Selena was surprised at the stranger's confidence, her pupils dilated as if she had taken more than what she could handle.

However, she led the way forward while Reed walked right behind her, his hands clenching, hoping everything could be resolved soon so he could meet the couples that thought they could get away with what they did.

They soon entered an office filled with a few officers. The moment they sighted their boss, they immediately dropped to their knees.

However, their faces shifted to scorn the moment they laid eyes on Reed.

Despite their expressions, they knew better than to question Selena's orders as she stretched out a card to them.

“I want this verified immediately!” She said firmly while Reed took a seat as he watched everything unfold with calm detachment.

Only then did one of them have the card collected from the woman. Upon examining it, his eyes widened in shock.

“Ma'am, this seems to be a fake.”

“It's a counterfeit version of the original card if it belongs to that man. Judging from the looks of it, it's not what we think it is”

Another man said, irritation lining his voice.

These days, everyone wants to appear important and in order to feel included, a lot of counterfeit bags, shoes and other wares were made available at the stores and supermarkets.

This definitely could not be an exemption.

“Exactly… I'll suggest you hand him over to the cops for necessary questioning and…”

“ARE YOU QUESTIONING MY ORDERS NOW?” Selena’s voice thundered, her voice echoing across the room.

She was already annoyed that a card rumoured to belong to an elite turned up in the hands of a random man.

She needed to find out who this ‘ordinary man’ was.

Besides, what the hell was wrong with all of her workers who looked down on everyone? If she continued to fire them all, it would not be easy for her to start afresh looking for more workers.

These people definitely needed to undergo a great deal of training.

Trembling, they lowered their heads and walked towards their computer systems while others placed calls across high level contacts.

However, at the other end of the hallway, Sharon sat still in her room, in front of her room with her eyeballs filled with tears as she gently pressed an ice pack to the swollen side of her face.

Clad in a bright yellow evening gown, she sniffed and winced hard.

She still couldn't believe that this was what she had signed up for three years ago and yet, everyone thought that she had a very perfect marriage but reality was far from it.

Yet, it was too late for her to leave.

She was worried that the world would make fun of her for leaving that scoin while Cornell seemed to make her more comfortable when there were a lot of women who wanted to be in her shoes.

Cornell would definitely not make it seem like he was the one at fault.

He would make it seem like she cheated, changing the narrative of the story.

Her family were now leaving a comfortable lifestyle that Reed would never have given her if she had stayed with him.

Even if she wanted to go back to the past, it wasn't possible. Reed was long dead.

Then, the door of her plush room creaked open and almost immediately, she stood up, seated in a corner, frightened.

“Cornell, I… didn't do it. Please don't hit me again” She muttered, her hands fisted on the polished wooden table, trembling, her back turned towards the intruder.

Yet, it wasn't Cornell.

However, the person who entered lowered her head.

“Ma'am,” The maid said softly. “It’s time for you to get dressed for the evening's party. Master Cornell has….”

That moment, anger boiled in her veins as she yelled and threw a decorative vase across the door, leaving the woman stunned off guard.

“You should have knocked. Is that what my husband and I pay you for?” Sharon asked coldly.

Frightened, the maid fell flat on her face, not wanting aggression to be passed on her.

“I'm sorry, ma'am. I…”

“Get out! Everyone get out!” She yelled in frustration as she collapsed on the bed.

A minute later, she stood up, composed as she walked towards the mirror, smiling faintly at her reaction.

“This is just a phrase.” She whispered. “After all, I should be grateful that Conrell gives me the best in the world. I am the envy of everyone and Reed can't even fit into my status even if he was still alive”

Sharon continued with a nod on her face, reinforcing the lie she made herself to believe.

Then, she snapped her fingers and the maids walked inside again, this time, with a rack of clothes Cornell had bought for her from the most famous fashion designers across the world.

Truly, she was lucky aside from the flaws he was battling with just as she had always described. Sharon was sure that as soon as she bore him a child, he would definitely change for good.

Only then did she strip naked with envy while the maids did their jobs, trembling.

However, at the office, one of the men walked towards the woman who had a stern, disciplined look with her gaze sharp and observant as she monitored every move, ensuring there would not be a sign of foul play.

“Ma'am, the final test is for him to withdraw a sustainable amount of money with the card to confirm he's truly the owner”

Then, Selena looked at Reed who had no expression on his face as if he was sure of himself.

“Go ahead. It doesn't even have a set password.” He replied.

Then, Selena and the official exchanged a look of disbelief.

How did he hear that? The officer wondered. He was certain he had spoken in whispers.

Was this man some sort of a god?

No! It had to be their imagination. Selena thought, brushing the thought aside as she signalled to the man to continue.

Then, he walked towards the counter and swiped the card. A second later, a red beep with a slight blasting sound echoed.

“Ma'am, the card doesn't belong to him. The owner has declined it!”

Wait, what?

Selena thought in shock, frozen.

She couldn't believe that for a while, this person tricked him. Now, she felt like a fool in the presence of her subordinates.

Since when did she start to grow so soft despite the fact that she was born with a soft skin? She could not help but wonder as she clenched her fist.

Reed however believed that something was wrong somewhere. He knew he could easily use his powers to make everything work but he wanted them to ensure that they saw it vividly that it worked.

Just as he was about to ask them to return, another sound was heard again. Only then did the man processing the card stood up in shock, his mouth agape,

“What the hell? Ma'am, look at this!” He exclaimed, flabbergasted.

Half a minute later, Selena was about to fall to her knees when the man hurriedly caught her, supporting her weight as he looked deeply into her eyes.At that moment, a strange sensation surged through the room. Reed’s healing energy suddenly surged within him, swelling uncontrollably, on the verge of exploding.Realizing how dangerous that could be for Selena, he tried to suppress it. This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. He recalled a similar incident with one of the inmates in prison, a woman who dared to test whether he truly was the demon people claimed him to be.But she made the greatest mistake of her life when she touched him at the peak of his energy.Back then, his inner energy had been so unstable that he could barely contain it without Master Xavier’s help. The moment she touched him in the cafeteria, fire had erupted from his body. She was almost burned alive, left with a terrible scar. Only afterward did the old hag explain to Reed the importance

Realising that would make his brother stop asking him numerous questions about his source of money, Reed stood up, intending to play along as much as Selena wanted. “I'm sorry for my brother's attitude. It's obvious that he doesn't know what he's supposed to do. However, I hope you will treat him right!” Vincent said with a bright smile completely smitten by her beauty while Selena nodded with a light chuckle. To her, it felt nice that she was meeting with her boss's family. “Do not mind our house structure. I know it's not what you expect and…”“It's fine…” “I…”However, just as his brother was about to ask more questions, Reed hurriedly grabbed her hands and continued, “She would like to leave now…”“But we haven't offered her anything yet…’Yet, Reed was gone. The moment they stepped outside, he tucked his hands into his pocket and stared at her. For some reason, it felt as though she was being judged for what she had done. Not knowing whether she had offended him or not, she

“Reed, tell me the truth. I am your brother and I promise you that I will not judge you! Are you into money cultism?” Vincent exclaimed in fear. He knew the implications of being into money cultism. The end of it was not always the best and in fact, the cult society would get more than they bargained from them. “What? No! That's not true. My money is decent!” Reed continued, wondering how else to convince his brother. However, he understood his point of view. They grew up in poverty that such amount of money he promised his brother seemed too good to be true. In fact, it was a dream! No one would offer him that kind of money especially since he just got out of jail. “I want you to believe me because I will never tell lies to you!” Reed said again, his gaze softening. “That's not true. We both know that no one in our family has ever been successful. We've always been managing our resources…”“That's…” Reed said and stopped abruptly wondering how else to let his brother understand

“I have a better hair shave in my car, sir. How about I give you a nice haircut while you lean on me? That can soothe you also” Selena suggested as they walked out of the car, hoping that he would give her a positive response with a smile laced at the corner of her face. The man stared into space for a while before he nodded his head in approval. Maybe it wasn't really bad for the next day's meeting. Now that he thought about it, he wondered if the people he met there three years ago were still the same people that worked there. “Did you meet the people that used to work for my father when you went there?”However, she shook her head. “I was able to get this somehow forged. But while I was still under Cornell, I overheard him telling a friend that he made sure to send your father's employees to jail because they defyed him.”“The only people you may see are those that are scared to talk against him and the people that he employed directly, sir” “Get ready, you will come with me t

“Take your hands off me, you idiot!” The man screamed out in excruciating pain! However, Reed tightened his hands again, causing no space! On seeing that Reed had probably gotten stronger since he must have learnt a lot of skills after going to jail, he swallowed his pride and closed his eyes. “I'm sorry.. let me go!” He managed to say while Selena looked at her boss. Judging from the cold look laced on his face, it did not seem like he would let him go anytime soon. “I'm not the right person to beg!” Reed replied sharply, not letting go of his hands while the man screamed out. At this rate, he was definitely sure that his hands would either break or he would never be able to use it again. “What… Ah!” The man yelled again. To the other people, it seemed as though he held his hand like a layman. Why then was he screaming like a fool? Was that… a look of fear on the oldie's face? They all thought in bewilderment. Back in the days, the oldie used to tell a lot of stories of how he us

  • Chapter 53 - Floral spa

Floral spa! Those words were on Reed's lips as he stared at the place Selena had brought him to.It seemed local just like the one provided for them in jail. Old posters were pasted on the walls of the building that seemed like it was set for demolition. For a while, there was stunned silence while the smile on Selena's face faded. Had her boss perhaps not taken a special liking to this that he wished to turn around and leave? She thought, her mind disoriented. Only then did Reed nod. “Do you like the place, sir?”“I don't have the best response for that” He replied with a blank expression. “Tomorrow, the workers of your father's business shop want to meet you. Actually, not directly because I did not let them know that you would be coming, sir”That again impressed Reed. A while ago, he did not realize that he would be attending a meeting. “And?”Then, Selena flashed a smile as she continued, “You should meet them. Cornell have constantly abused them for a very long time and
