arms, and forced him to sit up while he positioned him in such a way that he could see his daughter who was still on the floor, whimpering and grunting in so much pain.“Ve…Seraphina.” Lord Ivan could barely say a word, and even when he tried to lift his right hand to extend it toward her, the weakness that had taken over his body pulled it down, and he was forced to remain the way he was.General Hector looked toward the direction of Ian, and when he saw that he had defeated Lord Ivan, he nodded Im satisfaction with a smile that appeared on his face at once.“I was

CHAPTER-THIRTYLord Ivan realized that there was no way he could get to his daughter who desperately needed his help if he didn’t get rid of Lucian who was standing on his way. None of his attempts to maneuver his way worked as Lucian stood his ground in front of him, not ready to leave the way. While the councilman was still trying to figure out a way to handle the situation, he heard a loud grunt from his daughter which made him turn to look at her at once.“Father? Help!” Lady Seraphina pleaded with a shaky voice while she struggled to catch her breath. She was on the floor after General Hector kicked her very hard on the belly, and her face was covered with so many bruises from the punches he gave her.“You thought you were going to be higher than your master, huh? I trained you, Seraphina! I taught you everything you know, every single thing!” General Hector said angrily, and then he walked toward Seraphina and dragged her by the neck, moping the floor with her body while he drag

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE“Let’s get this over with,” Lucian said confidently just before he started walking slowly toward Lord Ivan who chuckled softly before he dashed at him with the intention of chopping off his head.He was glad that Lucian was no longer holding onto the shield as he had been aiming for his neck, and he was certain that nothing was going to stop him from getting him.Even though he was a bit nervous, Lucian trusted his instincts and continued moving until he got very close to the old man who attempted to plunge his sword into his heart, but Lucian dodged at once.“You are slow, Lord Ivan.” Lucian said with a smirk on his face, causing the old man to growl angrily just before he lifted his sword again to cut off his head.Lucian wedged the sword of the old man who was coming at him with his own sword, but the impact came with a lot of force that he was forced to take two steps backward while he struggled with his balance.Lord Ivan grunted furiously again, and then he l

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHTLucian turned to look at Lady Seraphina as well, and when he saw that she was on her knees, crawling toward her blade, he nodded in satisfaction before turning his gaze to the old man who seemed a bit carried away by what he saw.“Well, it seems your daughter will die by the sword of the General,” Lucian said with a smirk on his face, looking at the old man who growled at him angrily.“You lie! You lie! She is stronger than you think! She is going to rise!” Lord Ivan said with the little confidence he had left, and then he returned his gaze to his daughter who was still on the ground, trying to crawl toward her sword.“Is that fear I see in your eyes? The look on your face seems to say something entirely different from your words. A while ago, you seemed very certain that the General was no match for your daughter.” Lucian teased Lord Ivan, and then he sniggered at him, causing him to fume angrily at him.“I am going to shut you up!” The councilman threatened, and

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVENLord Ivan looked at his daughter again the moment he heard the sound of the General's sword and her blade clashing against each other. His daughter staggered backward, and almost fell to the ground, causing him to gasp. His heartbeat increased instantly, and he struggled to make it normal.“What is it, Lord Ivan? Have you suddenly lost your strength? Have you suddenly realized the reality that stands in front of you?” Lucian chuckled softly while he looked at Lord Ivan who growled for the umpteenth time before he marched forward toward Lucian with the intention of killing him. With his sword tightly gripped with both hands, Lord Ivan attempted to plunge his sword into the heart of his enemy, but Lucian was faster than he expected, hitting off his sword with the shield in his left hand.“You are too old, Lied Ivan. Perhaps, you have eventually fallen for the effects of old age. Your bones are getting weaker by the day, and I am certain that soon, your legs will nee
