Outside the hotel, night had already fallen.

As Valmor walked toward the military off-road vehicle, Dannell Scott had already opened the rear door and was waiting respectfully.

Once inside, Valmor lit a cigarette, gazed at the moonlight outside the window, and exhaled smoke casually.

The vehicle started moving, following the road straight into the distance.

Dannell flipped through the data on his tablet and reported.

“Commander, among those who participated in the plot against the Kross Family, aside from the main culprits—the Barbar and Stone families—the third faction involved most deeply is the Carter Family. Currently, all members of these three families have been fully tracked, and their financial status has been basically clarified. We can act at any time.”

“No rush,” Valmor said, drawing on his cigarette. “I just gave them a one-month countdown to death.”

The man froze for a moment, then nodded. “Yes!”

Taking a deep drag of his cigarette, Valmor said. “Go to Celestide Alley.”

Celestide Alley—the Kross Family once had an old residence here. It was the place where Valmor’s grandfather had built his fortune.

Outsiders had no idea this property belonged to the Kross Family.

Therefore, even after the Kross Family was wiped out and their assets seized, this old residence remained intact.

Here lay Valmor’s childhood memories.

As a child, Valmor had been rebellious, always sneaking into the old residence at night to explore and uncover secrets, often earning his parents’ scolding.

Now, ten years later, Valmor felt an urgent desire to revisit this place.

Because here was the root of the Kross Family.

The vehicle moved swiftly and soon reached its destination. Valmor got out alone and stepped into the deep alleyway.

The nearby buildings were aged, mostly built during the Falling Dragon Age, some even earlier.

Following the road paved with bluestone, Valmor arrived at the old residence. With a swift movement, he leaped over the high wall and entered.

To his surprise, the expected scene of overgrown weeds and cobwebs had not appeared. On the contrary, the place was clean and tidy, as if someone came regularly to maintain it.

“Could it be her?”

Valmor thought of someone.

A girl who had lived nearby, a child who had always had a runny nose.

When young Valmor often came to play at the old residence and had made friends of similar age who lived nearby.

Childhood friends were pure and precious.

That girl, Ravena Sylverin, was one of them.

Valmor had once given her a key to the old residence, instructing her to take care of it in his absence. It was their secret base.

Could it be that the innocent words of childhood had been kept, and Ravena Sylverin had actually followed through all these years?

Valmor smiled, feeling his thought somewhat ridiculous.

Fortunately, the lights inside the residence still worked. Under the dim yellow glow, Valmor walked to the Kross Family ancestral hall.

His gaze hardened on the ancestral tablets. Soon, new tablets would be added—belonging to the family members who had tragically died in the recent massacre.

The thought pierced Valmor’s heart like a knife. He clenched his teeth, his nails dug into his palms until blood flowed, yet he felt nothing.

Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from behind. Valmor turned around.

Under the light, a slender figure stood nervously at the entrance to the ancestral hall and asked coldly. “What are you doing? Why are you sneaking into someone else’s house in the middle of the night?”

Valmor looked at the girl before him. She was dressed simply: a white blouse and jeans, radiating the charm of a girl-next-door.

He said calmly. “This is my home.”

“You’re lying! I come here often to clean; don’t you think I’d know whose house this is? I think you’re here to steal something! I suggest you leave immediately, or I’ll call the police!”

The pure and lovely girl’s face showed disbelief, her expression serious.

Valmor looked at her cute little face and slightly upturned, rosy lips, and smiled happily. “If I’m not mistaken, your name should be Ravena Sylverin.”

“You… how do you know?”

Ravena furrowed her delicate brows, then carefully studied Valmor with her beautiful eyes.

“Because the key to this house was given to you by me on a rainy morning,” Valmor said with a smile.

“You’re… Valmor?”

Ravena was stunned, then her entire expression lit up with joy as she asked excitedly. “Yes.”

Valmor nodded. Unexpectedly, he had really met his childhood playmate Ravena, and he felt happy.

Whoosh!

Suddenly, Ravena leaped into Valmor’s arms, unable to hold back, saying. “Brother Valmor, I’ve missed you so much!”

“Heh, I’ve missed you too.”

Valmor smiled awkwardly. After all, it had been more than ten years since they last met. Looking at the pure and charming beauty in front of him, smelling the faint scent of a young woman, it was hard to associate her with the little girl from back then—the one who always had a runny nose and liked to follow him around, calling him “big brother.”

Girls really do change as they grow. He never expected Ravena to look completely different as an adult.

If it weren’t for the slight curve of her lips when she got angry earlier, which reminded Valmor of her childhood, he might not have recognized her at all.

“I was wondering why the lights here suddenly came on. So it’s really you! Perfect timing—my two friends and I were grabbing a late-night snack nearby. Let’s eat and chat together!”

Ravena came back to her senses, her delicate, innocent face blushing slightly as she took Valmor’s hand and led him out of the house.

Valmor did not refuse. Reuniting with an old friend made him happy, and he also felt nostalgic about every plant and tree around.

The familiar alleyways, the familiar air… the only difference was that in Smaora City, the Kross Family now had only him left. He carried a blood-soaked vendetta.

Following Ravena’s steps, the two left the old house and turned a corner, arriving at a barbecue restaurant.

At this hour, the restaurant was at its busiest, both inside and outside filled with diners.

She led Valmor directly to a table where a man and a woman were already seated.

The man was dressed in a suit, seemingly disgusted by the restaurant’s smoky aroma.

The woman was fairly attractive, though her makeup was thick and heavy, obscuring her true features.

Ravena cheerfully introduced them. “Valmor, this is Zilton Miller, and this is my best friend, Morrigan Vexley!”

Valmor nodded slightly in greeting. He didn’t know these two well, so naturally he didn’t say much. They, in turn, were cold toward him.

Only Ravena stayed beside him, chatting happily about childhood memories.

Zilton seemed visibly jealous of the scene, his gaze cold and sharp as it fixed on Valmor.

After a while, Zilton suddenly asked Valmor. “Brother, what line of work are you in?”

“I’m in the military,” Valmor replied calmly.

Zilton’s tone then turned mocking and sarcastic. “Heh, in the army, huh? I wonder… is your rank divisional commander or corps commander?”

The ridicule in his words was obvious.

Valmor was only about twenty-five years old—so young that anyone would think it impossible for him to hold such powerful positions.

Zilton’s question was clearly meant to humiliate him.

Valmor smiled but said nothing. There was no need to explain to such a person. If it weren’t for Ravena, someone as pathetic as this wouldn’t even be worthy of sharing a table with him, the Supreme War King.

Seeing Valmor remain silent, Zilton assumed he had been embarrassed into speechlessness, and a smug grin spread across his face.

Ravena, sensing the tense atmosphere, hurriedly tried to change the topic. “Valmor, try this grilled eggplant—it’s really good!”

But Zilton pressed on, brazen and overbearing. “Judging by your age, you must be nearing retirement. If you can’t find a good job afterward, you can come to me!”

“Going to Zilton Miller is definitely the right choice! Among our friends, he’s doing the best!” Morrigan Vexley quickly chimed in, plastering a smile as she flattered Miller.

“Heh, you flatter me. I’m just a manager at a trade company, earning over 300,000 a year, driving a car worth over 500,000, and I own a 200-plus square meter apartment in the city!”

Zilton said loudly, beaming arrogantly.

Though these accomplishments couldn’t compare to real wealth, in his circle, Zilton felt it was more than enough to boast.

Everyone could tell that his humility was fake—he was shamelessly showing off.

Especially when he talked about his wealth, his eyes occasionally darted toward Ravena’s chest.

It was clear he was very interested in her.

Morrigan’s eyes lit up when she noticed. She quickly tugged on Ravena’s arm.

“Ravena, Brother Miller is really talented and promising! If you two end up married, you’ll enjoy a lifetime of comfort! If you don’t want him, I’ll take him!”

“Morrigan Vexley, if you like him, go ahead and be with him. Don’t drag me into this!” Ravena pulled her arm away, her expression annoyed. She had no interest in Zilton Miller and was slightly irritated by Morrigan’s meddling.

Noticing Ravena’s displeasure, Zilton quickly shifted his attention to Valmor, adopting a condescending tone.

“Anyway, Brother, if you need a job, I can get you a position at our company for three thousand a month! For me, it’s just a single word.”

“Three thousand a month? Brother Miller, isn’t that a bit low?”

Morrigan immediately spoke up, understanding Zilton’s signal. He had promised her a reward if she helped him win over Ravena, so she didn’t hesitate to betray her friend.

“Well, there’s no choice. Our company is big, and we have strict standards for formal employees’ qualifications and degrees. Not just anyone can get in! I think the only positions suitable for Brother Valmor would be janitor or security guard at the gate.”

Zilton laughed loudly, pretending to be serious. Valmor smiled calmly, picking up his teacup and sipping gracefully, as if it had nothing to do with him, his emotions unshaken.

This composure only made Zilton angrier, feeling ignored.

At this point, Ravena could no longer hold back. “Valmor, don’t listen to them! I’ll ask my friends to help you find work. You won’t be wronged!”

She was already irritated by Zilton and Morrigan but didn’t want to cause a scene.

“When did I ever say I needed a job?”

Valmor set down his teacup, a playful smile on his face, and looked at Zilton Miller.
