Chapter 1
1
Lucian wiped a layer of toxic soot from his forehead, his fingers trembling as he clutched a jagged piece of Aether-Scrap.
This junkyard was a graveyard of ancient machines and failed ambitions, a place where the sun struggled to pierce through the heavy, grey smog.
For most, it was a dump. For Lucian, it was the only place left to survive, get things that the elite no longer deemed as worthy to use, clean, resell and feed.
That was his daily routine.
He tucked the scrap into his tattered bag and began the long trek toward the Iron-Fang Clan’s territory.
Every step felt like a needle pricking his soul.
He wasn't always a scavenger. Once, he was the son of the Emperor’s Royal Smith, a man whose revered by all for his unique skill of crafting metals into deadly magical armours.
But that life was a ghost now.
"Hold on, Mother," he whispered, his voice cracking. "I’m coming with the medicine."
His mother, Elena, was dying.
She had contracted Cinder-Lung, a cruel disease that ate away at a person when their life force began to flicker out. It was a slow, suffocating death. Lucian knew there was only one way to save her—he needed the Aether-pills promised to him by the Iron-Fang Clan.
As he reached the towering, obsidian gates of the clan’s estate, the guards sneered, crossing their spears.
"The beggar returns," one mocked. "Looking for scraps, Smith-boy?"
"I am here to see Liora," Lucian said, standing as tall as his exhausted frame allowed. "She owes me a debt. One of life and death."
After a humiliating wait, the gates groaned open. He was led to a lush courtyard where the air was sweet and clear, a sharp contrast to the Bone-Yard. There, sitting under a silk canopy, was Liora. She looked more beautiful than ever, dressed in shimmering robes that cost more than Lucian’s entire life. Beside her sat Caspian, the Young Master of the Iron-Fang Clan, a man known for his cruelty and his vast, inherited power.
"Lucian," Liora said, her voice cold and devoid of the warmth he once cherished. "Why have you come here in such a state? Do you want to infect the air with your stench?” She sneered.
Lucian felt a surge of pain in his chest. "Liora, my mother... she’s dying. The Cinder-Lung has taken hold. I need the Aether-pills you promised. I gave up my father’s secret techniques and my own cultivation core to save your life when you were poisoned. You said you would repay me."
Liora didn’t look at him. She looked at her manicured nails. "That was a long time ago, Lucian. We were children playing at love.
Things have changed. I have moved on to a world you can no longer even see."
Caspian let out a sharp, barking laugh, leaning back and resting an arm around Liora’s shoulders. "Do you hear him, Liora? The cripple wants his payment. He thinks a few old stories and a broken core are worth our clan’s treasures."
"Lucian," Liora said, finally meeting his eyes. Her gaze was filled with a pity that stung worse than a whip. "We are no longer in the same league. I have found someone powerful, someone truly worth my time. A man who can lead me to the heavens, not a scavenger who reeks of the Bone-Yard."
She reached into a silken pouch at her waist and pulled out a handful of copper coins. With a flick of her wrist, she scattered them at Lucian’s feet. They clattered loudly against the stone.
"Take these. Buy your mother a comfortable bed to die in. Our engagement is over. Consider this my final act of charity."
Lucian stared at the coins. The blood in his veins began to boil. "Charity? I gave you my future, Liora! I gave you my life force! You wouldn't be breathing right now if it weren't for me!"
The words stung, the pain of being rejected by the one he once loved, the one he had sacrificed his legacy.
But he knew it was going to get to this, after their rise to power through his help and his gradual fall, Liora became cold and distant, evident that she was only there for the money.
But to be this cruel? He braised through his heart arch, his heard reinforced like steel.
He lunged forward, his hands reaching for the pouch of pills on the table. “I don't care about any filthy engagement "I’m taking what is mine!"
"How dare you!" Caspian roared.
Before Lucian could reach the table, Caspian’s foot slammed into his chest. The force sent Lucian flying backward, his breath leaving him in a painful gasp. Two guards rushed forward, their heavy boots thudding against his ribs.
"Beat this dog and throw him back to the trash where he belongs!" Caspian commanded.
Lucian tried to fight back, but his body was weak, his core empty. He felt the dull thud of fists and the sharp pain of being dragged across the gravel. They tossed him out of the gates like a bag of refuse.
"Don't come back," a guard spat, "unless you want to be buried in the scrap."
Lucian crawled to his feet, his vision blurred by tears and blood. He didn't pick up the coins. He just turned and ran, his lungs burning, his heart screaming. He had to get to his mother.
When he burst into their small, leaning shack in the Bone-Yard, the silence was the first thing that hit him. It was a heavy, suffocating silence.
"Mother?" he whispered.
Elena lay on the handmade cot, her face pale and her eyes closed. Her chest didn't move. There was no wheeze of Cinder-Lung, no struggle for air.
"No... no, no, no!" Lucian fell to his knees beside the bed, grabbing her cold hands.
"Mother, wake up! I’m here! I’ll find a way!"
He sobbed, the sound echoing off the corrugated metal walls.
He felt a deep, dark hole opening in his soul. He had lost everything. His status, his love, his power, and now the only person who truly cared for him.
In a fit of madness and despair, Lucian remembered an ancient, forbidden theory his father had once whispered about—the Soul-Forge. If a smith was desperate enough, they could forge their own vitality into another.
He bit his lip until it bled and sliced his palms open with a sharp piece of metal lying on the floor. He pressed his bleeding hands against his mother’s chest, closing his eyes and screaming inwardly, trying to force his very life into her cold body.
"Take it! Take all of it!" he thundered.
As his blood flowed, it began to drip onto a rusted, nameless hammer that sat beneath the bed—a relic of his father's he could never bring himself to sell.
Suddenly, a blinding golden light erupted from the hammer. The shack trembled, and the toxic air outside seemed to freeze.
[Ding! Divine Soul-Smith System Initializing...]
A voice, cold and mechanical yet vibrating with power, echoed inside Lucian’s head.
[Host has traded 'Dignity' for 'Destiny'. Requirement met.]
[Awakening: The Heaven-Forging Flame!]
Lucian felt a sudden, searing heat in his chest. It wasn't the pain of a wound, but the birth of a sun. The blood on his hands turned into liquid gold, and the rusted hammer began to glow with a heat so intense the air around it shimmered.
His eyes snapped open, glowing with a fierce, ethereal light. He looked at his hands, then at the hammer, then toward the direction of the Iron-Fang Clan. The grief was still there, but it was being forged into something else. Something hard. Something sharp.
"Liora... Caspian..." Lucian whispered, his voice now carrying a strange, dark resonance.
"You said we weren't in the same league. You were right."
The Heaven-Forging Flame flickered in his palms, ready to burn the world down and rebuild it from the ashes.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX Lucian couldn’t withstand the pain which he had already forgotten about until his sister jumped on him, causing his injuries to remind him that he had been in several fights in a very short time.“Are you okay? What’s wrong?” Lena asked as she jumped down from her brother's body, looking at him while she held onto her torch.“I am fine, Lena. It’s nothing.”“No, you are not. It sounded like you were in pain.” Lena made use of the torch in her hand to take a proper look at Lucian from his face down to his feet without missing any part of his body.“You were in a fight?” Lena looked at his face, and then she moved her left hand closer to it, causing Lucian to whimper as soon as her hands came in contact with his cheek.“Who did this to you? No one said anything about fighting, brother. Was it a trap?”“No, it wasn’t,

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE “I was hoping that you were going to say that, Ian. Go ahead, it’s all yours.” The General gestured to the carriage with both hands while Lucian walked up to it and climbed at once before two soldiers walked out of the corner where they were standing, and climbed the horses one after the other while Lucian leaned backward, resting his back on the soft seat. He grunted when he felt some of the pain all over his body which reminded him of the encounters he had in the Palace and outside of it.Almost immediately, he heard the sound of the General’s footsteps as he approached, and he opened his eyes slowly to look at him, wondering if there was something else.“Be safe out there, Lucian Gale…” General Hector shook hands with Lucian while he maintained a smile on his face, feeling a little relieved that everything had become a little bit relaxed even though there were still a lot of things to be worried about.“I will see you soon, General Hector. Do not hesitate to w

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOURAs soon as the General lifted his face after bowing to Ian, he cleared his throat and sighed heavily.“Thank you once again, Ian. Your services to the throne shall never be forgotten, and I wish you good tidings.”“I also wish you all the best, General. It was a pleasure doing this with you, and I hope you will be able to get rid of all of the enemies of the throne. With Lord Ivan still on the run, you still have to be prepared for more challenges.“We will be ready when he comes back, Ian. I will make sure of that.” General Hector clenched his fists angrily while he grunted in intense vexation.“General?” Lucian said with an inquisitive tone while the General looked at him almost immediately, wondering what was going on in his mind.“The King? Why weren’t they able to find him? I thought he was in his chambers.” Lucian waited for an answer from the General who chuckled softly just before he decided toSpeak to him.“I was hoping that you were going to ask that, Lu

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE “Lord Ivan? Where is he?” General Hector was able to discover what was going on without Lucian telling him. He looked around just like him, and when he didn’t find any trace of the old man, he sighed softly before looking at Lady Seraphina’s pale face with so much sadness and anger written all over his.“What did he tell you to convince you to do his bidding? You would never hurt anyone intentionally, I am sure of that.” General Hector said with a whisper, looking at Lady Seraphina as though he was expecting to get a response from her.“I think we have to go after him, Ian. There is no way he must have gone far, he has to suffer for his crimes! He caused her death.” General Hector returned his gaze to Lucian who was looking at a particular spot on the floor.“What is it, Ian?” The General asked at once, but Lucian wasn’t paying attention to any other thing other than the spot where his eyes were gazing.“I think I saw something.” Lucian said with a whisper just
