Chapter 11:
“To new beginnings,” the others chimed raising their glasses in unison. Old Lady Chen nudged Alyssa with her chin towards Orion. “This is your chance, Alyssa. Do not embarrass me.” “Come Alyssa,” Aurelius straightens up and gives Alyssa a hand. “I will introduce you personally.” Alyssa nodded with a glint of confidence in her eyes. They walked towards Orion but someone’s question stopped everyone’s movement in the crowd. “President Zhao, before we proceed, there is something many of us here are curious about…” Orion looked over from the stage where he stood to a fat, bellied man in the crowd with eyes filled with questioning as he stared back at him. “What question is that?” Orion asked, his eyes narrowing. He recognized him as the cousin of one of the well respected families in the city. Harold Feng. “Well, there have been rumors about the surviving heir residing in the Zhao’s estate. Why isn’t he here with you? Or it has all been a lie to make your family look good
Chapter 12:
The banquet hall fell into silence, the only sound was the slow music playing. Dozens of confused gazes shifted between the trembling old man and the direction he was staring at. Broken pieces of glass glittered across the floor while wine slowly spread between them. “Mr. Gao? Are you alright?” “What happened?” Mr. Gao was one of the most influential figures in Kairen city. He was acquainted with one of the powerful families in the city—the Mori family. They knew that Gao was not the kind of man to lose composure over anything. Whatever he had seen tonight must have shaken him deeply. Seeing him on the floor alarmed the guests and as they rushed towards him with concern, Gao was unable to speak. He looked like he had seen a ghost. His eyes remained fixed on Riven. “Mr. Gao, who is alive?” Someone asked, finally bringing him back from the depths of his thoughts. Gao blinked twice and coughed slightly. Realizing that so many eyes were on him, he stood up, looking aw
Chapter 13:
Elias gives a conceited smile and nods. “Of course, Young Master Wang.” As Elias walks away from the men, Alyssa follows behind him, her eyes flaming with anger. She draws her brother back with a hand. “Are you seriously going to bring Odessa to him?” Elias looked at her, annoyed as he shakes her off. “Young Master Wang isn’t interested in you but still, family comes first. Do you know what this could do to our family? Once we get the Young Master Wang to endorse our family then we will get benefits and even respect from others.” “Elias! You’re so selfish!” Alyssa breathed out in anger. “You don’t even care about me at all! You’re choosing her over your own sister?” Elias rolled his eyes and let out a groan. “Don’t be so stupid, Alyssa. Look at this way, Young Master Wang only finds Odessa interesting because she’s married. Men like him enjoy the chase.” He allowed his words sink into her before he continued. “And when Young Master Wang realizes that she won’t leave t
Chapter 14:
For a brief moment, no one spoke. The proud smiles on Old Lady Chen and Aurelius’ faces instantly disappeared like they had been smacked off their faces. Even the crowd who had gathered around their table to offer congratulations exchanged uncertain glances. Aurelius blinked twice. “What did you just say?” Elias swallowed hard. “Young Master Wang wishes to meet cousin Odessa.” A pin drop silence followed immediately. Aurelius glanced at Alyssa. “Is this true?” Alyssa nodded. “Yes father and besides this can be a good thing—” Old Lady Chen frowned deeply, cutting her off. “You silly child, how can this be a good thing?! Are you both sure you heard correctly?” “Yes grandma,” Elias responded. “The young master specifically pointed at Odessa.” Aurelius let out a dry laugh to hide his embarrassment. Just few minutes ago, he was bragging to everyone that his daughter was the favoured of the heir of the Wang family and now it turns out to be Odessa! “Well…” he beg
Chapter 15:
Elias laughed, his body shook as he stared at Riven in disbelief, even Odessa looked sideways at him. “You’re really insane. Do you even know who Young Master Wang is?” Riven merely gave a light shrug, relaxing into his seat. “I don’t. Enlighten me.” “You foolish man, how would you even have the privilege of knowing about Young Master Wang.” Elias’ jaw twitched in disdain. “Young Master Wang is from one of the most reputable families in the city with a net worth of over 10 million dollars! A fool like you doesn’t understand how people of Young Master Wang’s status behave.” Riven’s brow shot up instantly with an inquisitive look on his face. “So you are saying you are okay with being looked down upon and have decided to act as an ass licker?” “You..!” That instantly sent Elias off. His face went red with rage as some of the guests who had heard Riven’s comment chuckled lightly. Old Lady Chen instantly snapped. “Enough! Odessa, if you don’t stand up this minute,
Chapter 16:
Those words stuck the Chen family like it was a blessing from Buddha. Old Lady Chen’s eyes lighten up with greed and delight. “Odessa,” she called out sharply. “Did you hear what Young Master Wang said? You must treat him well in the future!” Elias immediately chirped in. “Exactly. Young Master Wang has come over here personally to meet you, you should be thanking him.” Odessa frowned at her family’s behavior. “What should I be thankful to him for?” Old Lady’s Chen expression turned sour. “What do you mean?! Do you think women from ordinary families can even dream of standing before Young Master Wang? Yet he lowered himself to come here personally.” Aurelius nodded in agreement. “Your grandmother is right. Don’t be foolish, Odessa.” He stepped forward, paving a way for Jake to sit at that table, gesturing at the chair he had set up for him, he said with a patronising smile. “Young Master Wang, please don’t misunderstand. Odessa is still young and doesn’t understand wha
Chapter 17:
Elias folded his arms with a sneer. “Some people don’t really know what’s good for them.” Jake suddenly chuckled. “Interesting. No woman has ever rejected me before.” At that moment, he turned towards Riven who was watching the events unfold like a bored movie. “You seem to be enjoying the show. But tell me do you feel accomplished dimming the light of a bright woman by free loading off her?” Jake questioned with a raised brow. “Men like you should be ashamed of themselves. No job, no life, no future, nothing. Just useless. Your family’s name is being dragged in the mud by you!” Riven’s face instantly darkened. The air around him instantly plummeted to a few degrees. His hands gripped the table cloth as he tried to school his expression into calmness. He had wanted to leave Jake to continue his shenanigans but since he had the nerve to bring his family into this, Jake must pay! Getting no response, Jake frowned. His patience had wore thin. “I will give you $100,000
Chapter 18:
Jake instantly freezed. A line of sweat broke out on his forehead and rolled down his chin. The entire hall went silent as everyone looked at each other with confusion. Jake was the first one to recover. He laughed nervously. “What nonsense are you talking about?” Riven furrowed a brow. “Nonsense?” He asked calmly. “Then perhaps the Economic Crimes Unit will agree with you.” Under the gazes of everyone, Jake’s face instantly turned white as sheets. “How dare you slander Young Master Wang?!” One of the heirs immediately shouted, walking towards Riven about to strike him. “Are you tired of living?” Riven caught his hand in mid-air stunning everyone. He looked straight at him, earning a frightened look. The deadly gaze in Riven’s eyes made a wet dent on the man’s trousers. “Let go of me you punk!” He yelled, frantically trying to free his hand away from Riven’s grip. With a snap and fling, Riven sent the man flying a few meters away. Hitting his back against a wall, he f
Chapter 19:
“Did you hear what he just said?” “He accused Jake Wang of not being the Wang heir!” “What nonsense?!” “He is indeed mentally unstable.” “Do we look like kids? Impersonating someone as important as the Wang heir was the same as courting death!” Jack’s face had gone ghostly pale. His jaw tightened as he stared fiercely down at Riven. “How dare you?” He breathed out through gritted teeth. “If I’m not the Wang’s heir, are you the Wang’s heir?!” “If he’s the Wang’s heir, then I’m the president’s son!” One of the guest said and a few of the others bursted into laughter. “Riven, if you want to dig your pit, dig it for only yourself. Don’t drag the Chen family in with you!” Aurelius warned. Odessa glanced over at Riven, a light frown over her face. She didn’t scold him over the Yang heir because she saw that he had provoked him first but now, saying that the Wang heir wasn’t Jake without proof was simply just fanning the flames. “Riven, stop speaking without proof.” “
Chapter 20:
As the Yang eldest son pushed through the crowd, the once living banquet fell into complete silence. Behind him walked half a dozen men dressed in black suits with intimidating auras. Their expressions were cold, faint scars decorated their faces. The guests instinctively stepped aside as the men walked passed with heavy steps. Trailing behind them was Julian Yang. His expensive suit was stained with dust and blood. His lips were split, and every movement made him grimace in pain. Gone was the arrogance he had displayed moments ago. Now he looked utterly miserable. The moment he saw his elder brother, tears nearly welled up in his eyes. “Brother!” He stumbled forward before pointing a trembling finger toward the Chen family’s table. “You have to avenge me! That bastard crippled me! My back… my back is ruined!” Kyle’s expression darkened. He grabbed Julian’s shoulder and roughly turned him around, examining the bruises covering his body. His jaw slowly clenched. Everybody h
