CHAPTER 1: HUMILIATION
“Doctor! Please save my daughter!” Thomas Brown rushed into the hospital with Emma in his arms. Blood soaked through his shirt and dripped onto the shiny floor. Emma’s face was covered in blood, and her tiny body trembled against his chest. The sight immediately drew attention. Nurses hurried over with a stretcher. “What happened?” one of them asked. “She got hurt,” Thomas replied breathlessly. “Please help her first.” The nurses carefully moved Emma onto the stretcher and rushed toward the emergency room. Thomas followed closely behind until they reached the doors. “Dad…” Emma slowly opened her eyes. Thomas forced a smile despite the fear squeezing his chest. “It’s okay. Daddy’s here.” The emergency room doors closed with a bang, leaving him standing outside with blood still staining his hands. A familiar memory flashed through his mind. Years ago, a doctor had once bowed respectfully and addressed him as "Young Master" after he got injured during a horseback riding acciden
CHAPTER 2: BETRAYAL
A tall man in an expensive suit walked down the hallway. Scott Black. The moment Ava saw him, some of the tension on her face eased. "Scott..." Thomas's expression darkened immediately. "What are you doing here?" Before Scott could answer, Ava spoke first. "I called him." Scott stopped beside her and smiled politely. "I heard what happened to Emma. I've already spoken to the hospital director. She'll get the best treatment available." Then he pulled out a black card. "As for the hospital bills, I'll take care of everything." Thomas stepped forward at once. "My daughter doesn't need your money." Scott looked him up and down. His eyes lingered on Thomas's cheap clothes and bloodstained shirt before he spoke calmly. "Can you pay for it yourself?" The question hit harder than a punch. Thomas's jaw tightened, but no words came out. "If it wasn't for Ava," Scott continued, "I wouldn't even bother." Ava let out a tired sigh and lightly held Scott's arm. "Forget it. Let's go
CHAPTER 3: GOING BACK
His thumb hovered over the number. For a moment, Thomas didn't move. Memories rushed through his mind. His father's angry face. The huge argument that shook the entire Brown family. The suitcase he carried out of the house. And the promise he made before walking away. "I don't need the family money." "I'll make it on my own." Eleven years had passed since that day. Thomas let out a long breath and pressed call. The phone rang four times before someone answered. "Hello?" An old voice came through the speaker. Thomas's throat tightened. "David..." There was a loud crash on the other end, as if someone had jumped to their feet. "Young Master?!" The old man's voice trembled. "Young Master, is that really you?" "It's me." Thomas closed his eyes. Saying those two words felt harder than climbing the mountain. David sounded excited and emotional at the same time. "It's been eleven years! You finally contacted us!" Thomas leaned against a nearby rock. "I'm in some trouble
CHAPTER 4: DISAPPOINTMENT
A quiet voice echoed from a large office far away. On the laptop screen, an old man sat silently for a few seconds before leaning back in his chair. He rubbed his forehead and let out a long sigh. “Alright,” he said at last. “Go ahead with the plan.” David finally relaxed. “Sir, should we send people to protect the young master?” The old man shook his head. “No.” His voice was calm but firm. “If we interfere too much, he’ll only push us away. Thomas isn’t a child anymore. Let him handle things his own way.” “Yes, sir.” The call ended. Within minutes, confidential emails were sent throughout Velox Group. Branch presidents. Regional directors. Senior executives. Everyone received the same message. Thomas Brown, sole heir of the Brown family, has officially taken over Velox Group. ___At Lake City Hospital ___ Thomas hurried toward Emma’s ward. His clothes were still dirty from the trip. The scratches on his arms hadn’t been treated, and his legs ached from hours of climb
CHAPTER 5: GETTING HIS REVENGE
Later that night, Ava returned to the hospital room. She stopped at the door for a moment. Thomas was sitting quietly beside Emma's bed. The scratches on his arms were still there, and the exhaustion on his face was impossible to miss. For a brief second, her expression softened. Then it was gone. "In a few days, it's my grandfather's seventy-fifth birthday," she said. Thomas didn't look up. "The whole family will be there." She hesitated before continuing. "You should talk to my dad." Thomas finally glanced at her. Ava lowered her eyes. "It's better than living like this." The room fell silent except for the steady beeping of the monitor beside Emma's bed. "For Emma's sake..." Ava said quietly. "Can you do it?" Thomas let out a faint laugh. Ask Adam Bailey for help? The same man who had looked him in the eye years ago and said, "You think someone with nothing can marry into my family?" "I'll never accept you and anything that comes from you." Even after all these ye
CHAPTER 6: EDWARD WRIGHT AND GRAY BROOKS
“Mr. Lawson!” Bryce immediately ran over with a flattering smile. “You’re finally here!” King quickly followed behind him like a loyal dog. “Sir,” King said quickly, “please don’t misunderstand. This shabby guy has been causing trouble here. We were just trying to remove him before you arrived.” He pointed directly at Thomas. “We were worried he’d ruin your impression of the school.” The man ignored him completely. Instead… He walked straight toward Thomas. Step by step. Then suddenly… He bowed respectfully. “Sir, I’m sorry for being late.” The entire place went silent. Everyone froze. King’s eyes widened so much they almost popped out. Bryce’s smile disappeared instantly. Even the teachers behind them looked stunned. Sir? Thomas? King forced out a stiff laugh. “T-there must be a mistake…” “There’s no way he could be… Before he finished speaking, the man frowned impatiently. “What mistake?” Then he looked at King coldly, and who are you?” King froze. The man co
CHAPTER 7: AVA
Edward punched him across the face. Gray staggered backward. His eyes widened. "Are you insane?!" Edward threw the photographs at him. "They speak for themselves!" The pictures were scattered across the ground. Gray looked down. His expression froze. Every photo showed him with a woman. A woman who happened to be Edward's girlfriend. For a moment, nobody spoke. Then Gray forced a laugh. "Come on." "It's just a woman." Edward nearly exploded. "Just a woman?!" His face turned red. "I treated you like a brother!" Gray raised his hands. "It was a mistake!" Edward wasn't listening anymore. He rushed forward and punched him again. Gray finally lost his temper. The next second, the two boys were rolling on the ground throwing punches at each other. Teachers quickly backed away. Students gathered around to watch. The scene was pure chaos. Then Thomas's voice rang out. Cold. Calm. Clear. "Edward Wright." "Gray Brooks." The two boys stopped fighting and looked up. Thomas
CHAPTER 8: THE HOTEL
Ava looked at Thomas like he had just said something ridiculous. "He's not some random old man," she said. "You should show some respect. People like him could help us get out of poverty." Thomas felt a little frustrated but kept it to himself. While she spoke, Ava pulled out a small mirror and touched up her makeup. Thomas watched quietly. She had dressed up more than usual today. "Where are you going?" he asked. Ava snapped the mirror shut. "Why do you care?" Then she crossed her arms. "What are you doing here anyway? Let me guess. Something went wrong at work again?" Thomas said nothing. Ava looked beautiful today, but the more he looked at her, the more uneasy he felt. "Who are you meeting?" he asked. Ava let out a cold laugh. "I'm doing this because of you." Thomas frowned. "If you weren't such a failure, I wouldn't have to strike a deal with some creepy old man." The words hit him like a punch. He stepped forward and grabbed her shoulder. "Don't go." His voice was low
CHAPTER 9: SOMETHING IS WRONG
Thomas watched Ava walk back to the table and couldn't help smirking. "So she really doesn't believe me." He shook his head. "It's just one business deal. How difficult can it be?" Pulling out his phone, he called David. The call connected almost immediately. "Young Master, have you finally decided to return and take over the family business?" David asked hopefully. Thomas rubbed his forehead. "Not this again." David laughed awkwardly. "Then what do you need?" "I want to know what project Ava is working on." There was a brief pause. Then David replied, "She's negotiating a contract worth one hundred and eighty thousand dollars with the Holland company." Thomas frowned slightly. "The Holland family?" "Yes. They're one of the companies in our business network." David sounded casual, as if discussing the weather. "Should I buy the company or bring their executives over for a meeting?" Thomas almost choked. "David." "Yes, Young Master?" "Buying a company isn't the answer t
CHAPTER 10: CALLIGRAPHY
After Murphy exposed his intentions, Peter forced out an awkward laugh. "Come on, we're both men here. Those kinds of thoughts are normal." Unfortunately for him, Murphy wasn't in the mood for excuses. "Listen carefully." His voice turned cold. "I don't care what you're thinking. "But if you mess up Mrs. Ava's contract, don't bother coming back to work tomorrow." Peter's smile vanished. Before he could explain himself, the call ended. He stared at his phone. For the first time that night, he felt uneasy. Murphy wasn't someone who lost his temper easily. If he was this angry, then someone bigger had already gotten involved. And there was only one person Murphy feared that much. David Torres. The most powerful businessman in Lake City. Peter swallowed hard. Just who exactly was Ava? Without wasting another second, he hurried after her. "Mrs. Ava! Wait!" Ava stopped and turned around immediately. The moment she saw him rushing over, her guard went up. "What do you want now?"
