Chapter 11: The scammer
Even before Fred turned, he already recognized the voice, and the familiar sound made his heart burn. Then he turned, his expression reformed instantly, forming something ugly the unlimited shape of anger and repulsion. His fist curled tight at the side, fingers digging crescents into his palm. A young woman, face glammed up, her lips red with lipgloss like a vampire that'd just sucked, she blood stood in front, her lips curled slightly to the side in a mocking expression. She donned a crimson designer gown, and a limited edition heel sat beneath her heel. A gold necklace sat on her neck like a relic, catching the roof light and throwing it across the room like a rainbow. Claire. Beside her, arms linked with hers, was a man dressed in a custom made suit that immediately announced its worth without even trying. His presence reeked of arrogance without effort. Alexander Ridge. A silver watch glistened on his wrist that probably cost more than Fred's entire life all together. "Yo

Kane looked at Claire, his expression firm and unreadable. "Everything you took from him, you're going to return it." He said with a calm voice that was punctuated with finality. "even something as small as a pen as long as it belongs to him." Claire looked him up and down, a sharp mocking smirk still tugged at the corner of her lips. "And Who are you? His new benefactor?" She tilted her head slightly. "Or a Co-beggar?" The receptionist, seeing that the situation was steering on, chipped in with her usual professional voice. "Please, gentlemen and ladies, this restaurant has certain policies that require strict compliance and you're breaking one of them. Verbal assaults and attempts to physical exchange are highly prohibited in this premise." Alexander spun to her, his eyes darkening with fury. "Are you asking my woman to shut up?" He barked, glaring at the receptionist. "Have you forgotten who i am? My father is the general Manager of this entire building. You know what that
Chapter 13: The imperial kitchen iii
Hearing the name 'Everest', Fred started to panic. He'd heard about the monopolistic conglomerate. They sat at the Apex of the Cooporate ecosystem, controlling the major percentage of the world's affairs. The entire world knew about them, and Everest doesn't need to make an announcement before the world listens. If Claire's words were right— that Alexander's family has connections with the Everest family, then going against him will be a foolish decision. Compared to the might of the Everest conglomerate, he's just a bug. And Alexander Ridge would crush him even without their influence. After he lost everything to Claire's scam scheme, he got kicked to the street. His rent expired too. From that moment, he swore that whenever he saw Claire, he'll get her arrested, but with Alexander beside her, she has an upper hand. The law doesn't obey the rich. It bent for them. Fred had learnt that in the past. Kane on the other hand was silent. "So, my family has decided to welcome me wi
Chapter 14: Imperial kitchen
3RD FLOOR OF THE IMPERIAL KITCHEN The interior was Luxury and performance through silence, the kind of occupied silence meant for people who knew the value of it. Uniformed staff workers gilded between private booths, balancing silver trays on their palm as they deliver the job they were paid for. The air inside smelled the mix of aroma of expensive cuisines and cologne from high end clientele. Conversations happened in hushed tones. Alexander crossed the room along with Claire. They took the booth at the centre of the room and sat down. Alexander was still fuming from the earlier scene at the lobby that got him embarrassed. "You looked worked up, Alexander," Claire said, setting down her bag on the table. "You already called the security to deal with them. We don't need to bother about those riffraff. They'll ruin our date." Alexander exhaled sharply, forcing him anger away, deciding to await the video of Kane and Fred beaten and pleading on their knees for mercy. "Waiter!" H
Chapter 15: Alexander's plan
Alexander hadn't seen them walk in. His face pressed down to his phone, scrolling through it and watching p**n while waiting for the staff attendant to arrive with their order. He kept nodding his head to whatever Claire was saying about the latest expensive necklace she'd love to get. His focus was half on the screen, half on the explicit video on his screen and barely catching Claire's conversation. "You're not listening to me, Babe." Claire's voice shifted to subtle anger, noticing he wasn't listening all along. Her expression twisted slightly into a frown. Alexander looked away from the phone and forced a smile. "Oh, you were talking about the necklace right? How much is it?" But Claire didn't answer. Her eyes fixed at the far end of the restaurant, slightly wide in shock seeing Kane and Fred sit down across the room, speaking to a waitress. Her expression tightened even more. "How the heck did those two get into the restaurant!" She whispered, shock flashing in her eyes. "
Chapter 16: $7000
Kane and Fred sat across from each other, making their order. The young innocent female staff member walked with a professional smile. "Have you placed your orders yet, Sirs?" She asked politely. Kane nodded at Fred to go ahead with the order. "Let's see what they have here." He picked up the tab with a light smile. He hadn't scrolled more than a two seconds when the smile on his face dropped, replaced with a look of absolute shock, something on the screen had terrified him. "Damn!" He gasped, his eyes wide. Kane narrowed his eyes to him, his brow knitted. "Is there a problem?" Fred swallowed hard and leaned over the table, his voice dropping quiet to a hush. "Dude, there is no fucking way we're going to eat in this place! A single plate of rice and chicken is fucking $1000!! It cost more than my entire world! Let's get the hell out of here!" He whispered. In the past, Kane won't even dare to come into places like the imperial kitchen, he would have even been shaking at th
Chapter 17: Alexander's scheme
Alexander rose to his feet, smirking wickedly as he excused himself from the table and followed the staff attendant to the hallway. He cornered her. "Hey, what order do those two rags placed?" The female attendant stopped, clearly flustered, stammered. "Why...why are you making that inquiry? I.." "Listen carefully if you still want to keep your job in this place." Alexander closed the gap with her, his voice dropping to a threatening edge. "My father manages this entire place. If you refuse my instructions, I'm going to make sure you lose your job and I'll also make sure no one else in this city will employ you ever again!" The young innocent staff, newly employed, was flustered by the threat. She gulped hard, her lips trembling. "Those two guys over there, you'll fill up their table with plenty of food worth $15,000." He started, assured Kane and Fred won't be about to afford such an amount of money. "You'll tell them the restaurant is running a limited-time offer for new c
Chapter 18: I'll get everything back
The order arrived in a silver tray. Expensive dishes lidded beneath a wicked intention, plotted by Alexander that Fred and Kane were not aware about. The young staff employee set down the tray to the table, forcing herself to remain calm. She was aware that across the room at the centre, Alexander was watching her every move, his earlier threat looping in her head. She just got this job. Losing it quickly will make everything fall apart for her. She has a mother in the hospital she's working to pay for her surgery. Refusing to obey means she'll lose her job and losing her job means the hope of saving her mother deplete to Zero. She walked away and returned with two more trays, filling the table with the arrangement. Kane frowned slightly seeing that the amount of food the waitress brought was more than what they ordered earlier. "This food is more than what we ordered. Is this perhaps a mistake?" Fred who had noticed the size but didn't care to ask because his stomach was alre
Chapter 19: Alexander's scheme ii
"And how are you going to do that?" Fred asked him, almost with a tone of impossibility. "You're an ex-banker, Kane. Not a cop. Neither an attorney." "Just tell me the estimate of everything and let me handle the rest." Kane pressed on calmly. Fred exhaled sharply. "Alright, i'll tell you simply because I want to tell you. Claire is not someone who looks like she should be messed with now, with that mutt always around her." "I can't forget everything I lost. It estimates up to $50,000." Fred simply said, picked up his glass and sipped it. "Plus emotional damage, embezzlement of funds, break of trust which led to mental health depletion." Fred coughed out the wine, the red liquid splashed across the table. People around turned to look at him, but his own eyes were on Kane, staring at him in disbelief mixed with shock. "What the heck?! Are you kidding right now?" He gushed. "You've got cash to get a lawyer? You're really serious about this?" Kane simply smiled, a faint, almost
Chapter 20: Alexander's scheme iii
The male staff employee hesitated, but he knew Alexander, the son of the General Manager of Imperial kitchen. Even though he's not among the management of the Restaurant, he still respected him because of his father's influence. "Sir, this does not follow the.." "Get the fucking Securities you dumbass or I'll call my father on you. He manages this place!" The staff tensed, grabbing the service telephone. "Securities. Come into the hall now!" Kane didn't speak. He understood everything now. The unnerved female staff, the way she tried to stay professional under whatever heat she was, it was all Alexander's plan all along. "We didn't sneak in!" Fred snapped back, anger simmering inside. "How could you just conclude on things just like that?!" Alexander leaned forward slightly, a mocking smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "Then pay the bills. $15k! Pay it. Oh, you cant..you see why people like you don't belong here." His finger snapped to Fred's chest. "You both belong to the
