I do trust you

"You don't have one?" Elena asked with widened eyes. Of course I have, I wanted to say, but tomorrow will be my last and my dream won't happen.

"A councillor will be the best for you. I can sense it. You are good at giving laws and honest judgement." Liya said wiping her mouth with her hands while staring at me.

"Liya is right, you been a councillor will change the world cause we will have a honest person with that talent." Elena said.

I smiled at them for their comments. Maybe if I wasn't a miscreant, I might be chosen as a councillor. Now, I can't help but pray tomorrow nevers comes.

"Let's just believe, our talents will be better than we think." Elena said.

"Is this Elena saying something sensible?" Liya asked. Elena rolled her eyes and continued eating.

I watched my friends eating while making jest of each other, and I felt a big space in my heart. All this, all this happy moments will be over after tomorrow. After some few hours, they left leaving me alone to think about the chosen day.

I went into my room and fell on the bed with a loud sigh escaping my lips. What did we ever do to deserve this treatment? What did the freedites do? We are innocent people blessed with a special ability and then we are posed as a threat? It hurts to know my dad will be all alone in this world. They took my mom away and now me?

I closed my eyes tight but opened them when my door opened. My dad walked in holding a black bag, with a smile on his face and sat beside me.

"Aurora, there is a way." he said handing the bag to me. I sat down and collected it, looking at him quizzically, wondering what he meant by that. "A way?"

"Yes dear, you can survive through the chosen day. We can survive through it. All I need is your trust. Trust me sweetie, I promise everything will go fine."

        "What is this way?"

"You will find out tomorrow. Just get prepared cause we can't make a mistake. We have to do this properly." he said staring at me, praying I understood what he said.

I smiled at him, "Okay father. I trust you. Whatever you have in mind wouldn't be something that will go wrong."

He moved his hand across my hair affectionately, smiling broadly. He collected the black bag and left after giving me a nod. Whatever he had in mind, I pray it works. I trust my father and I know it will go well.

....

Alfredo walked out of his room scrolling down his phone with his tooth brush in the other hand. It was the chosen day and no one knows what to expect this day cause it is always unpredictable. A message popped into his phone, brightening his face as he tapped on it.

'All set, ready for the day.' It reads.

He took in a deep breath and washed up.

Minutes later. He walked out of his room dressed in a navy blue shirt and a black trouser with an ash coloured jacket, heading for Aurora's room. He knocked at the door and walked in. As he suspected, she was seating on her bed but was lost in thought. He slowly walked to her and sat down beside her. "You promised to trust me." he said quietly.

"I do trust you father. I do and I know today will go well." she sighed, "I am just sad that mom isn't here to see the most important day of my life. They took her away from me for a crime she knows nothing about." she sniffed, "Why are we tagged criminals? Is it our fault we were born with special abilities? Even a child is tagged a criminal when he knows nothing about the crime he has committed. Why are we hated? We are just freedites and it's not our fault."

Alfredo drew her to him and patted her back gently, wishing he could say something that will give her hope. Truth be told, there is nothing he can say cause the rules is the rules in Sirenna and nothing else. The freedites are hated for no other reason and are believed to be a threat. They are treated like plagues and people wish to become an OUTCAST then a freedite. Even though he says any soothing word to her, once she goes outside again, those soothing word will be a lie to her cause of what they will all say. He wished everything was different and the freedites are considered same people with every citizens in Sirenna.

"Soon sweetie, soon enough, we will get the solution we have all been praying for." he managed to say.

A knock came on the window making the father and daughter moment to be stopped short. Aurora wiped her tears and stood up.

"Go with your friends, I will be right behind you. Before the time for the test, you will be given an instruction and a pill. Just let your eyes and ears be open." he said and gave her a reassuring smile before he left.

......

I took a deep breathe that I needed that moment and arranged my cloth and hair before I went to open the window. I was dressed in a yellow gown with a blue jean jacket and my curly brown hair was packed in a bun. The two girls smiled at me immediately I opened the window.

"Ready for the big day?" Elena asked clapping her hands.

"I guess so." I replied biting my lower lips and clutching my purse tightly while staring elsewhere except their faces which they seems not to have noticed.

"Come out here let's go." Liya said.

I forced out a smile and jumped down the window. I am still a bit scared that I might do something wrong and disappoint my father. I hope I don't make a mistake today.
