Chapter 6: Mrs. Emma's Affair

The five people stood in front of Sean. One of the two women briefly glanced at him from head to toe, then turned to look at the fat man.

Being looked at in that way made Sean feel uncomfortable. He was offended. What's more, the person who was staring at him earlier seemed to look down on him.

Sean didn't know who they were and why the woman was treating him that way. However, they looked like people with power.

This was also reinforced by the fat man's reaction, which seemed frightened. Maybe they knew each other. That was good for Sean.

"We meet again, Mr. Hugo," said the woman who had been looking at Sean.

Sean looked at the fat man. The woman had called him by his name. It was obvious that these six people knew each other.

"We got a report about violence in a public place. At first, we didn't think it was you." The tallest man said.

The man named Hugo looked panicked. Then he said, "It's not what you think. I can explain it."

"You are very good at acting."

Another woman came in holding Hugo's wife who looked very messed up. She had several bruises, looked in pain, was confused and crying.

Hugo looked at his wife. His expression changed. There was no more anger that he showed at the poor woman.

"I didn't do that!" said Hugo.

He was about to walk towards his wife, but the tall man held him back. Hugo was annoyed by that. Then looked at Sean and pointed at the man.

"He did it! He was cheating on my wife, and I tried to save her from him." Hugo said very loudly and confidently.

The people around looked at Sean. Some looked at him with pitying eyes. Some looked at him with disgust. It was so easy for them to believe the nonsense of someone they didn't know.

Sean was stunned. He didn't know anything, but immediately felt judged by the gazes of all of them. This wasn't fair.

"I'm just a passerby," Sean quickly denied.

He gave Hugo an annoyed look. How could he say such a thing?

Sean didn't know them. Even today was the first meeting for the three of them.

How could he be accused of being his wife's affair?

This was absurd!

The five people looked at Sean. Then they looked at each other. The tallest man sighed harshly.

"Take them all to the office," said the woman who had been staring at Sean with a dismissive look. She seemed to be their leader.

Then, two men grabbed Hugo and the tallest man took Sean.

"Sir, I don't know anything. I'm not that woman's mistress."

Sean tried to struggle, but the man carrying him was very strong. It was clear that Sean's strength was not enough to fight him.

"Explain at the office," the man said.

"Why at the office? Why not here?"

Sean was still trying to break free. He didn't know what office they were referring to. Maybe a police station? But the uniforms they were wearing were not police uniforms.

This scared Sean. He didn't know where he would be taken and where he would end up.

The man who took him didn't give any answers. He looked very calm.

Sean felt his efforts were in vain. He chose to remain silent. Resigned to the circumstances that would happen to him.

When he was about to be taken by them, Sean had seen their leader chatting with a beautiful girl who was sitting in the same train carriage as him. Sean guessed, that maybe the girl had reported this incident.

Indirectly, the girl had also saved him from Hugo's rage. Because after all, fighting the fat man alone really had no possibility of winning. Unless Sean chose to run away. Like a loser.

But, who exactly were these people?

Sean felt that he had seen the pins on their lapels, but he couldn't remember where. This time his mind was completely stuck.

Arriving at their destination, Sean was immediately taken to a room separate from Hugo and his wife. He was left there alone for almost two hours.

Sean was bored, of course. He couldn't get out. Nor could he ask someone to let him out or simply come to explain what was happening. Even explain what this place was about.

Sean stared at the door in front of him. Other than thinking, that was all he could do for now. He was looking forward to someone opening that door and explaining everything.

As thirty minutes passed, Sean almost died of boredom. He should be on campus right now. Whether it was listening to a lesson, or perhaps being bullied by Arnold and his friends. Either way, he should be on campus, not in this place that he had no idea what it was.

The door suddenly opened. The man who brought him in earlier walked into the room. Sean immediately stood up and approached him. He was going to ask him for an explanation.

"Sir, who are you? And what is this place?" asked Sean.

The man asked Sean to stay calm and sit back down. Sean complied. They sat facing each other.

"First, what's your name, young man?" the man asked.

"Sean. Sean Alfie Edison." Sean answered with some hesitation.

"All right, Sean. My name is Alfred Jackson. You can just call me Mr. Alfred." The man also introduced himself.

Sean just nodded. He didn't want to repeat his question. That was his nature.

"Before I answer all your questions. I want to ask you first," Alfred said.

Sean just looked at him with a confused expression. He should be the one given an explanation as soon as possible, instead of being questioned.

"Do you know Mrs. Emma?"

Sean's brows furrowed.

Mrs. Emma?

Who was she?

As if he could read Sean's mind, Alfred continued his sentence.

"Mrs. Emma is Mr. Hugo's wife. The husband and wife who fought on the subway earlier."

"Ah, them!"

Sean remembered them, but he didn't know the name of the couple. No wonder he was confused.

"I don't know them, sir!" Sean replied with certainty. Because that's the way it was.

"Are you sure?"

Alfred looked incredulous. He gave Sean a probing look. That made Sean a little suspicious.

"Of course, sir! We even met this morning when they were fighting." Sean explained.

Alfred leaned back in the chair. He was still staring at Sean and watching every move of the man.

Sean was almost rendered helpless by Alfred's treatment. He didn't know what to do. Because he didn't understand the current situation.

"Actually, what happened, sir?"

Not wanting to get too lost in the awkwardness, Sean ventured to ask. He looked at Alfred with some hesitation.

A sigh came from Alfred's mouth. He leaned slightly towards Sean.

"Are you sure you don't know Mrs. Emma?" He repeated his question.

Sean's brow furrowed. Not understanding why Alfred was still asking a question he had already answered.

"Of course, sir! I'm sure!" replied Sean. He was starting to feel bad.

"But, Mrs. Emma says that you are her mistress and have been abusing her," Alfred said with an expressionless face.

"What?!"

Sean was shocked beyond belief. He got up from his seat and looked at Alfred in disbelief. This wasn't what he had expected.
