Ana sat on her couch, her eyes glued to the TV screen as the news anchor reported the latest death toll in the country. It was a staggering number, one that had been rising steadily over the past few weeks. Ana felt restless, her mind in a constant state of worry.

As the news segment ended, Ana turned off the TV and slumped back into the couch cushions. She ran her fingers through her hair, trying to calm her racing thoughts. But it was no use. The rate of deaths in the country was becoming too alarming, and there was nothing she could do about it.
