Chapter 68

Lucas and his companions stormed the palace as they charged in through the main door and ran as they didn't find any guards there, but they kept running to find the mage and stop this war. They ascended a flight of steps to get to the throne room. But they were met with the sight of more than 100 soldiers who were ready with their weapons as they immediately honed in on the intruders.

"Attack!" The commander shouted as the soldiers ran.

Arrows and magic flew towards them as Lucas and Aslaug charged forward and sliced the magical attacks while the others followed their lead while dodging the arrows as the enemy soldiers were charging at them at the same time.

Olivia wreathed her spear with lightning as she threw it as it sailed through the air and impaled through a line of soldiers and stabbed through the heart of a mage, before it yanked itself out and flew back towards Olivia as she grabbed it as she met the soldiers blades with her alongside the rest.

Andvaranaut had noticed how Olivia had used her spear and was somewhat surprised at what she had done, as his spear was not able to do anything of that sort.

'I suppose that is to be expected.' Andvaranaut thought to himself as he swatted the weapons of his opponents and decapitated them with a swift swing of the long weapon.

Kriemhild grit her teeth as she blocked the swords of the soldiers in front of her as they were pushing at her as she had to use the flat side of her blade to block them, but then a sword stabbed right through the chest of the soldier right in front of her and her eyes widened as the weapon stabbed right between her right shoulder and neck, drawing blood despite the armor as she cried out in pain as her strength faltered due to it.

More swords appeared from the spaces and through the soldiers as she was forced to jump back as she staggered a bit due to the wound as she grit her teeth as the enemy was relentless as they charged at her. But Aslaug appeared as she sliced the soldiers up and picked one up and threw him hard as he collided with more soldiers and caused them to fall.

Lucas was meanwhile dealing with the magic and arrows, and since he wanted to conserve as much of his magical power as he could for the fight, he started to use the enemy soldiers as a way to deal with them, as he was throwing them at the attacks while the rest of his group dealt with the soldiers.

He had of course heard the cry from Kriemhild alongside the rest and they were certainly surprised at the lengths that the soldiers were going to for taking them down, and so was relieved to see Aslaug jump to protect Kriemhild.

'I don't know if she is doing this because she is her comrade or because she genuinely cares for her, but this is good.' Lucas thought to himself as he killed a few and threw their bodies at the fireballs and stopped the attacks.

He grabbed the weapons of the fallen soldiers and threw them at the archers and mages, the weapons being too fast for them to block as they were impaled by the swords as their focus was broken by the unexpected move. But Lucas capitalised on that to kill a lot more with the swords before charging in with his weapon at the ready.

Andvaranaut joined him as the two exchanged glances before they attacked, the commander meeting with Andvaranaut as the warrior electrocuted the enemy with his lightning and then killed him with Lucas took care of the mages and archers swiftly, his body becoming even stronger as it became attuned to the runes.

'This is good. I am getting more attuned to the runes and becoming more powerful.' Lucas thought to himself as he smiled as it is something that he will surely need.

'If I have to guess then it's at perhaps 60%? I can't guess it correctly.' Lucas thought to himself as he killed the last remaining soldiers with the rest.

After that he went to check on Kriemhild while Olivia and Andvaranaut kept watch as Aslaug eyed Kriemhild as the said warrior winced as she showed her wound to her master.

"How is it?" Kriemhild asked him as she looked at the blood that was on her armor.

"It's manageable, hold on." Lucas said as he used his magic on her.

She felt his magic take effect and her wound started to heal as she felt some relief as the wound was closed and completely healed as he let out a breath of relief.

"I have managed to heal the wound, thankfully it wasn't too much so I was able to do it. If it had been more fatal or too damaging then it would've been difficult and consume more time and energy." Lucas said to her as she nodded.

"Let us end this." Andvaranaut said seriously after he was certain that Kriemhild was healed.

"Yes. Let's go." Olivia said as she looked at Lucas and nodded.

'I hope father and mother are okay. There is only a slight chance that they will be in danger but it is still there. I hope that master will stay and protect mother.' Lucas thought to himself as he steeled himself and followed the princess to the two massive doors to the throne room.

She looked at each of them and nodded before Andvaranaut barred her from pushing them open as he went forward to do it.

"Step back princess. They might ambush us. It is not a risk that you can take. Everyone be ready." Andvaranaut said seriously as he grabbed the doors and pushed.

The doors groaned slightly as it was pushed open as he used force to make the doors move as he was ready with his spear, and Andvaranaut's eyes narrowed when he saw that the throne room was empty. No soldiers or servants or ministers or nobles or anything. Even the king was absent and his eyes widened when he saw Eric sitting on the throne of his father with a smirk on his face and standing to his right is someone in a cloak which covered them fully.

"Eric." Olivia said with a glare as she growled at the prince.

"Princess Olivia, isn't it common courtesy to call the prince of a kingdom by their title?" Eric said with a smug smile on his face.

His eyes fell on Lucas as he narrowed his eyes as he smirked arrogantly.

"I am actually quite glad that you also came too, Lucas Larson. I was really eager to see you. After all, I wouldn't be able to exact my revenge if you didn't come here." Eric said to him with a grin, though the hate was evident in his voice.

"You were the ones who had initiated the war with my kingdom, and we had come to an agreement. The fact that you ignored the vow and attacked just shows how pathetic you are, Prince." Lucas said to him with a bit of bite.

Eric felt his face twitch at the words as he smirked arrogantly as his eyes glowed as he looked at the four companions of the warrior.

"Pathetic you say. We shall see what you are, when I kill you like a dog." Eric said as he shot a beam of light at him.

Lucas' eyes widened when he saw that alongside the rest as he jumped as he himself dashed to the side to dodge the attack before he had to move again to not be hit by other attacks by the prince before the attacks stopped as Lucas narrowed his eyes.

"You have to do better than that." Lucas said as he got ready to unleash the attacks he had taken inside his portal.

"Are you sure?" Eric said with confidence which confused the young man.

Then Lucas' eyes widened as he raised his blade and stopped an attack from a spear covered in lighting as his eyes widened as he saw that it is Andvaranaut who is attacking him.

He then had to maneuver the swords to block another lightning covered spear, this time from Olivia as she had attacked him as well. His senses caught movement behind her as he looked behind and saw Kriemhild dashing with her sword raised high to attack him as he got ready to open a portal.

That was until Aslaug intercepted the woman and then kicked her to the side as she rolled as he used this opportunity to push against the princess and the commander and then using wind magic flung them to either side of the throne room as they slammed into the wall.

Lucas looked at Aslaug as she looked at him as he looked at the three as they got up and his eyes widened as he saw their eyes glowing a slight yellow as he remembered the way the soldiers were acting and the glow from the prince.

'Shit.' Lucas thought to himself as he cursed the situation.
