Jack stood in the war room, the taunt video still playing on the big screen. It was filled with Darius's face and his teasing remarks about Emily's blood.
Jack's hands clenched at his sides, his knuckles white. Mike entered with his face stern and his arm tightly bandaged. Jack turned off the screen with one push. The room went quiet. He looked at Mike, his scar pulling tight. "Find the captain. The one from the factory." Mike nodded once. There was no question in his gaze. He looked at a tablet and said, “He is hiding in Midtown, inside one of the high rise buildings." Jack grabbed his gun. He checked the video again. "Get the team ready in five." They all left the Vault in one of the black trucks. The city streets are empty at that hour. The rain had stopped, but the air felt heavy. The high-rise building stood tall in Midtown. The glass windows are dark with few lights on top. The truck parked two blocks away and the legion soldiers got out quietly. Their ropes are ready. Mike pointed at the building. "There are shafts on the side. We will climb our way up from there.” Jack led the way. They climbed through the fire escape. The wind cut cold and Jack's coat flapped. They tied ropes at the twentieth story. The soldiers dropped down the elevator shaft. Jack went first, his boots hitting the cable. Mike followed closely behind him. He cocked his gun ready as they moved as one. They slid into the fortieth floor and opened the door slowly. Inside were men in suits with guns. Guards. Jack shot first. One of the guards fell with no sound. Mike covered the hall. His shots were clean as he took more of the guards down. They knew each move without exchanging words. Jack kicked another door. The room was full of another set of men. They jumped up on their feet immediately. The gunfight began as bullets hit walls. Glass broke. Jack rolled behind one of the sofas to shield himself as Mike fired from the other side. Three men dropped immediately and Jack stood up to shoot two more. The stench of smoke filled the room. A big guard ran toward Jack with a knife. Jack blocked his arm and punched him in the face. The guard fell hard. Jack's hand hurt from the punch, old anger flashed. Three years of being Hart scorn as he punched the guard harder. Another guard grabbed Jack from behind. He wrapped his arm around Jack's neck. Jack threw an elbowed back, hitting him hard in the gut. The guard let go. Jack turned and hit him again. The man dropped dead on the floor. Mike cleared the next room. He waved to Jack to come over. "Captain's on the roof." He said, his voice low. They climbed up to the last stairs. A cold wind hit them as they pushed the door open. The captain stood by the edge of the roof top. He was a tall man in a police uniform with a gun in his hand. Beside him are two elite guards.. Jack stepped out, his gun up. The captain smiled. "You came alone?" Mike showed up by his side with legion soldiers behind him. Robes hanging in their hands. The captain's smile faded. Suddenly, Victor appeared from the stair door. He looked sweaty and pale. His suit wrinkled. He raised up his hands. "Jack, wait." His voice shook. "I have secrets. Family secrets. Just hear me out, please." Jack looked at him. His face was hard. Victor stepped closer. His eyes begged. Jack reached into his pocket and took out a tiny disk. He held it up. "Your bribes are all in here." Victor's expression turned pale. He opened his mouth. No words came out. His hands dropped. Jack pressed a button on his phone. The bribe logs went live on every news station. Victor's name was shown big on screens for people to see. Victor fell to his knees. His head hung low with tears mixed with sweat. He looked broken. The captain chuckled. "Good show. But you're dead now." His guards opened fire. Jack duck behind a vent. Bullets pinged metal. Mike fired back immediately. One of the guards fell. The other one hid. Jack moved out of the vent. He was exhausted. The captain pulled a long blade knife. He waited as Jack came close to him. Hand to hand, he slashed the knife at Jack. Jack used his arm to block it, his arm cut open. Jack punched the captain's throat. He gasped. The knife dropped from his hand. Jack grabbed the captain's shirt. Pushed him to the roof top edge The wind howled with the city far below. The captain pleaded. Knife to his own throat now. Jack held it there. The man's eyes widened. "Talk," Jack said. His voice cold. The captain's throat moved. He swallowed hard. "Darius has fake IDs. For city hall. He is planning a blackout coup at dawn." Jack pressed harder. The blade cut the Captain's throat slightly. The captain's voice cracked. "That's all." Jack's phone buzzed. It was a Drone coords text from Emily. The text looked scanty, her fingers must have shook while typing. Jack saw the numbers. He nodded once, but he didn't reply. Duty first. He released the captain and pushed him. The man stumbled backward and fell over the edge. A short scream echoed from below with the body hitting the floor. One of the dying guards whispered. His voice weak. "There is a traitor... in the Legion..." Jack knelt. "Who?" The guard closed his eyes before he could say another word. He was gone. Jack stood up, his arm was bleeding. Mike wrapped it up quickly. They looked at each other Jack's radio crackled. Mike's voice came through. From the Vault. "Boss, it's bad—the Vault's under attack." Jack froze. Mike was here with him. Who was the one on the radio? The voice cracked with fear. "And Victoria's leading them inside." Jack's line stopped. The word hung in the air. His heart pounded. Victoria. That old woman. Betrayal again. He jumped down to the last floor. The truck waited with the engine on. Jack jumped in without hesitation. "Drive." The truck sped to Bronx.Latest Chapter

His face was battered so violently by the wind and rain that it stung. His scar burned from the cold, and his fingers started to slip.Inside, Darius grabbed the dead pilot's seat and yanked the stick. The helicopter lurched sideways. He glanced at Jack through the broken glass. His eyes were wide with terror mixed with hatred.Jack used all of his strength to pull himself up. His boots found the skid.
